It is transmitted through contact with skin lesions, respiratory droplets, body fluids, and sexual contact. The diverse presentation of the disease leads to misdiagnosis. Thus, clinicians should have a high index of suspicion, mainly with diseases with skin lesions. The most vulnerable group to developing this disease are individuals with risky sexual relationships, sexually transmitted infections, or human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS). To date, only one case of coinfection with the monkeypox virus, syphilis, and HIV has been reported; however, no cases have been revealed in the Mexican territory. Herein we describe an unusual case of syphilis-monkeypox coinfection in an immunocompromised patient; despite his coinfection, he had a favorable prognosis. Furthermore, we attach allusive pictures of the natural evolution of dermatological lesions.
","PeriodicalId":11049,"journal":{"name":"Dermatology Reports","volume":"15 2","pages":"9591"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2023-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pub/pmc/oa_pdf/a6/45/dr-15-2-9591.PMC10312107.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"10105088","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, it is unusual for a young person to have a TC and it is extremely rare for a TC to be ossified. In the literature, only 8 cases of TCs with concomitant ossification have been described. We report the case of a 22-year-old female who presented with a scalp nodule and was treated via surgical excision of the lesion. The pathology examination of the surgical specimen revealed a lesion consisting of a multilayered squamous epithelium of slightly eosinophilic maturing keratinocytes. There was no granular layer, whereas the core of the lesion was occupied by mature bone tissue with calcium deposits. The definite diagnosis of the pathology report was ossifying TC. It is clinically characterized by slightly hyperkeratotic or verrucous grayish-brown papules coalescing to form a reticulated pattern peripherally with confluent plaques centrally. Sites of predilection are the neck, interscapular, intermammary regions, and abdomen. CRP commonly arises during puberty or in early adulthood. She was hospitalized with a 3-week recurrent bleeding on the abdominal skin. Physical examination revealed no signs of injuries on the skin. Hematological and biochemical test results and coagulation profiles were all within normal ranges. No abnormal findings were observed on abdominal ultrasonography and computed tomography. Numerous erythrocytes were observed during the microscopic examination of fluid samples from the abdominal skin. It was speculated that hematohidrosis was precipitated by separation anxiety disorder, because the onset and remission of symptoms correlated with the beginning and end of the local quarantine, respectively. Our case report and brief literature review highlight the transient and benign nature of hematohidrosis. Although specific guidelines are not well established, hematohidrosis is a transient phenomenon that is treatable with pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical interventions, and its overall prognosis is favorable.
","PeriodicalId":11049,"journal":{"name":"Dermatology Reports","volume":"15 2","pages":"9615"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2023-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pub/pmc/oa_pdf/8f/13/dr-15-2-9615.PMC10312110.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"10122331","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While several mutations in FGFR2 cause classic Crouzon syndrome, Crouzon syndrome with acanthosis nigricans results from a point mutation in the fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 gene (FGFR3). We report the case of an 8-year-old Vietnamese girl diagnosed with Crouzon syndrome with acanthosis nigricans, showing typical clinical features, including a crouzonoid face and dark plaques on the skin. Genetic testing showed a missense variation in FGFR3, associated with Crouzon syndrome with acanthosis nigricans. Following diagnosis, we treated acanthosis nigricans with 10% urea cream. Smartphone dermoscopy is an emerging technology that when paired with store-and-forward systems optimizes virtual care by improving triage, diagnostic accuracy, and overall workflow. However, with the introduction of new technology, it is important to ensure equitable access to all populations. Preliminary data from our cohort study revealed decreased engagement with smartphone dermoscopy and store-and-forward technology amongst the geriatric population with only 17.4% of participants who initiated virtual visits being at least 65 years of age. Of those, only 56.25% successfully submitted images through the store-and-forward system. Further investigations are required to address the disparity in e-health literacy in this age demographic.","PeriodicalId":11049,"journal":{"name":"Dermatology Reports","volume":"15 2","pages":"9612"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2023-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pub/pmc/oa_pdf/cb/61/dr-15-2-9612.PMC10327655.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"9811938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The patients may delay physical examinations due to anxiety or discomfort from the location of the lesion. In terms of therapy options, the surgical approach is not always the preferred one, but it is the one that could lead to a definitive solution to the problem. A limited number of studies do not exclude that atypical nevi of genital type could be considered as melanoma precursors. Single case reports have identified atypical genital nevi of the labia majora as a risk factor for genital melanoma development. Lesions that occupy a larger area than the labia majora and extend into the areas around them are particularly problematic, because the result of a single biopsy could be misleading. Therefore, careful physical examinations are mandatory. Mechanical irritation in the genital area, and in particular in the labia majora region, is an additional reason for choosing the surgical-reconstructive therapeutic option. We present a 13-year-old female with a progressive kissing divided nevus, located in the area of the vulva and labia majora, extending to the mucosa. A biopsy was taken in order to rule out malignancy. Immunohistochemistry was performed with specific melanocyte markers S-100, HMB-45 and SOX confirming the benign origin of the lesion. A diagnosis of atypical melanocytic nevus of genital type was made. For prevention a surgical excision was advised but later on declined by the patient's parents. Further close observation of the lesion was recommended.
","PeriodicalId":11049,"journal":{"name":"Dermatology Reports","volume":"15 2","pages":"9667"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2023-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pub/pmc/oa_pdf/45/7d/dr-15-2-9667.PMC10327662.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"9811942","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
