Motivating nurses to contribute in research and evidence based practice will improve their productivity and satisfaction that will improve patient clinical outcome and satisfaction. Aim: This study was conducted to investigate the barriers among nurses in Saudi Arabia to contribute in nursing research and to provide some strategies or solutions for these barriers. Method: An electronic self-administered questionnaire was developed and distributed to nursing staff in Eastern Province Ministry of Health hospitals. Results: 480 surveys were collected and the data analyzed. The participants indicated that they value research and are willing to take part in it. However, several barriers were identified that limited their participation in research including lack of time, administration support and lack of research capacity and infrastructure. Affordable education opportunities, more funding resources, and access to databases and libraries were the most recommended solutions to increase nurses’ participation in conducting research and utilizing Evidence Based Practice. Conclusion: Further efforts are needed from High Authority toward increasing nursing research. Nursing research must be on the top priorities of the Ministry of Health agenda and must be a senior management strategic goal. Further qualitative and quantitative research is needed to explore more barriers and provide more mechanisms in motivating nurses toward research.","PeriodicalId":89422,"journal":{"name":"Journal of nursing and healthcare of chronic illness","volume":"47 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78414752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Inspired by the story and his own past experiences, he decided to write a special manuscript to be shared with medical doctors. This article has a different writing style compared to his previous 354 math-physical medicine research papers, based on a quantitative method to derive analysis results with high precision, aimed at helping patients. The goal of helping patients must go through the delivery channel of physicians and surgeons, while being concerned about the psychological health of medical doctors. This is the reason why he wrote this article with a qualitative style with an aim at medical physicians. Being a physician is an enviable profession, where they greatly invested and sacrificed to reach to where they are today. In terms of financial rewards, that is money, even though they are not generously rewarded, at least they are handsomely compensated. With their added knowledge advancement, skill improvement, and society contribution, they may even earn their deserved fame. Their ultimate goal should come from saving people’s life, not the same as people with political power or financial power. In the author’s opinion, saving lives is the outmost power to achieve; therefore, it is a desirable profession indeed. By having pride and feeling prestige at commencement by getting their MD degree, the physicians should not allow their accomplishments between the ages from 20 to 30 years of age become the only internal strength and emotional support. They should continuously improve themselves to expand into different areas in exploring new findings, learning additional skills and knowledge. This life-long learning will make a broader and more capable person, even for a physician. These newly gained inner strengths will aid physicians to face new challenges in their post-graduate school life. However, there is a price to pay from having a decent, enviable, and well-compensated profession. In terms of reducing and controlling stress, burdens, and psychological pressure that comes along with their job, life, and relationships, the author believes that they must go deeper into their own inner world, i.e. their mind and heart, to search for strength. When different types of stress overwhelms them, they must return to their original motivation when they decided to become a physician which is helping their patients. Only this type of compassion in their heart, similar to having faith in a religion, can then help them survive many types of tests and challenges they encountered in their profession and private life. For those medical doctors who chose medicine for other reasons, with material or superficial motivations, they should search their heart again to see whether another career is better for them. For example, if their initial motivation was monetary, they better shift their career early enough to be an entrepre","PeriodicalId":89422,"journal":{"name":"Journal of nursing and healthcare of chronic illness","volume":"3 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87227416","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study is to examine the gap between the importance nurses ascribe to individual and professional values as against the actual implementation of these values in their work, and the impact of this gap on nurses’ burnout. Methods: A quantitative and descriptive study deploys a four-part questionnaire combining the Shorter Schwartz Value Survey and the Pines Burnout Measure on a 425-strong sample of Israeli nurses at hospitals and medical centers. Results: Burnout is especially evident in hospital departments where the demands on nursing staff are more intensive. Not only does the demanding work increase burnout, it also affects the ability to nurses’ three most important values—security, achievement and satisfaction. Gaps between value importance and actual realisation on these values contributed significantly to increased burnout. Conclusions: Nurses’ work environment is critical to shaping both the level their practice and their feelings of job satisfaction and is a direct and indirect factor in the development or prevention of burnout. Healthcare managers must recognize the negative impacts of the gap between nurses’ personal values and the values actually applied in their organization, and act to reduce this gap.","PeriodicalId":89422,"journal":{"name":"Journal of nursing and healthcare of chronic illness","volume":"44 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79668921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Originally, he used his metabolism indexes data which were collected and processed via a sophisticated software for researchers. Later, he developed a simplified APP on the iPhone for other patients. This specific article discusses the differences of health input data and output results based on metabolism indexes and estimated health ages between these two different software versions. A comparison study between the difference of estimated health ages by using two different computer software versions was completed. The finding indicates that the complex metabolism model of his chronic software version would gain an extra 1.4% of accuracy on estimating his health age when compared to the simplified APP version. The author is not a fortune teller who uses a crystal ball to predict his or other people’s future life expectancy. Rather, he is a scientist who applies solid and sophisticated scientific techniques, such as math-physical medicine with biomedical evidence, to develop a simple arithmetical formula which can serve as a useful tool for the general population to maintain their health and achieve their desired longevity.","PeriodicalId":89422,"journal":{"name":"Journal of nursing and healthcare of chronic illness","volume":"15 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86919394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nurses’ learning needs could be assessed through several tools and strategies. The aim of this study is to identify nurses ‘s (at all levels) deficits in knowledge and skills through conducting a learning need assessment tool and meet their educational needs in order to enable them practicing safe, effective, deemed competent and efficient patient care. Method: A descriptive quantitative and qualitative design adapting an Education Needs Assessment Model. Instrument used was anonymous SurveyMonkey and target population was all nurses at different levels working at King Fahad Specialist Hospital, Dammam, and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The survey was constructed through literatures utilizing multiple database such as Pubmed and CINAHL and then through meetings the expert educators and stakeholders. The survey contained nine (9) educational domains that would identify their learning deficits using Likert scale. The survey was piloted to examine both face validity and content validity and then IRB approval was granted from the hospital. Results: Data were collected and analyzed following descriptive analysis frequency statistics using Excel Spreadsheet. Response rate was 34% although the targeted response rate was 67%. Nurses with all levels and from all divisions with various years of experience had identified their learning needs on the nine domains. The major performance gap was related to research utilization and Evidence Based Practice. Another gap was found in Leadership and Management Courses to support their nurse leaders. The study recommended that nurse educators have to look at the quality of clinical teaching when they conduct inservice educational sessions in terms of when to conduct it, which learning style to adopt, where to conduct it and for how long. Conclusion: Survey Monkey is a comprehensive learning assessment tool used to identify current nurses’ knowledge and skills. Further studies and researches using different designs and instruments are strongly needed.","PeriodicalId":89422,"journal":{"name":"Journal of nursing and healthcare of chronic illness","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77213497","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
