(Fabaceae) species from studies reported over the past 5-7 years. The aerial and underground parts of 34 Astragalus species contain triterpene saponins, flavonoids, polysacharides, tannins, free organic acids, higher fatty acids, vitamins, trace elements, and other constituents. Among the Astragalus species, A. membranaceus (Fisch.) Bunge is the best studied in terms of component composition and biological activity. Anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, antioxidant, anticancer, cardioprotective, and hepathoprotective activities have been experimentally detected in total bioactive substances, fractions, and individual compounds extracted from various parts of A. membranaceus and A. membranaceus var. mongholicus in vitro and in vivo. The composition and biological effects of other Astragalus species are still poorly understood. Pharmacopoeial plant raw materials of 10 species were evaluated: roots of Taraxacum officinale F.H. Wigg and Arctium lappa L.; herb of Polygonum aviculare L., Artemisia absinthium L., Leonurus quinquelobatus Gilib., and Achillea millefolium L.; leaves of Urtica dioica L. and Plantago major L.; and flowers of Tanacetum vulgare L. and Tilia cordata Mill. Plant raw materials were collected near roads and railways of various types in the periods specified in regulatory documents. The total ash content in plant material was used to determine the minimum allowable distances from various roads and railways for collecting plant material. The minimum allowable distance from heavy-traffic motorways was recommended to be 210 m in the forest zone, 240 m in the forest-steppe zone, and 380 m in the steppe zone. Three (control, buffer, and impact) zones of the pollution gradient were identified based on the contents of main polluting elements (S, Ni, and Cu) in the forest litter. A significant weakening of pine stands was observed in the impact zone and attributed to the combined effect of long-term anthropogenic pollution of the 1970s and unfavorable weather events of the mid-1980s. As the emission decreased from 1988 to 2018, the radial increment of P. sylvestris was observed to increase significantly (by up to 44%) in the impact zone and to remain much the same in the control and buffer zones. More recently, the radial increment of trees in the impact zone reached and even exceeded the values observed in the control zone, although the trees examined were relatively old. Adipose tissue samples were collected from two Caspian seals (Pusa caspica Gmelin, 1788) found dead on the Caspian Sea shore in 2020. Organochlorine pesticides, primarily DDT and HCH, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were major pollutants found in the Caspian seals. The distribution of metabolites indicated the absence of recent pesticide use. The PCB content was relatively high, but still at the lower limit of the range of values determined previously, as was also the case with pesticides. Chlordanes, polychlorinated naphthalenes, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers were detected in minor quantities and were therefore not considered to be major pollutants of the Caspian seal. The pollutant levels were below a threshold at which a distinct effect on seal health can be expected. (Oleaceae): S. emodi Wall., S. josikaea Jacg., S. komarowii Schneid., S. reticulata (Blume) H. Hara ssp. amurensis (Rupr.) P. S. Green et M. C. Chang, S. sweginzowii Koehne et Lingelsh, and S. vulgaris L. Plants were from the collection of the South Ural Botanical Garden-Institute. Contents were established for major groups of biologically active substances (BASs): flavonoids, hydroxycinnamic acids, tannins, and organic acids. The highest contents of all BAS groups were observed in S. komarowii flowers: flavonoids, 4.25 ± 0.21%; hydroxycinnamic acids, 6.13 ± 0.29%; tannins, 9.3 ± 0.5%; ascorbic acid, 0.468 ± 0.022%; and organic acids, 10.7 ± 0.5%. The contents were somewhat lower in S. emodi and S. sweginzowii and minimum in S. josikaea. Small cankers or canker parts were placed in a humid chamber. Fungi were identified by morphological features. Sorocybe resinae (Fr.) Fr. and Penicillium glaucoalbidum (Desm.) Houbraken & Samson were the most common. The S. resinae occurrence was 75.9 ± 7.9%. The fungus developed in the surface layers of dried resin, but was not detected in the absence of resin production. The fungus S. resinae was therefore assumed to be a nearly ubiquitous component of the mycobiota of resinous cankers on spruce trunks in Leningrad Oblast. The fungus P. glaucoalbidum has only been observed as a saprotroph in Russia earlier. Weak pathogenic properties were detected in the species in experiments; i.e., P. glaucoalbidum grew on live bark tissues in a humid chamber. Based on its high occurrence (41.4 ± 9.1%), P. glaucoalbidum was identified as a regular component of the microbiota in spruce necrotic canker. Pure cultures of P. glaucoalbidum and Oidiodendron sp. were obtained. To test the respective species as possible causative agents of trunk canker, trunks of 20 spruce trees were inoculated with the fungal cultures in a forest stand. The cultures stimulated resin secretion without causing necrosis to spread beyond the inflicted wound. Eggs of the nematode Dioctophyme renale (Goeze, 1782), which infests the kidneys of carnivores, were found in coprolites of dogs (Canis familiaris L., 1758) for the first time in Northwestern Siberia. The nematode species has not been detected in the modern helminth fauna of the region. The giant kidney worm could have entered the region with dogs brought by Russian migrants from European Russia during the development of Siberia. Preoperative stress increases the risk of myocardial injury after noncardiac surgery (MINS). The mechanisms of MINS are poorly understood. Lack of physical activity and the development of weakness and fatigue are consequences of many noncardiac surgery types. The relationship between surgery and changes in the morphofunctional state of muscles in the postoperative period is still unclear now. The study showed for the first time that metabolic and hormonal changes caused by preoperative stress + surgery or surgery alone underlie MINC in the postoperative period in C57BL/6 mice. Minor increases in triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index were for the first time identified as indicative of ischemic/hypoxic damage to the myocardium and skeletal muscles.
