Patients in the traditional therapy group received standard health education, whereas those in the experimental group participated in three months of this therapy. Clinical and nutritional indicators, including blood biomarkers and Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice questionnaire scores, were recorded for both groups before and after the treatment. Post-treatment, the group receiving internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy exhibited higher blood calcium levels, increased upper arm circumference, and reduced levels of potassium and phosphorus. They also showed comparatively lower scores in Nutritional Risk Screening 2000 and Malnutrition Inflammation, along with higher Visual Analog Scale scores (P < 0.05). The internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy group exhibited higher albumin and prealbumin levels, reduced transferrin, total cholesterol, creatinine, and urea levels, and modified quantitative subjective global assessment scores than the traditional therapy group (P < 0.05). They also scored higher on the Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice questionnaire (P < 0.05). These results indicate that internetbased cognitive behavioral therapy can improve the nutritional status, Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice questionnaire scores, and overall quality of life in maintenance hemodialysis patients, highlighting its potential benefit in patient outcomes.","PeriodicalId":10976,"journal":{"name":"Current Topics in Nutraceutical Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2024-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140459208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Surgical removal of intracranial hematomas can save the lives of patients with cerebral hemorrhage. However, surgery-induced stress injuries can severely affect the perioperative nutritional status of patients, leading to an adverse prognosis. This study aimed to examine the effect of preventive care on patients with cerebral hemorrhage to improve patient safety during treatment. We found that patients in the experimental group who received preventive care had substantially improved postoperative rehabilitation quality, a decreased incidence of postoperative adverse reactions, and a shortened hospital stay than those in the control group who received routine care. Furthermore, preventive care reduced the risk of malnutrition and considerably improved the nutritional status of patients with CH. Preventive care can effectively improve the postoperative safety of patients with CH, shorten their rehabilitation cycle, promote their body function recovery, and enhance their nutritional status, which is essential in clinical practice.","PeriodicalId":10976,"journal":{"name":"Current Topics in Nutraceutical Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2024-02-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140461411","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease, the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway is closely associated with neuroinflammation, apoptosis, synaptic plasticity, amyloid beta deposition, and aberrant tau phosphorylation. Natural products have a high potential for therapeutic modulation of the P38 MAPK pathway. We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Medline, and Web of Science, utilizing the keywords “Alzheimer’s disease,” “neurodegenerative diseases,” “MAPK,” and “P38MAPK” and “natural products” to identify natural products that can be used to treat Alzheimer’s disease by modulating the P38MAPK pathway. Various natural products were found to act on p38 MAPK, including saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, acids, terpenoids, and glycosides. All these active agents can treat Alzheimer’s disease through their interactions with p38 MAPK. This study aimed to examine the use of natural products to intervene in Alzheimer’s disease and regulate the p38 MAPK pathway to provide potential ideas for further drug research and development.","PeriodicalId":10976,"journal":{"name":"Current Topics in Nutraceutical Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2024-01-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140501087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 120 patients undergoing dialysis were equally allocated to the Standard Care Group and Intervention Group. The recipients of individualized dietary counseling had their plans modified monthly in accordance with their nutritional needs, personal preferences, and clinical circumstances. Nutritional adherence, biochemical parameters, clinical outcomes, and quality of life were evaluated and compared between groups. At baseline, both groups exhibited comparable demographic characteristics. Compared to baseline values, the Intervention Group showed substantial enhancements in albumin, hemoglobin, potassium, and phosphorus levels after six months (P < 0.05). The Intervention Group had a considerably higher rate of adherence to dietary recommendations than the Standard Care Group (92% vs. 75%, P < 0.01). Nutritional intake analyses revealed a noteworthy enhancement in energy and protein consumption, while sodium, potassium, and phosphorus intake decreased (P < 0.05). The results of the quality-of-life evaluation demonstrated notable improvements in physical, emotional, social, and overall health perception scores (P < 0.05). Thus, personalized dietary interventions substantially improve the nutritional status, biochemical profile, and overall quality of life of patients undergoing dialysis.","PeriodicalId":10976,"journal":{"name":"Current Topics in Nutraceutical Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2024-01-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140502840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This meta-analysis aimed to determine the effects of nutritional interventions on serum C-reactive protein levels in patients with periodontitis. We searched the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases according to PRISMA guidelines, including articles published until December 2023. The articles were selected according to predetermined inclusion criteria, and data extraction and quality assessment were conducted utilizing the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale and standardized forms. Seven out of 438 identified articles met the inclusion criteria. We found that patients with periodontitis had a statistically significant correlation between nutritional interventions and decreased serum C-reactive protein levels (p < 0.05). The interventions included specified dietary modifications and dietary supplements, including vitamin C and folic acid. Diverse patient demographics and intervention categories were observed across the identified articles. Thus, this meta-analysis confirmed that nutritional interventions can reduce serum C-reactive protein levels in patients with periodontitis; therefore, dietary modification is essential in managing the systemic inflammation associated with periodontal disease.","PeriodicalId":10976,"journal":{"name":"Current Topics in Nutraceutical Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2024-01-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140509015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We included 530 participants randomly assigned to an intervention group with a Mediterranean-style diet and a control group with generic dietary guidelines. The incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus was the primary outcome, whereas changes in fasting plasma glucose, lipid profiles, and body composition were the secondary outcomes. After 24 months, the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus was significantly lower among participants in the intervention group than those in the control group (P < 0.05). Fasting glucose, hemoglobin A1c, total cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein levels were decreased (P < 0.05), and high-density lipoprotein levels were increased among participants in the intervention group than in those in the control group (P < 0.05). Also, body weight, blood pressure, and body mass index, major negative predictors of fasting glucose levels, were significantly decreased in participants in the intervention group than in those in the control group (P < 0.05), irrespective of other covariates. Dietary intervention substantially reduced the risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus and improved glycemic control, lipid profiles, and overall metabolic health.","PeriodicalId":10976,"journal":{"name":"Current Topics in Nutraceutical Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2024-01-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140509979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 82 liver cancer patients admitted to our hospital were randomly allocated into two groups: a control group receiving routine care and an observation group receiving the aforementioned combined intervention under the PERMA model. The study duration spanned three months, after which the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Mini Nutritional Assessment-Short Form, and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire scores were compared between the groups. Post-intervention findings revealed that the observation group exhibited significantly higher scores in hospital anxiety and depression assessments compared to the control group. Additionally, the observation group demonstrated a significantly higher proportion of patients with good nutritional status, as per the Mini Nutritional Assessment-Short Form. Furthermore, improvements were observed across all dimensions of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire, with the observation group showing significantly higher scores in comparison to the control group. Herein, we compared the efficacy of amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium and azithromycin sequential therapies for bronchopneumonia. We found that amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium had improved clinical efficacy and accelerated rehabilitation in patients with bronchopneumonia. Azithromycin demonstrated superior efficacy in inhibiting inflammation, enhancing nutritional status, and regulating trace element levels. The therapeutic safety profile of the two sequential therapies was broadly consistent. In the treatment of bronchopneumonia, azithromycin and amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium have their advantages and disadvantages.
