The multiple relationships available in a group dilute the transference to and dependency on the therapist and also provide support for and connections with others in the same process. The group itself becomes the transitional object. Cohesion is the most important factor in the longevity of the group, and the leader must be active and more gratifying in creating cohesion when working with recovering addicts.","PeriodicalId":90511,"journal":{"name":"Group","volume":"37 1","pages":"295 - 310"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87313728","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article discusses the pros and cons of theory, pluralism, and how the use of self blends with and predetermines one's affinity for a theoretical model and associated approach. Clinical examples are explored through theory, the immediacy of interaction, and explicit angles of how one might use oneself clinically. In the group modality, the benefit of diverse viewpoints of the members is likened to the value of pluralism. The process in group psychotherapy is invaluable in expanding and honing the clinician's awareness of self, allowing the use of that self to be more articulated.","PeriodicalId":90511,"journal":{"name":"Group","volume":"176 1","pages":"109 - 118"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85135260","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

He conceptualizes the analytic dyad as a group of two and, consequently, individual relational psychoanalysis as a group psychotherapy. Instead of asking a patient what his or her relationship with a parent or sibling is, he suggests we ask what kind of relationship the patient had with the parent or sibling in the presence of the family as a whole. This kind of work in individual treatment could be distinguished and renamed as “group therapy with two persons.” This article advocates that psychoanalytic institutes include group therapy and basic group theory as required components for trainees.","PeriodicalId":90511,"journal":{"name":"Group","volume":"28 1","pages":"229 - 242"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83689225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors analyze the emerging intragroup and intergroup dynamics through a one-directional prism, while unfolding a multitude of identities and resonances within these relations. The article describes two groups that were facilitated side by side: a dynamic group and an observation group, which switched roles after 10 sessions. This exchange allowed members to reenact primary phenomena from sibling life, such as the mother's second pregnancy and the birth of the second child, relationships between siblings, and sibling play-space. In addition, the fact that half of the group members were Jewish and half were Arab enabled the examination of the cultural aspect through terms such as the favorite child, the rejected child, exclusion, and dialogue.","PeriodicalId":90511,"journal":{"name":"Group","volume":"19 1","pages":"327 - 341"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90582908","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
