She was, in her own time, the youngest of them and most consequential at that, having made CPE the centre-piece of virtually all her work. The present account of Bharadwaj’s work and persona highlights four features that seem to set her apart from other scholars. The first one is that she was completely home-grown as an economist. All her training, including doctoral study, was in India. This was by choice (see below) and unlike the case of her seniors like Arun Bose and Gautam Mathur, and contemporaries such as Sukhamoy Chakravarty and Amartya Sen. When she published her well-known review of Sraffa’s Production of Commodities by Means of Commodities (Sraffa 1960; henceforth PCMC) in the Indian journal Economic Weekly (see Bharadwaj 1963), she was teaching at Bombay University and had no direct exposure to Cambridge, UK.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"21 1","pages":"34-43"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88420543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper closely deals with the two fundamental aspects of Bose’s involvement with Sraffa’s 1960 book: (a) the assumption of constante turns to scale and (b) the role of demand in value theory. The Bose-Sraffa engagement yields a useful output – an interpretation of Sraffa’s work, in the tradition of the \u0000classical economists.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"57 1","pages":"17-33"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72916912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

States adopting central policies on information technology have benefitted by software exports. Besides, every job created here re-creates four more jobs. This is the study on inter-sectoral linkage of information sectors to other sectors of the economy by using 2003-2004 and 2007-2008 national tables and constructed regional tables. Results show at national level, non-information sectors depend more on their demand links as compared with information sectors and vice versa in the case of supply links. At state level, information sectors depend more on their demand as well as supply links as compared with the non-information sectors. Results also show a number of non-information sectors and a few information sectors to have over investment in inventories.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"10 1","pages":"263-290"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81921720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The comparisons are done by comparing the changes in sector-wise outputs resulting from (i) Using the same final demand on different I-O tables (Technology effect) and (ii) Changing the final demand and keeping the same I-O table (Demand effect). For some studies even the individual input coefficients have been compared. These comparisons can be effectively done if the sources for the data and methodology of construction of tables are the same. However, there are problems in making a such analysis. At an interval of about five years, the base for National Accounts Statistics is revised. With the revision of the base some changes are made in the estimates leading to huge differences. They are not because of a structural change but the change in output by adding new areas of production. Once this change is made, the revised output has to be adjusted in the row of the sector. With the availability of recent data or changes of data source with each changing series, the estimates differ. For the series with the base 2011-2012, for manufacturing, the concepts have changed from registered and unregistered to organized and unorganized manufacturing. In fact, the CSO has already constructed supply-use tables for the years 20011-2012 and 2012- 2013 by using estimates compiled for the new series of estimation of GDP (2011-2012 base). There are huge differences in the value of output and GVA in case of a number of sectors for the year 2011-2012 for both the series. We have analysed the effects of such changes on the supply use table constructed by CSO for the year 2012-2013.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"431 1","pages":"253-262"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88816796","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These patterns can be linearized and adjusted for evaluating the input–output model at constant prices and level of production. The pattern for assessing at constant prices provides an exact identifiability of the model when the Leontief technical coefficients and the product-mix matrix are invariable. In contrast, the model based on the other pattern is exactly identifiable when the Ghosh allocation coefficients and the market shares matrix stay invariant. The regular (rectangular case) and supplementary (square case) solutions for both types of input–output models are obtained. Supplementary solutions are used to formulate generalized versions of Leontief demand-driven model and Ghosh supply-driven model. For symmetric input-output table, the properties of diagonal production matrix allow transforming the generalized models into the “classical” Leontief and Ghosh input–output models. The equivalence of Leontief price model and Ghosh supply-driven model as well as the equivalence of Leontief demand-driven model and Ghosh quantity model is proven. The obtained formulas demonstrate a remarkable set of duality properties.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"11 1","pages":"291-301"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88964379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first one seems to be plausible whereas the second one is not appropriate for those countries like Iran which have regional accounts. The comparison of the regional sectoral value added and the regional GDP figures of Gilan and Hormozgan provinces derived from the CHARM method with corresponding official figures reveal underestimation of 2.4 per cent for Gilan province and overestimation of 9.9 per cent for Hormozgan province. These deviations are more pronounced in regional sectoral value added of two provinces. These observations raise an important question: why one should overlook and/or unnecessarily adjust the official data? To solve this issue a new mixed CHARM-RAS method is proposed. The overall findings show that first of all, as compared to the CHARM method, the proposed mixed method guarantees the regional sectoral value added and GDP of two provinces provided by SCI. Secondly, the degree of accuracy between two methods reveals that the proposed method outperforms the CHARM method in all the statistical methods.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"76 1","pages":"302-324"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85442117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately, all classics are ill-fated because they are often quoted but seldom read. Classics are revered and quotations from them adorn the walls of economics departments. Another way in which economics students learn about Ricardo is in the initial chapters of their textbooks, suggesting that these ideas were once-upon-a-time relevant, and that the current economics is an intellectual advance over Ricardo’s economics. It is in this way that his comparative advantage theory, growth theory, rent theory, and tax theory have been assimilated into various textbooks.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"20 1","pages":"334-338"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78140965","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is shown that the equation continues to hold good in a generalized form and its paradoxical aspect, viz., its invariance to workers’ consumption and saving behaviour stands eliminated. Results of this kind strengthen the possibility that Keynesian theory could provide stronger foundations for the theory of income distribution than marginal productivities of factors.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"04 1","pages":"325-333"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85964910","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
