Attention is also directed to the fact that not always the most obvious or even prehospitally established diagnosis is the correct one. In our case report the circumstances pregnancy and seizure were directly linked to the diagnosis of eclampsia but this diagnosis had to be corrected in the later course. This case report highlights the importance of rethinking potential differential diagnoses. A complicating factor was an iatrogenic overdosage of magnesium due to imprecise and confusing drug labeling (g, mg, mmol, mval) which resulted in a cardiac arrest. Furthermore, the neuroprotective effect of magnesium and the positive impact on the outcome in children, as well as the possible cardioprotective effect of magnesium in mothers is demonstrated.","PeriodicalId":87233,"journal":{"name":"Clinical obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive medicine","volume":"64 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88160122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A better understanding of how SARS-CoV-2 causes disease and how the host responds can help direct new therapeutic targets. With the arrival of the “new normal”, women who want to start or who are already undergoing treatment require cosmetic, esthetic and/or functional gynecological procedures that have been safely and ethically modified. Given that there is a possibility of the pandemic re-emerging and that we do not know how the use of different techniques can affect the virus environment, we must take the lessons learned seriously in these unprecedented times, since the virus will not completely disappear from our society once the first wave of the pandemic ends.","PeriodicalId":87233,"journal":{"name":"Clinical obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive medicine","volume":"31 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90879034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Low quality of pelvic connective tissue contributes to the development of the above conditions. Previous studies suggest that relaxin reduces the tensile strength of pelvic connective tissue. The aim of this study was to assess the presence of relaxin in uterine supporting tissues from patients with pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary continence. Methods: We recruited 90 women: 30 patients with pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence, 30 continent women with pelvic organ prolapse and 30 controls. Tissue samples from the participants were obtained from the insertion sites of the uterosacral and cardinal ligaments at the time of hysterectomy. Immunostaining defined relaxin expression intensity. Results: There are statistically significant differences regarding the intensity of relaxin expression between women with pelvic organ prolapse plus stress urinary incontinence and continent women with or without pelvic organ prolapse, as well as between women with prolapse plus incontinence and controls (P<0.05). Continent women with prolapse and controls were more likely to have negative relaxin expression than incontinent women with prolapse. Not any statistically significant differences were found between women with both prolapse and incontinence and women with prolapse only, as well as between continent women with prolapse and controls. Incontinent patients with prolapse had a higher probability of having positive relaxin expression than controls. No women with prolapse and only one control had strongly positive relaxin expression. Conclusions: Positive relaxin expression in pelvic connective tissue could be a predisposing factor for pelvic organ prolapse and/or stress urinary incontinence. Possible future interventions based on relaxin expression may aid in the non-surgical management of pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence.","PeriodicalId":87233,"journal":{"name":"Clinical obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive medicine","volume":"24 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86485976","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Predisposition factors such as age of the mother, absence or hypoplasia of nasal bone, increased NT (nuchal translucency) measurement, heredity, gene disorders are strongly accompanied with congenital deviations. Sonographic imaging findings of fetal facial anatomic area can provide information concerning antenatal diagnosis of fetuses with various congenital syndromes and chromosomal aberrations. Deviation from normal proportions of fetal facial profile not only might consist of ‘soft sonographic signs’ , leading to important clues, but also suggests presence of chromosomal disorders. Binder Syndrome is characterized by midfacial hypoplasia, associated with absence of nasal spine, leading to a flat profile and depressed nasal bridge. Herein, we are very pleased to present a series of manuscripts that address the seminal “Advances in theManagement of Gynecological Cancers” to date. Our goal is to convey how new technologies, research and science have been incorporated in the daily treatment of women’s cancers and the evidence supporting these new practices. Doctors Bender, Lyons, Ghoniem, and Kumar present a series of articles addressing how minimally invasive surgery, individualized approaches, and cutting-edge selection methods are decreasing the impact and complications from cancer surgery whilemaintaining oncologic goals and optimal outcomes. Dr