A lumped heat capacity method (LHCM) is used to model, but the governing equations for the fuel cell stack, radiator, cooling water, and air are conjugated. The model predicts the transient temperatures of the fuel cell stack, radiator, cooling water, and air for stepwise power changes. Parametric studies show that the increase in the heat transfer coefficient of the cooling water at the radiator is more effective to cool the fuel cell than that at the fuel cell. The increase of the air flow rate at the radiator decreases the operating temperature of the system. This simple model could be a useful tool to decide the dimension of each component of the system for required power.","PeriodicalId":103784,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Forum on Strategic Technology","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115223216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose an adaptive selection of skin models from two different ones in RGB and ratio rgb space to overcome the illumination problem caused by automatic focus of camera. With the proposed solution, we receive more reasonable skin detection for different human races. We modify local binary pattern (LBP) by adding a set of spatial templates. This LBP considers both principal local shapes and spatial textures of facial components. Human face is represented by a histogram of LBP coefficients. Moreover, the grayscale image of human face is changed to discrete cosine transform (DCT) coefficients used in embedded hidden Markov models (eHMMs). A modified LBP (mLBP) histogram matching and eHMMs are composed to hierarchical classifier to determine whether skin regions are faces or not. The results of our system on different cameras are presented and discussed. We compare the performance capability of our system with other systems using separately eHMMs or LBP histogram matching. The proposed system can work well to detect attitudes of faces like frontal, rotated and profile faces.","PeriodicalId":103784,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Forum on Strategic Technology","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126825720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is now well known that the crude oil supply will run out in about forty years and the earth needs a different type of energy resource that can last indefinitely. 'Hydrogen era' is expected to begin in the 2020's, and the biggest market for hydrogen fuel cells will certainly be the auto industry. However, the cost of the fuel cell vehicle or the individual parts is far from being realistic from a mass production standpoint. Every major auto maker is trying to reduce the cost and enhance manufacturability, and we are about to see the promising outcome. Hyundai-Kia Motors has the largest fuel cell research center in Korea and it has developed several different types of FCVs since its first launch of Santa Fe FCV in 2000. In this paper, we present the basic principles of fuel cells and the history of fuel cell vehicles. In addition, the status of FCV development at Hyundai-Kia Motors are introduced. Verification programs sponsored by Korean and American governments are presented to show how actively we are collaborating with other fuel cell-related companies in order to make FCVs commercially available.","PeriodicalId":103784,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Forum on Strategic Technology","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122315804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reducerfree EPSS represents a mechatronic unit, which based on permanent magnet synchronous motor with built-in torque sensor. The control algorithm is rather simple and provides additional torque on output of the steering column proportionally to the torque which driver applies to a steering wheel. But the complexity consists in formation of a forward signal for motor's control to reduce the steering activity required of the driver and to save a realistic feeling of actual motoring conditions by compensating of design features of the mechatronic unit. We addressed this problem in two ways: by developing methods to compensate for the motor's inertia and elastic torque and by developing torque's measuring system. In particular, the control algorithm offered by authors improves self return of steering wheel, and the developed elements of the measuring system of EPSS simplify realization of control's algorithm and promote safety of drive.","PeriodicalId":103784,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Forum on Strategic Technology","volume":"222 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114159985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After some time the amount of photos exceeds the critical mass manageable without specialized tools. Most people create an intuitive structure for storing their personal image library. They create folders for images that are taken in the same context, for example \"Photos from the IFOST 2006 Forum\", however this does not enable the user to find a photo which shows a specific person, object or even expresses a specific idea or feeling when needed. In this paper a new approach to metadata production is presented. For this purpose, a new interactive tool for multimedia content acquisition and classification has been developed. The user can decompose a given multimedia content into units and easily annotate each until adding basic information such as place, time, locate, etc. as well classification information such as even type, relationship type, etc. according to the MPEG-7 standard. At the end of this production, the tool automatically produces a semantic description of the overall set of the annotated units. The new idea proposed in this work is to combine the intrinsic semantics of each annotated unit with implicit semantic information derived from the structural description, hence reducing the needs to perform complex signal processing operations on the content.","PeriodicalId":103784,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Forum on Strategic Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128521251","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on pass-by vehicle noises, the WT-NN sound quality evaluation model was developed by combining the techniques of wavelet analysis and neural network (NN) classification. A wavelet-based, 21-point model for vehicle noise feature extraction was established. Verification shows that the trained WT-NN models are accurate and effective for sound quality evaluation of nonstationary vehicle noises. Due to its outstanding time-frequency characteristics and intelligent functions, the WT-NN model is proved more advanced than the in-situ sound quality evaluation models in common use. The proposed WT-NN model can be applied to both stationary and nonstationary signals and even to transient ones. The WT-NN technique is suggested not only for the prediction, classification, and comparison of the sound quality of pass-by vehicle noises, but also for applications in other sound-related engineering fields, in place of conventional psychoacoustical models.","PeriodicalId":103784,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Forum on Strategic Technology","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129002742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method is a position compensation using laser sensor and vision cameras. Because the laser sensor is cross type sensor which can scan a horizontal and vertical line, it is efficient way to detect a feature of vehicle and winding shape of vehicle's body. For position compensation of 3-Dimensional axis, we applied block interpolation method. For selecting feature point, pattern matching method is used and 3-D position is selected by Euclidean distance mapping between 462 feature values and evaluated feature point. In order to evaluate the proposed algorithm, experiments are performed in real industrial vehicle assembly line. As the result of the field test, it shows that robot's working point can be displayed 3-D points. These points are used to diagnosis error of position and reselecting working point.","PeriodicalId":103784,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Forum on Strategic Technology","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126567690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The traditional method to control a dual-motor is using two separate processors developed for power circuits. In this paper, a proposed control scheme using only one controller to drive a dual-inverter supplying voltage directly to two separate motors is described. The field oriented control (FOC) technique is investigated to control motors in the proposed control configuration. The proposed scheme is absolutely useful and necessary for vehicle applications because its outstanding contribution of reduced number of controllers helps to save space in a car and decreases overall costs in automobile mass production. All control algorithms to drive dual-motor system are implemented by software program only implemented by a digital signal processor (DSP) controller without any additional processor or hardware prototype. Simplicity, flexibility, and possibility of dual three-phase inverter for the two-motor system control in vehicle applications are the major considerations in this study.","PeriodicalId":103784,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Forum on Strategic Technology","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133995241","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
