With the proliferation of the digital platform, more and more people are shifting to internet based services. Consumers are looking for ways in which they can share, swap, trade or rent goods and services. This study is focussed on the demand side of the sharing economy model which aims to identify the factors that make a consumer choose and prefer sharing option over traditional purchasing option. After identifying the factors, a survey is conducted (in Pune and Mumbai) to check the viability of these factors.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"113 1","pages":"317-335"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86464702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It tries to understand how investors forget fundamentals and make investment decisions based on emotional appeal. While the traditional theory of finance states that investors are rational and follow sound logic while making investment decisions, behavioral finance states that their financial decisions are swayed by emotional appeals and past experiences. The present study explored investment orientation and behavior of individual investors. Broadly, four dimensions of individual investment behavior were found: Safe and Fixed Return Orientation, Long Term and Rational Orientation, Reliable and Family-Orientation and High-Risk Orientation. Findings have been analyzed based on gender and income. Gender-wise significant differences revealed in investment orientation towards familyoriented and reliability seeking investment behavior. Income-wise significant differences have been observed in the risk-taking behavior of individual investors.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"4 4 1","pages":"403-412"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89495878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Rising out-of-pocket (OOP) expenses for health financing in developing countries with different methodologies to assess the associated factors with CHE has been documented. This study contributes to the existing literature from the methodological viewpoint. In the two-step approach, at the first step, the probability of a household incurring CHE has been estimated and in the second the importance of the determinants of health expenditure is examined. An analysis is done to find out whether the situation varies across the quintiles. The database is the 71st round of social consumption of health survey conducted by the NSSO during January-June 2014. Health expenditure in household budgets is the highest among the poorest quintile. Treating a non-communicable disease and opting for private facilities are expensive. Relaxing the budget constraint by financing the healthcare from sources like contributions from friends/relatives and sale of assets lead to high spending on healthcare. The study recommends health expenditure protection schemes for the vulnerable groups, etc.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"6 1","pages":"379-395"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87074849","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Comprehensive nine dimensions including 23 indicators related to various socio-economic characteristics have been examined. The data were accessed from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-4) for the year 2015-2016, which contained information of children belonging to 76,233 households of the state. Three indicators namely, stunted, wasted and underweight have been considered as comprehensive child malnutrition status. Multiple regression analysis has been used to identify various factors associated with child malnutrition. The study indicates that the prevalence of child malnutrition varied over the districts. Those with very high prevalence of malnutrition were Hamirpur, Sonbhadra, Sitapur, Bahraich and Pilibhit. In contrast, in Gautam Budh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Mathura, Firozabad and Saharanpur the prevalence of malnutrition was lower. Explanatory variables like female literacy rate, breastfeeding, toilet facility, anaemia among pregnant women, gross value from agriculture/gross cropped area and total fertility rate account for change and show a significant effect on both child malnutrition and infant mortality rate. Nutritional education of females, better sanitation facilities in backward areas, better nutrition to females and high food productivity might help in solving the nutrition status of children in Uttar Pradesh.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"19 1","pages":"356-378"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85243762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is based on cross sectional firm-level data collected through a field survey from 115 micro manufacturing enterprises. The results indicate the presence of a high degree of technical inefficiency in the production process. Output is more responsive to labour than capital, which points that higher productivity can be obtained by increasing labour and not by increasing mechanization. The enterprises are subject to decreasing returns to scale, suggesting that they are of supra-optimal size and need to adopt a policy of rational downsizing. Further, an attempt has been made to identify firm-specific and entrepreneurial background variables responsible for inefficiency using Coelli’s Inefficiency Effects Model. It is found that skilled labour ratio, firm-age, gender and experience of the entrepreneur significantly affect technical efficiency in the firms. From policy perspective, the strong influence of skilled labour points to the needfor skill upgradation and training of the local labour force. The influence of age of firms is a pointer to the benefits of the principle of learning-by-doing and accumulated knowledge. Thus, along with the establishment of new enterprises, government support policies must focus on reorganization and rehabilitation of existing old firms. The empirical evidences also point to the need for industry–specific and gender-specific policy guidelines.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"28 1","pages":"225-238"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73544977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The benefits from social protection programmes (SPPs) have reduced the incidence of poverty to the extent of 3.7 percentage points. It seems that in the case of relatively less poor households, the decreasing rate of poverty gap (PG) and square poverty gap (SPG) are less than in relatively poorer households. That indicates that relatively less poor households are more deprived (especially, double deprived) than relatively more poor households. The benefits of social protection programmes have also reduced the income inequality in both absolute and relative senses. In addition, the income of relatively poorer households has increased to a greater extent than of relatively less poor households. Absolute inequality in the presence of social protection is larger than absolute inequality in its absence. The study suggests that social protection programmes can be used as important tools for reducing inequality in the backward region of West Bengal.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"343 1","pages":"161-178"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76399817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Section 143(3) deals with complaints regarding cheque dishonour cases. Under Section 138 they are to be concluded within six months from the date of filing the complaint. However, they seldom reach finality before three or four years with repercussions on new investments, ease of business, etc. Market exchange system is applied to understand how courts dealing with Section 138 can mimic the working and objectives of an efficient exchange system. The transaction taking place in the exchange is the compensation of the loss to the receiver of the cheque owing to its dishonour. This exchange has features that will be applied in terms of attaining allocative, productive and distributive efficiencies to maximize surpluses in cheque transactions primarily by addressing the mounting transaction costs in disputes. Notwithstanding delays and pendency, there is no empirical data to quantitatively measure/substantiate this assertion and to ascertain the reasons for it. Accordingly, data from judgments delivered during 2014-2017 by the Supreme Court, and Delhi, Bombay, Madras and Calcutta High Courts have been collected to find out reasons for the backlog, They have been narrowed down to adjudication time on cases which have procedural issues or are frivolous, compromise on victim’s interest of debt recovery and mandatory settlement. The method of resolving Section 138 cases is effective to reduce the adjudication time of the courts. Relevant variables are put to statistical tests and their results interpreted.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"5 1","pages":"1-22"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88186382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