Bender details new applications of robotic surgery in gynecologic cancer, as does Dr Lyons who describes new techniques in laparoscopy. They explain new minimally invasive techniques and present evidence from recent clinical trials. DrGhoniem details how the introduction of clinical algorithms to optimize the application of sentinel biopsies in the staging of gynecologic malignancies is impacting the individualized surgical treatment. Likewise, Dr Kumar presents validated patient selection methods to optimize outcomes in complex ovarian cancer surgery.","PeriodicalId":87233,"journal":{"name":"Clinical obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive medicine","volume":"262 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74142949","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The overall system has been burdened with the paralysis of standard practices dedicated to the delivery of health services. This interruption has included the provision of assisted reproductive treatments to infertile couples, apart from fertility preservation services to oncologic patients. On behalf of a tissue establishment inside a public hospital, we experienced a reduction of 65% of demands for fertility preservation. The unexpected and unavoidable shifts of health networks required to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic have indirectly created a new barrier obstructing the access to fertility preservation services. It is known that gaps in the organization of oncofertility cares and the lack of patients’ awareness regarding fertility preservation strategies are the most common barriers to services. The delicate working conditions due to COVID-19 have amplified those barriers, complicating the chance of counselling cancer patients of fertile age about fertility preservation options. The restart should include strategies to reduce the risk of a missed reproductive counselling, limiting the chance for the virus to become a further barrier. *Correspondence to: Jessica Daolio, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Azienda Unità Sanitaria Locale IRCCS di Reggio Emilia, Viale Risorgimento 80, 42123 Reggio Emilia, Italy, E-mail: jessica.daolio@ausl.re.it","PeriodicalId":87233,"journal":{"name":"Clinical obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive medicine","volume":"03 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86050128","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Western countries it is more commonly found on the tongue and consists one of the most common malignancies in the oral mucosa. The exact causes of squamous cell carcinoma are not known. There are many risk factors such as chemical, biological, natural and other related to culture, habits, customs and traditions, religion and environmental influences at the national level and differ in different nations. Biological agents are viruses (such as the herpes simplex virus, HPV, HIV) and mycoses. Human papillomavirus (HPV), especially HPV subtype 16, is on the rise in young people with oral cancer who are not smokers. Epidemiological studies throughout world with the help of molecular techniques undoubtedly show the crucial importance of human papillomavirus (HPV) in growth squamous cell carcinoma. The sensitive anatomical unit of the tongue in cases of malignancy in pregnant women creates significant bioethical concerns that must be addressed with delicacy, discernment and responsibility by the oncology medical team. The contribution of the 9 valent vaccination, which provides protection against this oncogenic subtype of HPV 16 associated with squamous cell carcinoma, is likely to be valuable to young women and men, and may be recommended after future studies during pregnancy.","PeriodicalId":87233,"journal":{"name":"Clinical obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive medicine","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91359820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this study was to assess the reproductive and clinical risk factors for ovarian cancer. Methodology: We carried out a case-control study, from December 1 st , 2011 till April 30th, 2016, in two reference hospitals in the city of Yaoundé. The cases were comprised of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer and the control group comprised of women without ovarian cancer consulted during the same period. Their Menstrual characteristics, reproductive and contraceptive history and history of exposure to various environmental factors were collected. The Chi Square and Fischer’s exact tests were used to compare variables. The Odds Ratio was calculated to determine association between the variables. A p value of <0.05 was considered significant. To eliminate confounding factors a logistic regression analysis was done. Results: A total of 125 patients were included in the study which comprised of 25 cases (women with ovarian cancer) and 100 controls (women having no ovarian cancer). Risk factors associated with ovarian cancer were: age greater than or equal to 48 years old (OR:37.85; p=0.000), being a widow (OR=15.25; p=0.003), being menopaused (OR=36; p=0.000), absence of contraception (OR:8.87;p=0.03)a family history of ovarian cancer (OR=24.20; p=0.004). After adjusting for the effect of the other factors, only the age group of more or equal to 48 years old was independently associated with ovarian cancer risk (aOR =29.12; p=0.01).
