The project will consist of three separate studies. The first study, which has just been completed, comprised of a series of interviews with individuals who had experience of Missing Person search. The interviews were conducted using the Critical Decision Method (CDM) and the transcripts were later analysed using Emergent Thematic Analysis. Critical Decisions and global themes were identified, and the relative importance of global themes across critical decisions was estimated using a cross referencing tool. Initial findings highlight the differences between search and rescue experts and adult carers, and the decision to \"Call the Police\" was identified as being particularly problematic. A second study is about to commence, which builds upon the findings of the CDM study and presents participants with an interactive scenario similar to those reported in the first study..","PeriodicalId":93284,"journal":{"name":"ECCE ... : proceedings of the ... The current PhD is thus dedicated to exploring the potential of Internet of Things (IoT) for supporting healthier office work and break routines. An \"enchanted object\" approach that utilizes the \"glanceability\" and \"gesturability\" of everyday artefacts is proposed as a potential solution to tackle the challenge of user disturbance and scarcity of cognitive resources in this persuasion context. The vision is to eventually have a collection of digitally \"enchanted\" office objects that harness ubiquitous sensing and context-aware algorithms to subtly prompt different types of breaks at opportune moments throughout workdays, as a mechanism to break up prolonged sitting; in addition, behavioural data captured from embedded and wearable sensors will be visualized to facilitate self-reflection and habit development. An initial qualitative study is being conducted to unpack challenges and opportunities in reducing prolonged sitting in office work through the lens of both behaviour change and Human Computer Interaction, which has led to preliminary insights to share and discuss with the audience.","PeriodicalId":93284,"journal":{"name":"ECCE ... : proceedings of the ... Design driven research benefits from an understanding of how people experience autobiographical remembering. We present a phenomenological study in which twenty-two adults were interviewed using the repertory grid technique; we aimed at soliciting personal constructs that characterize people's remembered experiences. Inductive coding revealed that 77,8% of identified constructs could be reliably coded in five categories referring to contentment, confidence/unease, social interactions, reflection, and intensity. These results align with earlier classifications of personal constructs and models of human emotion. The categorization derived from this study provides an empirically founded characterization of the design space of technologies for supporting remembering. We discuss its potential value as a tool for evaluating interactive systems in relation to personal and social memory talk, and outline future improvements.","PeriodicalId":93284,"journal":{"name":"ECCE ... : proceedings of the ... As the work of paramedics, nurses and physicians is not only physically but also mentally challenging, the promise of hands-free interaction alone will not ensure efficient and safe usage. Rather, various aspects of cognitive ergonomics have to be carefully considered. Best practices for designing wearable interactive systems have to be evaluated. Based on the results of different user-centered system design projects and studies with members of Emergency Medical Services, nurses and clinical physicians, we will discuss optical head-mounted displays with respect to human-computer interaction. Interaction design as well as lessons learned concerning tasks and workflows will be summarized. Transmodal consistency is introduced as a general design principle for digital technologies supporting multiple input and output modalities like touch, gestures and speech.","PeriodicalId":93284,"journal":{"name":"ECCE ... : proceedings of the ... Could the search for media become a natural part of the storytelling experience? This study investigates spatial interactions with objects as a means to encode information for retrieval while being embedded in the story flow. An experiment is carried out in which participants watch a short video and re-tell the story using cards each of which shows a character or object occurring in the video. Participants arrange the cards when telling the story. It is analyzed what information interactions with cards carry and how this information relates to the language of storytelling. Most participants align interactions with objects with the sentences of the story while some arrange the cards corresponding to the video scene. Spatial interactions with objects can carry information on their own or complemented by language.","PeriodicalId":93284,"journal":{"name":"ECCE ... : proceedings of the ... Perceived utility, perceived ease of use, and trust in the system all play major roles in uptake and acceptance. In order to facilitate user uptake of a smartphone application designed to improve traveler experience in airports, we must first assess baseline attitudes and information needs of potential users. This paper outlines the distribution of an online survey which explored this. Key findings were that people are more trusting of information from \"official\" sources, or sources in which they did not need to rely on their own interpretation of information. It was also found that the use of navigation aids may need to be supplemented with additional information. The paper provides an example of how identifying key need areas at early stages of development may help with uptake at later stages.","PeriodicalId":93284,"journal":{"name":"ECCE ... : proceedings of the ...
