Purpose: The purpose of this qualitative ethnographic study was to explore cultural health perceptions and behaviors of cervical cancer prevention among Korean immigrant women (KIW) in Hawaii. Methods: The Health Belief Model (HBM) and the Social Ecological Model (SEM) were used to guide the study. Data were collected using individual structured interviews with 20 KIW ages 21 to 65. Data were coded and analyzed to identify themes. Result: Findings revealed that participants (a) prefer a female gynecologist and Korean-speaking physicians; (b) are highly motivated to maintain physical health, including prevention; (c) prefer culturally appropriate community-based cancer prevention programs; and (d) expect innovative health maintenance approaches. Conclusion: Findings may be used by health care providers to identify culturally specific health needs of KIW related to cervical cancer screening, and to implement appropriate preventive measures for KIW to reduce cancer death.","PeriodicalId":89422,"journal":{"name":"Journal of nursing and healthcare of chronic illness","volume":"1971 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90539788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These questions lead us to the importance of the moral and mental health of health professionals, in which there is a high degree of suffering, observed by anguish, physical and emotional stress, uncertainty, in addition to ethical issues. All of these points lead to an even greater damage to the quality of care, which may directly influence the outcomes in health and patient safety. Creating strategies to minimize the negative aspects of the postpandemic is essential to seek alternatives for quality of care as well as ensuring a safe environment for care practice. It is essential to know the impacts of the pandemic in its different contexts, as well as the strategies currently used to minimize its impacts; so that, with the learning provided, new actions can be planned for the reconstruction of health care models.","PeriodicalId":89422,"journal":{"name":"Journal of nursing and healthcare of chronic illness","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82517422","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
