The rationale for the same becomes relevant when the economy has been undergoing structural changes over a span of time and the demand pattern for skills of different kinds has changed in different sectors, especially in the manufacturing sector. The study aims to make a comparison in public spending on technical education and its proportion to the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) among 15 major states from 1991-1992 to 2011-2012 at constant prices. Inter-state comparison perceives that the states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, economically and educationally backward, registered a negative growth rate in expenditure on technical education. Empirical results show that per student expenditure has risen appreciably in the 1990s, while after 2001-2002 it declined at both current and real prices. The per student expenditure is lower in the poor states which engrossed consideration toward more public spending in the destitute regions of the nation.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"41 1","pages":"167-184"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83144446","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

India has also taken measures to accelerate financial inclusion. This paper, incorporating data on traditional and modern banking services as well as data related to transactions of Self-help Groups (SHGs)- linked with banks, re-examines the position of different states in terms of financial inclusion. Researchers have used modified version of Sarma’s (2008) multidimensional index and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Formal banking services have been found to be the main factors in including the financially excluded. Most states have achieved a low rate of financial inclusion. Western, southern and some northern states have done better, whereas north-eastern states have lagged behind.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"2010 35","pages":"185-210"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72538591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It increases output and also improves the efficiency of firms/industries through better utilization of factors of production. This study estimates firm level productivity in cement industry in India and examines the impact of trade liberalization. The period of the study is from 1991-1992 to 2012-2013 which is sub-divided into two sub-periods, i.e., from 1991-1992 to 2001-2002 and from 2002-2003 to 2012-2013. Productivity has been estimated using Levinshon-Petrin (gross revenue case) method. The firm levels productivity growth (semi-log trend rate of growth) in cement industry in balanced and unbalanced panels are negative 0.14 per cent and negative 0.01 per cent respectively. A significant difference in productivity growth among large, medium and small scale firms is found. Trade liberalization has led to decline in input-tariffs, output-tariffs and effective rate of protection. Increase in trade openness led to increased productivity. The study shows positive impact of increase in construction sector growth rate and decline in rate of interest and inflation rate on firm level productivity in this industry.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"15 1","pages":"211-237"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73806221","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study demonstrates its macroeconomic impact on base and broad money, currency with the public, interest and inflation rate. Black income is co-integrated with them. The long-run causality between black income and these variables is unidirectional and stable. Black income Granger causes monetary aggregates and nominal interest rate in short run, but Granger causes inflation rate only in the long run. It has predictive content for monetary aggregates, nominal interest and inflation rate that could be used in monetary policy formulation.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"5 1","pages":"89-108"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78872336","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The latest to join them is M.D. David who has looked at it from a new perspective. This is the subject of this book. It essentially highlights four significant aspects of the Great Rebellion. It states that its roots can be traced to the British deprivation of the legitimate right of Raja Pratap Singh of Satara, a scion of Chatrapati Shivaji and his successor, which hurt the Maratha pride. It points out that the key leaders were Nana Saheb, Tatya Tope, Rani Laxmibai and Rango Bapuji who hailed from Maharashtra. Nana Saheb by declaring himself the Prime Minister of the Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar united together the Hindu-Muslim forces in India for the first time to fight to secure their freedom by driving away the British. The book demolishes the hitherto held view that India south of the Narmada remained unaffected during the Great Rebellion.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"1202 1","pages":"163-164"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85445035","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

ARIMA (4, 1, 0) stochastic structure of monthly spot rate (S t ) has been used to generate one – period ahead forecast (S e t+1 ) series. These forecasts are MMSE forecasts and ‘Rational’ by nature. The study shows that one – month lagged forward rate maintains an independent long – run stable relation with spot rate while there exists no co-integrating relation between spot rate and contemporaneous forward rate. One – period lagged forward rate is an optimal forecast of the next period spot rate in the sense that it will be proved wrong only to the extent ofa white noise error term. Risk premium is absent and CIRAP holds in the market such that lagged forward exchange rate on average equals the spot rate in the long – run. There exists no scope for reaping arbitrage profit arising out of the difference between forward rate and corresponding spot rate. This testifies for the ‘efficiency’ of Indian foreign exchange (rupee/dollar) market.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"48 1","pages":"109-138"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86832291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
