Wie bei Hölderlin erscheint in ihrem Werk der Dichter als ein wandernder Priester, der die Hoffnung und den Glauben an das Absolute predigt. Hölderlins schmerzliche Liebes-geschichte mit Susette Gontard und seine dadurch erweckte Umnachtung faszi-nieren sie und nähren ihre tragische Auffassung der Liebe. Durch die Lektüre seines Werks und den Briefwechsel, den Zwetajewa mit Rilke führt, fungiert dieser als Mittler zwischen beiden Dichtern. Alle drei eint die gemeinsame Vorliebe für die elegische Form als Ausdrucksmittel der Tragik. Mit Hölderlin teilt Zwetajewa schließlich eine von der Romantik distanzierte Auffassung des Absoluten: Nicht die Dichtung entspricht einem Absoluten, sondern das Göttliche. Die Dichtung wird demnach, anders als in der Romantik, als ein bloßes Mittel zur Preisung des göttlichen Absoluten betrachtet.","PeriodicalId":101944,"journal":{"name":"Literary Translation, Reception, and Transfer","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125590121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wolf’s Cassandra (Kassandra: Erzählung, 1983) and Boullosa’s Cleopatra Dismounts (De un salto descabalga la reina, 2000) construct alternative histories for these two legendary figures in order to critique their heroines’ and their own societies, and to envision alternative models of subjectivity and forms of relating for their readers. Both writers incorporate postmodern literary techniques of self-reflexive narration, intertextual references, and parody to foreground the fictionality of their texts and question literary and historical representation. At the same time, Wolf and Boullosa exhibit a utopian impulse by creating within their texts a feminist space beyond patriarchal culture through which their protagonists imagine possibilities that have not yet been realized in the existing world. This paper explores how two authors from different national, political, and linguistic contexts develop a critical-utopian view of “othered” women in order to address gendered violence, war, and injustice in and beyond their own historical moments.","PeriodicalId":101944,"journal":{"name":"Literary Translation, Reception, and Transfer","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125761612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To really learn a foreign language, it is often agreed that immersion programs are far better than taking a course within the four walls of a classroom. Yet this is not an option that everyone can enjoy. The goal of this article is to encourage colleagues to create with me an interdisciplinary platform offering a virtual collaborative learning environment based on social constructivist approaches, in order to facilitate interaction and co-operation among students and instructors on a global scale. Furthermore, I wish to interrogate the extent to which such a project constitutes a utopian linguistic and cultural translation. The platform would have the objective of facilitating virtual encounters that could be beneficial for everyone: are we creating a virtual “ non-place ” (utopia) that is actually a new form of place? This virtual collaborative environment could also be interdisciplinary and intercultural. Because of its inherent multicultural interactions, finally, a global virtual environment could make learners identify areas of agreement and disagreement in order to seek con-sensus and cross-cultural understanding as both sets of participants are “ translated ” into a virtual topos.","PeriodicalId":101944,"journal":{"name":"Literary Translation, Reception, and Transfer","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125212288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kasdaglis, according to literary criticism, revives and redefines “objective” prose by exploiting the doctrines of the naturalist school at the level of both narrative choices and ideological objectives. Therefore, negative characters, social problems, and bleak conditions are dissected and studied in his works, which make reference in the process to Zola’s experimental method. In The Thirst (1970), Kasdaglis studies the sexual extravagance of Eleni, a young nurse who exhibits psychopathological sexual behaviour – following French naturalist patterns that tended to analyse borderline characters – so as to demonstrate the dependence of human nature on sexual instinct and biological origins. Kasdaglis, like Zola in Nana, presents a naturalistic female portrait which is characterized by apathy, cynicism, cravings of the flesh, and lack of emotional love. The composition of the novel models the poetics of naturalism in order to highlight the fact that human nature is predetermined by natural laws and social conventions. Kasdaglis manages to form a contemporary naturalistic portrait which makes direct reference to the French model, and demonstrates the significant impact of the French novel on European and modern Greek prose.","PeriodicalId":101944,"journal":{"name":"Literary Translation, Reception, and Transfer","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124129815","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
