India is also struggling to protect its population from it. The Government of India declared nationwide lock down initially for a period of twenty-one days and then it was extended. During the period of lock down all activities like educational, cultural, religious and economical were restricted. Therefore, present paper highlights the various problems informal workers faced during this period. The paper focuses on the informal sector because in India nearly 92 per cent of the workforce works in the informal sector. The data gathered revealed that during the period of lockdown, informal workers faced various problems like lack of support from government in the form of social security, job loss, food scarcity, lack of sanitizers and problem of migration from one place to another. It is suggested that the government should support informal workers in order to compensate the loss caused due to lockdown.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"13 1","pages":"70-80"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75222827","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It primarily seeks to understand whether the on-going export-oriented policies improve India’s economic growth and/or is there a necessity to focus more on the import channel. Considering quarterly data in the post-WTO era (1996Q3 to 2019Q3), we empirically examine the long-run and short-run validity of the four alternative hypotheses, namely, export-led growth, growth-led export, import-led growth and growth-led import. Our analysis finds evidence only for the import-led growth through the GFCF in the short-run.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"29 1","pages":"88-103"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87253431","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Historical data is utilized to compute the performance of three hybrid investment portfolios. These are six G-Secs (short, medium and long term) in combination with one Mutual Fund Corporate Bond Scheme, allocated with different weights into each of the three hybrid portfolios. The paper presents risk and return performance of the three portfolios in absolute terms and also against a single government security which may be regarded as a tentative benchmark. Such hybrid debt portfolios may be of interest to various categories of investors.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"23 1","pages":"81-87"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83113282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The scenario is more distressful in the organized sector as compared with the unorganized sector. The female workforce participation in the organized sector is still low compared with some emerging nations like Indonesia, Brazil, etc. But interestingly, in the unorganized sector such participation is quite impressing in the Indian scenario. Unfortunately, higher participation of females in the unorganized sector is not a sign of improvement and may over represent the actual status. This paper tries to find out the crucial determinants of female workforce participation in the Indian unorganized sector using logistic regression model and has concluding remarks based on the analysis to bring Indian women on the path of inclusive growth providing appropriate knowledge and skills.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"44 1","pages":"23-34"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88672044","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using the available primary and secondary evidences it is estimated that a 20 per cent biofuel blending through domestic feedstock production would create up to 14.45 million sustainable entrepreneurs, primarily micro and small entrepreneurs, and 331.17 million man-days, mostly for unskilled or semi-skilled people, per year by 2025. The two most important factors that restrain the success of the programme are uncertainties in yield and fluctuating seed prices for the farmers as the latter is linked to global crude prices. It suggests fixing minimum support prices for seeds and stabilising yield at a higher level through R&D, particularly with the Government initiatives.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"56 1","pages":"1-22"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75122468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Studies show that agriculture plays an important role in the improvement of nutritional level. But malnutrition among children, high infant mortality rate and prevalence of men and women with low body mass index (BMI) raise doubts on the connection between agriculture and nutrition. In this backdrop, the present study seeks to identify the linkage between agriculture and nutrition in India using the UNICEF framework. Its findings are based on correlation and multiple regression analysis, using cross section data collected from secondary sources. It indicates that agricultural diversification, household amenities and child-care practices have a significant impact on nutrition and emphasis should be laid on increasing farmers’ income.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"118 1","pages":"47-69"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80615778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, cryptocurrencies and tokenised gold are the two popular digital wealth. While tokenised gold has the backing of un-mined physical gold, crypto has the support of an ideology-driven trust with the patronage of a mining process using supercomputing power that rewards coins. Thus, the acceptance of cryptocurrency as a reliable digital wealth depends to a large extent on its price consistency and the related independence. Many researchers tested the price efficiency of Bitcoin for different time periods up to 2017. In most cases, inefficiencies of the coins were inferred by them. Furthermore, many studies focused on the long-run and short-run volatility dynamics of Bitcoins leaving the altcoins almost unexamined. Therefore, a fresh look at the price efficiency and the inter-relationships of Bitcoin and the three altcoins, which altogether have a market capitalization of nearly 80 per cent, is attempted here. In all, six rigorous tests for independence or random walk are applied on the daily returns of the coins. Bitcoin returns showed a random walk in four out of the six tests, Ethereum and Ripple in three tests, and Bitcoin Cash only in two tests. The strong symptoms of weak form of efficiency found at least in the case of Bitcoin can be considered as its acceptance as a digital wealth. While the daily returns of all the four cryptos have a long-run equilibrium, the daily prices of Bitcoin, Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash excluding Ripple showed cointegration among themselves. Nearly 88 per cent of the short-run fluctuations in Bitcoin returns are adjusted on a daily basis. Bitcoin Granger Cause Ethereum and Ripple, a bidirectional Granger Causality is found between Ripple and Ethereum. Thus, the acceptance of cryptos, especially Bitcoin, as a digital wealth option can increase in the future.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"42 1","pages":"35-46"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82516945","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Low dormant own tax capacity, inappropriate expenditure management and meager political competition within the state are important reasons for persistent weak fiscal performance. The incomprehensiveness and operational issues of tax, prioritization for larger size of federal transfers and moderate political competition within the state pushed towards low tax capacity. Lack of strategic prioritization and operational inefficiency of public expenditure have led to inappropriate expenditure management. The state has to (i) administer its tax efficiently; (ii) manage public expenditure economically, efficiently and effectively through increasing the elasticity of developmental expenditures of GSDP and GSDP of own tax; and (iii) strategically prioritize the expenditure through decreasing the elasticity of own tax of non-developmental expenditure. The Centre may introduce an independent, impartial and semi-judicial body to equitably distribute central transfer across the state which, in turn, help the fiscal improvement of states.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"127 1","pages":"336-355"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79817928","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
