In this retrospective study, we determined the frequency of CD in patients with RA using IgA anti-endomysial antibodies (EmA) and tried to explain this association. Indirect immunofluorescence on human umbilical cord was used to detect EmA in 215 patients with seropositive RA collected over a 4-year-period. Two thousand and five hundred healthy blood donors (HBD) served as control group. Among the 215 patients with RA, 12 (9 females) were found positive for EmA while only 7 were positive for EmA in control group, EmA are significantly more frequent in RA patients than in HBD (5.58% vs. 0.28%, p < 10-6; 95% CI [8.21-54.01]; odds ratio: 21.05). In RA patients, the frequency of EmA was not statistically different between males and females. The frequency of EmA was significantly higher in female patients than in healthy females (5.32% vs. 0.40%, p < 10-3). Patients with RA can be considered as a high-risk group for CD based on the high frequency of EmA positivity observed in our study.</p>","PeriodicalId":93870,"journal":{"name":"Annales de biologie clinique","volume":"81 6","pages":"569-575"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139934646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This prospective study measured SLC22A17 mRNA levels in lung cancer and paracancer tissues using quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The levels of SLC22A17 mRNA in plasma samples from healthy control subjects and patients with lung cancer were also measured. The association between SLC22A17 mRNA levels in plasma and clinicopathological characteristics was determined. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to determine the diagnostic value of SLC22A17 in plasma. Survival curve analysis was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method. SLC22A17 mRNA levels were significantly higher in lung cancer samples than in the paired paracancerous tissues. Plasma SLC22A17 mRNA levels were also significantly higher in patients with lung cancer than in healthy controls. The COX analysis indicated that there was a significant correlation between elevated plasma SLC22A17 mRNA levels and lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis, and TNM stage. Furthermore, the ROC curve analysis demonstrated that plasma SLC22A17 had high diagnostic value. High plasma SLC22A17 mRNA levels are associated with a significantly shorter survival time. SLC22A17 is upregulated in lung cancer and may serve as a novel diagnostic and prognostic biomarker.</p>","PeriodicalId":93870,"journal":{"name":"Annales de biologie clinique","volume":"81 6","pages":"602-609"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139934647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 120 patients with high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia were included in this study from January 2013 to January 2018. All patients underwent prostate biopsies. Among them, 60 patients were assigned to the observation group and received a daily dosage of 5 mg finasteride for 60 months, while the remaining 60 patients were assigned to the control group and did not receive finasteride. PSA levels were measured every six months, and imaging scans were conducted throughout the five-year study period. Additional biopsies were performed if PSA levels exceeded 10 ng/mL or imaging suggested the presence of prostate cancer. Statistical analysis was applied to the collected data. In total, 25 cases of prostate cancer were identified in this study. Of these cases, 7 patients belonged to the observation group, whereas the remaining 18 patients were from the control group. The observation group exhibited significantly lower levels of total serum PSA (p < 0.001) and Gleason scores (p < 0.001) compared to the control group. Our study, which involved 120 participants, demonstrated that finasteride effectively reduces serum PSA levels and mitigates the severity of prostate cancer. A prospective study aimed to evaluate the diversity of yeast strains associated with VVC in Tebessa city (northeastern Algeria) and investigate their susceptibility patterns. Over two months, yeasts were isolated on chromogenic medium from twenty-nine non-pregnant women with symptomatic VVC. The isolates were characterized with MALDI-TOF MS and antifungal susceptibility testing was performed for nine antifungal drugs using SensititreTM YeastOneTM YO10. Twenty-nine non-duplicate yeasts were recovered and the mass spectrometry profiles showed reliable scores of which four genera and five different species were identified. Candida albicans accounted for 65.5 % (n = 19) of the total number of isolates, followed by C. glabrata with 20.7% (n = 6). For the remaining non-albicans Candida (NCA) species, Kluyveromyces marxianus with 6.9% (n = 2), Pichia kudriavzevii and Saccharomyces cerevisiae with one isolate each. The antifungal susceptibilities showed wild type MICs of C. albicans to amphotericin B, azoles and echinocandins. In addition, four C. albicans isolates were resistant to flucytosine. For C. glabrata isolates, 100% non-WT phenotype was found for both posaconazole and itraconazole.
