The analysis of Cadmium and lead content in our environment is crucial for policy makers to make decisions concerning the environment and to secure the wellbeing of the inhabitants. In this study lead and cadmium in roadside soil was analyzed. The soil sample was collected at the distance of 18m, 20m, 25m, 26m and from the roadside. The collected sample was digested on hot plate. The concentration of lead and cadmium was measured by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy (FAAS). Lead concentrations in soil samples varied from 36.47 to 43.42mgkg−1. Lead analyses showed that there was a considerable contamination in soil affected from traffic intensity. Cadmium and lead were determined using AAS in the surface layer (0.0-5.0cm) of soils, situated in areas under different impact of traffic contamination. The Concentration cadmium in soil samples lies between 0.505mg/kg to 1.745mg/kg. The obtained results of Cadmium and lead concentration in the soil around Jimma, Ethiopia; 1.745mg/kg and 43.42mg/ kg respectively, were compared with WHO and EPA. The maximum contaminate level according to WHO, for lead and cadmium in soil is 100 and 3.00mg/Kg respectively and appropriate recommendation and conclusion was forwarded. From this site the concentration of lead is higher than cadmium. The average lead and cadmium concentration in soil samples from the four sites of Jimma were all found to be below the maximum tolerable limit according to WHO standards.","PeriodicalId":92063,"journal":{"name":"Journal of analytical & pharmaceutical research","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67073281","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Antioxidants play an important role in the prevention of diseases induced by free radicals2 and systematically reduce their risk by reducing their concentrations.3 They act by inhibiting the initiation and propagation steps, resulting in the end of the reaction and delaying the oxidation process.4 In biological systems, antioxidants have multiple functions, eg it defends against oxidative damage by participating in the main cell signaling pathways and by preventing cell damage caused by the action of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Therefore, antioxidant consumption and the addition of antioxidant in food materials protect the body as well as food from deterioration of oxidation.5 Numerous methods to evaluate the antioxidant activity of specific compounds have been described, but the most widely documented relates to the 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH).6–9 DPPH is stable free radical that accepts an electron or hydrogen to become a stable diamagnetic molecule. In the DPPH radical-scavenging assay, antioxidants react with DPPH, and convert it to yellowcolored diphenylpicrylhydrazine. The color fading extent proves indirectly the radical-scavenging capacity of the antioxidant.6 The reduction of DPPH radical by antioxidants is evaluated by the decrease in absorbance at 517 nm. The decrease in absorbance of DPPH radical caused by antioxidants is due to the reaction between antioxidant molecules and radical progress which results in the scavenging of the radical by hydrogen donation.10 The DPPH tests provided in the literature are based on the same principle as described by BrandWilliams et al.,8 but the analytical protocols differ in several parameters. Evaluation of the methods and modifications for determination of the radical scavenging activity by DPPH shows that the main factors influenced the reproducibility are the solvent, duration of the reaction, sample to reagent ratio and the wave length for absorbance measurement of the decolouration of the reaction mixture.11 Therefore, it is obvious that these factors are of significance for the radical scavenging activity of the tested compounds. Pyrimidinium betaines constitute a class of mesoionic compounds12 which have raised much interest as biologically active compounds.13 Pyrimidinium betaines remain an important class of bioactive heterocyclics due to the presence of the pyrimidine ring in their structure. The literatures indicated that compounds having pyrimidine nucleus have a broad range of biological activities. As a result of their remarkable pharmacological activity, intensive research on pyrimidine derivatives has been focused on their activity, thus constituting an integral part of pharmaceutical industry.14","PeriodicalId":92063,"journal":{"name":"Journal of analytical & pharmaceutical research","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67073038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To increase the life quality of people living with HIV/AIDS, it is urgent to secure medicines of good quality and in good quantity for everyone in need. The drugs efficiency and safety depend first on their quality, and secondly on their use.1 In the particular case of DRC, we estimated that among one million people living with HIV/AIDS2 only 350,000 were having ARV treatment in 2011-2015. This number, decreased only in 44 000 patients who were effectively treated with ARVs,3 which represented a coverage of 14 % ARV treatment. This was the lowest rate in the world and shows that more than 300 000 people were in need but were not served.4 Nowadays, one can tell that the situation remains unchanged and there is an emergency for the HIV/AIDS living people. In addition to poor accessibility to ARV treatment, another important question may arise from the ARV products, and this concerns their quality! Antiretrovirals are medicines used to treat the HIV infection. They act by reducing the viral DNA replication speed, stopping at the same time its propagation in the body5. Since the launch of Monetary Found and Medicines Access Program projects, the ARV treatment is given to the public for free, but their access stills a problem in some countries. This is unfortunately the case of the DRC, where the national guide of HIV treatment was elaborated in 2003 and reviewed in 2005, 2008 and 2010, following the new recommendations of WHO.6,7 For importer countries, it is very important to certify the ARV quality according to the national guidelines and the manufacturer data submitted to the public health authorities before their launch in the market for use.8","PeriodicalId":92063,"journal":{"name":"Journal of analytical & pharmaceutical research","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67073303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
