A coupled dynamics model was constructed for a series diesel–electric hybrid tractor under three typical working conditions: plowing, rotary tillage, and transportation. Using DP to solve for the globally optimal SOC change trajectory under each operating condition of the tractor as the SOC constraint for MPC, we designed an energy management strategy based on DP-MPC. Finally, a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test platform was built using components such as Matlab/Simulink, NI-Veristand, PowerCal, HIL test cabinet, and vehicle controller. The designed energy management strategy was then tested using the HIL test platform. The test results show that, compared with the energy management strategy based on power following, the DP-MPC-based energy management strategy reduces fuel consumption by approximately 7.97%, 13.06%, and 11.03%, respectively, under the three operating conditions of plowing, rotary tillage, and transportation. This achieves fuel-saving performances of approximately 91.34%, 94.87%, and 96.69% compared to global dynamic programming. The test results verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy. This research can provide an important reference for the design of energy management strategies for hybrid tractors.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":3.0,"publicationDate":"2024-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141927228","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As one of the key renewable energy sources, biomass plays an important role in the new energy framework. The aim of this research was to estimate the mass of woody husks and to check the influence of morphological features of selected hazelnut varieties on the energy parameters of waste biomass in the form of husk. Technical and elemental analyses were carried out on the husks of four varieties: ‘Kataloński’, ‘Olbrzymi z Halle’, ‘Olga’, and ‘Webba Cenny’, taking into account their weight, moisture content, heat of combustion (HHV and LHV), and pollutant emission factors (CO, CO2, NOx, SO2, Dust). Research has shown significant differences between the varieties in terms of their energy potential and pollutant emissions. The varieties ‘Olbrzymi z Halle’ and ‘Olga’ were found to have higher calorific values, making them more energy efficient. On the other hand, the varieties ‘Kataloński’ and ‘Webba Cenny’ showed lower dust and NOx emissions, which is beneficial from an environmental point of view. The analysis of the chemical and morphological composition of hazelnut husks allowed for the identification of relationships between morphological features and energy value and emission indicators. The conclusions from the conducted research suggest that hazelnut husks have significant potential as an energy raw material. The selection of an appropriate variety for energy crops should take into account both the calorific value and emission indicators, which will allow for the optimization of production processes and the promotion of sustainable development.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":3.0,"publicationDate":"2024-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141926493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this reason, both research and industry are constantly investigating new technologies able to make the usage of battery electric vehicles(BEV) as accessible and usable as traditional internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEV). One of the most limiting issues concerns the short range of electric vehicles, which complicates their use for long distances, such as for highway travels. A promising solution seems to be the “charge-while-driving” approach, by exploiting the inductive dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT) technology. Nevertheless, such systems show different issues, first of all, high investment and maintenance costs. Furthermore, it is not clear how extensive a potential dynamic wireless charging infrastructure needs to be to make a real advantage for electric vehicle drivers. As a consequence, the aim of this paper is to introduce a new methodology to estimate the number and length of wireless charging sections necessary to allow the maximum number of electric vehicles to travel a specific highway without the need to stop for a recharge at a service area. Specifically, the methodology is based on a algorithm that, starting by real traffic data, simulates vehicle flows and defines the basic layout of the wireless charging infrastructure. This simulator can provide a decision support tool for highway road operators.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":3.0,"publicationDate":"2024-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141925697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research focuses on optimising RES allocation using particle swarm optimisation (PSO), a data-driven approach that adapts to real-time operational conditions. Traditional energy management systems often struggle with the inherent variability of RESs, leading to suboptimal energy distribution and increased emissions. Therefore, this study proposes a PSO-based renewable energy allocation strategy specifically designed for oil refineries. It considers factors like the levelised cost of energy, geographical location, and available technology. The methodology involves formulating the optimisation problem, developing a PSO model, and implementing it in a simulated oil refinery environment. The results demonstrate significant convergence of the PSO algorithm, leading to an optimal configuration for integrating RESs and achieving cost reductions and sustainability goals. The optimisation result of ZAR 4,457,527.00 achieved through iterations is much better than the result of ZAR 4,829,638.88 acquired using linear programming as the baseline model. The mean cost, indicating consistent performance, has remained at its original value of ZAR 4,457,527.00, highlighting the convergence. The key findings include the average distance measurement decreasing from 4.2 to 3.4, indicating particle convergence; the swarm diameter decreasing from 4.7 to 3.8, showing swarm concentration on promising solutions; the average velocity decreasing from 7.8 to 4.25, demonstrating refined particle movement; and the optimum cost function achieved at ZAR 4,457,527 with zero standard deviation, highlighting stability and optimal solution identification. This research offers a valuable solution for oil refineries seeking to integrate RESs effectively, contributing to South Africa’s transition to a sustainable energy future.