This property conforms to the prime but latent objective of studying economic inequality, which prioritises the claim of the worse-off of the two groups. However, such measures are either much less frequently employed or lesser known. This paper makes an appraisal of some of them synchronising various approaches and perspectives with an overt objective of making them popular.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"64 1","pages":"119-142"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79312307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Shri RR Kale has done great service to the country by founding the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics in 1930. The Institute is a product of his vision, foresight and generosity. It is not a mere research or academic institution believing in excellence in scholarship. It is much more than that. It stands for service, courage and dedication to social and ethical values that are cherished in India. I have known and worked with some of its products. They believe in simplicity in personal lives also. I take this opportunity to pay a tribute to the founder, and to the institution.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"23 1","pages":"101-118"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82539835","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Output growth is decomposed into input growth effect and TFPG where the three attributes of TFPG are adjusted scale effect technological progress and technical efficiency change. A stochastic frontier model with a translog production function is used to estimate the growth attributes of TFP of the 2-digit manufacturing industries in 15 major industrialized states vis-a-vis all-India. Empirical results show that input growth effect is the major contributor to output growth, whereas TFPG sometimes remains inadequate even though it has a significant effect on output growth. Technological progress is found to be the major contributor to TFPG and the decline in it of the 2-digit manufacturing industries in almost all the states as well as in all-India during the post-reform period is due to decline in technological progress of the same. The scale effect has also become important in recent years, but the impact of technical efficiency effect becomes negative in most cases. The relevant policy implication for a sustainable post-reform Indian economy is the need to improve TFPG components of the manufacturing industries for the overall balanced growth of the economy.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"72 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75348318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But most of the related studies are focused on analyzing economic-financial effect of the said management on companies and little effort has been devoted to study the effectiveness of an integrated marketing campaign in this regard. Starting from the strategic consistency as a way of integration, this paper considers the effects that an integrated campaign can have on the processing of information and on the evaluations that the consumer makes of the campaign.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83396618","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper assesses the determinants of morbidity and hospitalisation here using NSSO 71 st round data. While we compare the results with the extant literature, drawing cues from the results, we explore public policy options that are appropriate to the context of Kerala. Moreover, the paper also examines the disease profile of hospitalized households.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"71 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88099664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using yearly data for the period from 1990 to 2016, we have employed bounds testing (ARDL) cointegration approach. Our main findings are that all the selected determinants are cointegrated with inflation in India. The error correction term with negative sign shows high speed towards equilibrium. In the long run exchange rate, world food inflation and money supply significantly contributed to increasing inflation. In the short run except for the weighted average call money rate and GDP per capita annual growth rate, all the variables play a significant role in determining inflation. The study suggests enhancement of production and productivity of agricultural commodities, especially of pulses, and management of exchange rate fluctuation that plays a multilateral role in the price management of an open economy like India.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75398376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since Indian independence policy initiatives have been taken to mitigate their sufferings through interventions in the rural credit market by the Indian state. In this paper we undertake an evaluation of these policies in altering the sources of rural debt primarily from non-institutional to institutional sources till the economic reforms in early 1991 and then followed by reversal in trends: return of money lenders and land lords in the rural credit market. A counter argument is provided to the generally advanced argument that the implementation failure of priority sector lending led to economic reforms. Our argument is a willful design was erected by rural elite in pursuit of helping industrial capital to prepare ground for international capital to persuade Indian state to join the globalization process. Besides other data, we bring in primary data on indebtedness of 255 HHs of small and marginal farmers and landless workers in 10 villages across five blocks of district Mansa and 532 NREGA beneficiaries in 47 villages of Hoshiarpur, Muktsar and Amritsar districts (Punjab) to show that with the withdrawal of the state, money lenders and landlords have returned to the rural credit market in regions/areas inhabited by low caste and land poor people.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"78 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77377011","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In non-mainstream economics, in the classical, the Marxian, the Kaleckian and the Post-Keynesian currents of thought, power is an important analytical category. Yet in the main parts of contemporary mainstream economics, especially in much of conventional micro- and macroeconomics, no attempt is made to come to grips with what power means and what its effects are, and the systemic importance of power relationships is widely ignored. Against this backdrop, this paper attempts to bring to the fore ideas of past economists and social and political philosophers, who basically saw socio-economic affairs and outcomes as driven by, and reflecting, power relationships, starting with the writings of late mercantilist and early classical economists. It also analyses how the attention in economics shifted away from the problem of power from the latter part of the nineteenth century with the rise to dominance of marginalist economics.","PeriodicalId":84206,"journal":{"name":"Artha vijnana : journal of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Poona (India) = Artha vijnana : Gokhale Artha Sastra Samstha Dvara Prakasita Traimesika Patrika","volume":"70 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91125793","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
