Data were processed using multivariate supervised and non-supervised chemometric techniques involving cluster analysis, principal component analysis (PCA), linear dis - criminant analysis (LDA), K nearest neighbours (KNN) and soft independent modelling of class analogy (SIMCA). The results obtained have allowed for the categorisation of wine samples according to their origin; the wines with Ribeira Sacra Certified Brand of Origin (CBO) can be differentiated from the wines of two other CBO from Galicia: Ribeiro and Valdeorras. The latter two types of wine are made with the same or similar grape varieties; hence, due to their similar organoleptic properties they a re possible substitutes for the falsification of Ribeira Sacra wines.","PeriodicalId":8221,"journal":{"name":"Analusis","volume":"64 1","pages":"432-437"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79665494","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A restricted wavelength range was proposed to recognize the tablets independently of the presentation over the NIR-light beam. For transmittance measurement, the tablets were arranged in groups according to their similarities. All calibrations were teste d against an independent set of sample spectra. The nitrite determination is based on the Griess-Llosvay reaction. Nitrate is previously reduced to nitrite in a copperized cadmium column and analyzed as nitrite. The sulphate determination is based on the turbidimetric determination using barium chloride as reagent. The phenolic compounds determination is based on oxidative coupling with 4-aminoantipyrine (4-AAP) in alkaline solution. The resulting products of each reaction were spectrophotometrically measured at 540 nm. The proposed system is fully automatized and is able to monitor nitrite, nitrate, sulphate and phenolic compounds, simultaneously, in samples at a frequency of about 12 samples per hour with a relative standard deviation (RSD) better than 2.0 %, 0.7 %, 1.5 % and 2.2%, respectively. The calibration graph is linear between 0.05 and 25 mg.dm -3 for nitrite, 0.05 and 15 mg.dm -3 for nitrate, 5 and 200 mg.dm -3 for sulphate and, finally, between 0.5 and 25 mg.dm -3 for phenolic compounds.","PeriodicalId":8221,"journal":{"name":"Analusis","volume":"1 1","pages":"295-301"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75720258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Brain tissue from Alzheimers patients contains lower concentrations of Growth Inhibitory Factor or MT-3. Induction of MT by bismuth increases resistance to renal toxicity of cis-platinum and may be advantageous in can- cer therapy. Cadmium exposure induces MT-syn- thesis in liver, binding Cd and protecting against acute toxicity. Cd-MT is released from liver into plasma, filtered in renal glomerulus and absor- bed in tubules. Lysosomal breakdown of MT releases toxic Cd. This mechanism explains renal tubular damage after long-term exposure to Cd. Impaired tubular regulation of calcium and vita- min D metabolism contributes to the develop- ment of the adverse effects on the skeleton. Quantitative, specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR) studies showed increased expression of mRNA of MT in testicles after Cd exposure, sup- porting the notion that MT increases cellular resistance to metals and protects from Cd toxi- city. This idea was advanced by one of the pre- sent authors thirty years ago.","PeriodicalId":8221,"journal":{"name":"Analusis","volume":"09 1","pages":"396-400"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86224371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recombinant somatotropins, which differ from their native form by several amino acids, have been synthesised in order to increase milk production in dairy cows. As their use is forbidden in Europe, control has to be performed. Until now, radioimmunoassay methods were generally used for quantification, but none is able to distinguish endogenous from recombinant somatotropins. Herein, a sensitive method based on liquid chromatography‐mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and electrospray ionisation (ESI) is presented in view to identify and quantify somatotropins in milk and plasma. Accuracy of the technique should allow the molecular mass differentiation between pituitary and recombinant somatotropins. The detection limit was measured at the nanogram level. As a second approach an enzymatic digestion was performed on recombinant somatotropin. A N-terminal digest proved to be specific and would allow to differentiate recombinant and endogenous proteins. Separation and detection of peptide fragments by ESI-LC-MS appear to be promising.","PeriodicalId":8221,"journal":{"name":"Analusis","volume":"28 1","pages":"280-284"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73658632","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The interference observed is mainly due to variable calcium content in samples; in most cases the excessive plasma loading by Ca is responsible for signal suppression of analyte elements. Such matrix effect may be managed to a certain extent using a classical internal standardisation that is d is- cussed in details. Under well defined conditions, the ICP-AES-USN analysis of most trace elements leads to accurate results for matrices usually studied. However, due to chemical reactions occurring in the condensation stage of the ultrasonic nebulizer an d subsequent analyte losses to the waste, the ICP-AES-USN analysis of copper and particularly of boron has to be avoided because it leads unavoidably to erroneous results. This drawback cannot be resolved by usual means of correction but may be overcome by using conventional pneumatic nebulizers.","PeriodicalId":8221,"journal":{"name":"Analusis","volume":"42 1","pages":"419-425"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78692739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