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":3.0,"publicationDate":"2024-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141929096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To increase reliability, traditional individual MGs can be replaced by networked microgrids (NMGs), which are more dependable. However, when it comes to operation and control, they also pose challenges for cyber security and communication reliability. Denial of service (DoS) is a common danger to DC microgrids with advanced controllers that rely on active information exchanges and has been recorded as the most frequent cause of cyber incidents. It can disrupt data transmission, leading to ineffective control and system instability. This paper proposes digital twin (DT) technology as an integrated solution, with new, advanced analytics technology using machine learning and artificial intelligence to provide simulation capabilities to predict and estimate future states. By twinning the cyber-physical dynamics of NMGs using data-driven models, DoS attacks targeting cyber-layer agents will be detected and mitigated. A long short-term memory (LSTM) model data-driven digital twin approach for DoS attack detection and mitigation is implemented, tested, and evaluated.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":3.0,"publicationDate":"2024-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141926351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The finite element transient simulation takes a long time and cannot meet the real-time requirements of a digital twin. According to the nonlinear characteristics of the core and the timing characteristics of the magnetic field, this paper proposes a fast calculation method of the spatial magnetic field of the transformer, considering the nonlinear characteristics of the core. Firstly, based on the geometric and electrical parameters of the single-phase double-winding test transformer, the corresponding finite element simulation model is built. Secondly, the key parameters of the finite element model are parametrically scanned to obtain the nonlinear working condition data set of the test transformer. Finally, a deep learning network integrating a convolutional neural network (CNN) and a long short-term memory network (LSTM) is built to train the mapping relationship between winding voltage, current, and the spatial magnetic field so as to realize the rapid calculation of the transformer magnetic field. The results show that the calculation time of the deep learning model is greatly shortened compared with the finite element model, and the model calculation results are consistent with the experimental measurement results.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":3.0,"publicationDate":"2024-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141928004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These uncertainties directly impact the economic benefits of VPPs. To address the uncertainties in the economic optimization of VPPs, scenario analysis is employed to transform the uncertainties of wind turbines (WTs), photovoltaic (PV) system outputs, and electricity prices into deterministic problems. The objective is to maximize the VPP’s profits in day-ahead and intra-day markets (real-time balancing market) by constructing an economic optimization decision model based on two-stage stochastic programming. Gas turbines and electric vehicles (EVs) are scheduled and traded in the day-ahead market, while flexible energy storage systems (ESS) are deployed in the real-time balancing market. Based on simulation analysis, under the uncertainty of WTs and PV system outputs, as well as electricity prices, the proposed model demonstrates that orderly charging of EVs in the day-ahead stage can increase the revenue of the VPP by 6.1%. Additionally, since the ESS can adjust the deviations in day-ahead bid output during the intra-day stage, the day-ahead bidding strategy becomes more proactive, resulting in an additional 3.1% increase in the VPP revenue. Overall, this model can enhance the total revenue of the VPP by 9.2%.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":3.0,"publicationDate":"2024-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141926763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The extended fiscal instability and environmental imbalance resulting from the energy crisis, primarily caused by rising energy prices owing to geopolitical upheavals (the Russian invasion in Ukraine), have been compounded by rising inflation. The main research objective of this paper is the analysis and evaluation of the effects of the current energy crisis on the Greek economy through the perspective of energy poverty, energy dependence, and climate change. Greece has been negatively impacted by the significant rise in energy costs. In 2022, the percentage of the general population that faced difficulties in paying energy bills exceeded the European average, reaching the level of 34.1%, while almost 19% of the population could not keep their homes sufficiently warm. Additionally, in 2022, Greece was one of the countries most energy-dependent on Russia. Greece achieved most of its targets regarding climate change, with the most representative example being the reduction of GHG emissions by 42% from 2000 to 2022. However, this reduction did not come from the successful green transformation of the Greek economy, but instead was due to the reduction in overall energy consumption that came from the prolonged economic crisis, combined with the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, the majority of Greek buildings are still not considered to be energy efficient, while the transportation industry continues to rely heavily on oil, coal, and natural gas.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":3.0,"publicationDate":"2024-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141925565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes an identifying method for weak lines of novel power systems with intermittent energy resources and DC lines integration, which aims to provide decision making for control strategies of novel power systems and prevent system blackouts. First, from the perspective of power system safety and stability, a series of risk indicators for the risk assessment of vulnerable lines is proposed. Then, lines in the system are tripped one by one. The calculation method for the proposed risk indicators is introduced. The impact of each line outage on system safety and stability can be fairly evaluated by these proposed risk indicators. On this basis, each risk assessment indicator is weighted to obtain a comprehensive risk assessment indicator, and then the risk caused by each line outage on the system can be quantified efficiently. Finally, the test system of a modified IEEE-39 bus system with wind farms and DC lines integration is used to verify the applicability of the proposed method, and the effectiveness of the proposed method is also demonstrated by comparing with existing methods.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":3.0,"publicationDate":"2024-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141926191","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
