It was shown that, in the synthesized Cu(II) and Co(II) complexes with the LH4 ligand, coordination occurs according to the Schiff base type, while in the Ni(II) complex the oxygen atom of the amide (hydrazide) group in the enol form and the nitrogen atom of the azomethine group take part in the coordination groups. Based on the data of IR, electron spectroscopy, EPR, thermogravimetry and elemental analysis of the obtained complexes, the octahedral coordination of Cu(II) ions and the binuclear structure of the complexes are assumed. It was established that all obtained compounds have high bactericidal and fungicidal activity. After, the activities of the studied ligand and its metal complexes against various cancer proteins including breast, colon, and lung cancer were compared.","PeriodicalId":93246,"journal":{"name":"Advances in neurology and neuroscience","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135491554","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These procedures have also been known to increase perfusion to the ipsilateral hemisphere and improve function; however, it is unknown if these procedures can improve function by increasing perfusion to the contralateral hemisphere. Longitudinal language assessment and neuroimaging data from this case study offers evidence that supports stenting of the contralateral common carotid artery and blood pressure elevation to improve collateral blood flow and, in turn, language performance.","PeriodicalId":93246,"journal":{"name":"Advances in neurology and neuroscience","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135053258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In-hospital case fatality accounts for the majority of deaths. Multiple risk factors for in-hospital mortality have been described in the stroke population and their recognition could reduce stroke-related death. Aims To describe a single center experience of in-hospital acute ischemic stroke case fatality and its risk factors. Methodology Single center, retrospective, cross-sectional study between august 2018 and august 2019. Admitted consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke brain infarct type were included. Admission sociodemographic, clinical, laboratory and imaging studies variables were drawn out. Quantitative variables were summarized as means, medians and interquartile ranges. Bivariate analysis was used to evaluate associations of in-hospital stroke case fatality and imputed variables. Results 402 stroke brain infarct type patients were included, mean age 73,28 years (SD±14,53), 50,4% men. Prevalent vascular risks factors were hypertension (70,90%), diabetes mellitus type 2 (24,13%) and previous stroke (20,90%). There were 13 (3,2%) in-hospital case fatalities. Mean time from admission to death was 11.38 days (SD±10,8). Lower hemoglobin levels (p=0.002), lower total, LDL and HDL serum cholesterol levels (p=0.02), internal carotid artery stenosis >50% by duplex ultrasound (p=0.01) and stroke severity as measured by NIHSS score (p<0,0001) showed association with in-hospital stroke case fatality. Conclusions NIHSS score, hemoglobin level, and cholesterol (total, LDL, HDL) levels upon admission may be used by clinicians to make the appropriate early transfer decisions to facilities with the capacity to offer advance in-hospital stroke care. The cholesterol paradox in acute stroke fatality warrants further studies.","PeriodicalId":93246,"journal":{"name":"Advances in neurology and neuroscience","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135398527","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has raised questions about a potential connection between amyloid plaque and ASD development. While the significance of this finding is not fully understood, several theories propose mechanisms by which amyloid plaque could contribute to the development of ASD. One theory suggests that amyloid-beta protein, the main component of amyloid plaque, could disrupt normal brain development and function by impairing synaptic formation and maintenance. Another theory posits that the presence of amyloid plaque may be a secondary effect of genetic and environmental factors shared with ASD. Understanding the implications of this potential link is crucial for developing effective treatments for ASD, as current options only address associated symptoms. If amyloid plaque is indeed a contributing factor, targeting its formation or accumulation in the brain could provide a new therapeutic approach. However, further research is needed to fully elucidate the relationship between amyloid plaque and autism and evaluate the feasibility of such treatments. This area of investigation holds promise for advancing our understanding and management of ASD.","PeriodicalId":93246,"journal":{"name":"Advances in neurology and neuroscience","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42216736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is generally safe and the frequency of severe, permanent neurological complications associated with it has been reported to be extremely low. We report a patient, who developed paraplegia following spinal anesthesia. A 23-year-old lady developed acute transverse myelitis (ATM) with a rapid progression of acute motor sensory spastic paraplegia and autonomic dysfunction 24 hours after delivery of her first child by caesarean section. Spinal magnetic resonance imaging revealed myelitis at D9-12. She was given 1-gram methyl prednisolone daily for 5 days followed by oral prednisolone 1mg/kg/day which was tapered off in next 3 months. The neurological recovery was fairly good and the patient returned to full time work in 6 months. Since spinal anesthesia had been used in our case, a causal relationship can be assumed. This case emphasizes the danger of attributing all cases of transverse myelitis which have a close temporal relationship to spinal or epidural anesthesia, to the anesthetic technique itself.","PeriodicalId":93246,"journal":{"name":"Advances in neurology and neuroscience","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134933645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Of these, tubercular meningitis is the most common and most devastating. The usual course is that of insidious onset and subacute progression. Adults with TBM often present with the classic meningitis symptoms of fever, headache, and meningismus (stiff neck) along with focal neurological deficits, behavioral changes, and alterations in consciousness. TBM is prone to rapid deterioration once meningeal symptoms and focal neurological signs supervene, leading to stupor, coma, and death within 5 to 8 weeks [1,2].","PeriodicalId":93246,"journal":{"name":"Advances in neurology and neuroscience","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46804299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hemoperitoneum due to rupture of a branch of the dorsal superior pancreatic artery is not frequent; the pancreas is a retroperitoneal organ that, due to its location, is difficult to be affected by trauma. Objective: to contribute to medical knowledge by presenting a case of hemoperitoneum due to a lesion in a branch of the superior pancreatic artery. Material and method: Description of a clinical case and review of the literature. Presentation of the case: a 51-year-old male patient, with a history of chronic alcoholism, who was admitted to the hospital in the surgery department for having had a blunt abdominal trauma of two days of evolution, had intense diffuse abdominal pain, did not expel feces or gas, tachycardic, with an abdominal ultrasound that reported free fluid in the cavity. He was taken to the operating room, finding hemoperitoneum due to a retroperitoneal bleeding lesion, specifically from a bleeding vessel from the superior dorsal pancreatic artery. After surgery, the patient evolved favorably and was discharged. Conclusions: hemoperitoneum due to pancreatic artery injury is not frequent, so sometimes there is a delay in the diagnosis, which threatens a good patient evolution, which justifies the morbidity and mortality in these cases.","PeriodicalId":93246,"journal":{"name":"Advances in neurology and neuroscience","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47448029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
