Therefore, the study of their features is relevant in understanding the tactics of diagnosis and prevention of cervical lesions. Aim of the research: A comparative analysis of the morphological structure and chemical composition of the dentin of intact teeth, teeth with cervical caries, and a wedge-shaped defect. Material and methods: The study included 29 clinically extracted teeth of both jaws and their longitudinal sections, from patients aged 25–54 years, using a JSM-6490 LV focused-beam electron microscope (scanning) with system of energy-dispersive X-ray microanalysis. The chemical composition of 235 dentine areas in the incisal region (tubercle), equator, and cervical area was determined as a percentage of the weights of carbon, oxygen, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, magnesium, sulphur, chlorine, zinc, potassium, and aluminium. Results: The differences in the content of oxygen, sodium, and zinc in the dentin of all studied anatomical regions were determined, depending on the state of hard dental tissues (p ≤ 0.05). The teeth with cervical caries had less oxygen and more zinc while the teeth with a wedge-shaped defect had less sodium (p ≤ 0.05). An inverse correlation was revealed between carbon and phosphorus, and carbon and calcium in the area of the incisal region (tubercle); direct correlation between phosphorus and calcium (p ≤ 0.05) at the equator and in the cervical region was also revealed. Conclusions: The heterogeneity of mineral dentin content in the studied zones is probably because of the load on various areas and their morphological characteristics.","PeriodicalId":81014,"journal":{"name":"Contributions in medical studies","volume":"89 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80330562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Throughout the centuries, lonely motherhood has been considered as a disgrace for the woman and for her family. Even rich women were exposed to social ostracism and condemnation, and their children were named ‘bastard’. The women found care and help only from the churches and from rich philanthropists. Institutional help from the state began only at the beginning of the 20 th century. Today, through to the social and moral changes of the last dozen years, single motherhood has started to be transformed into self-reliant motherhood. Thanks to the help of the state, single women can cope with the situation much better than their precursors. There is still a group of single mothers who, on account of their bad economic situation, family violence, or life incapability, need special care and support.","PeriodicalId":81014,"journal":{"name":"Contributions in medical studies","volume":"48 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87556746","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In some studies pain is suggested as a predominant feature that influences patient’s perception of the treatment as a whole. Aim of the research: To find predictors of pain and impairment of daily routines in patients currently undergoing orth- odontic treatment. Material and methods: The study was based on a self-created anonymous questionnaire with both close-ended and open questions. Patients from one dental practice were asked to fill out anonymous questionnaire on satisfaction with orthodontic treatment and its impact on their daily routines. Results: There were altogether 148 questionnaires filled out by 108 (73%) women and 40 (27%) men. Mean age of patients was 25.8 ±6.4 (min.–max.: 18–44) years. More than 90% of patients with LHB tendinopathy have an additional shoulder pathology. Thus, a detailed radiological and histopathological evaluation is crucial for a complete and accurate diag- nosis. The pathology of the LHBT starts from its ultrastructure with the alterations of both tenocytes and extracellular matrix. Furthermore, this is reflected in the light microscopy investigation, with marginal inflammatory response. Clinical studies show that, along with the classic quantitative indicators of treatment success regarding the patient’s life expectancy, the parameters of quality of life, which include, among others, a reduced number of symptoms of disease, improved well-being and mood, as well as physical fitness, are of great importance. The interest in the problem of quality of life is also conducive to the development of new research tools. However, it should be remembered that regardless of the tool used, the quality of life felt by the patient is individual and changes over time. The ease of use of questionnaires and analogue scales allows us to obtain various types of information, provided that certain criteria are met.","PeriodicalId":81014,"journal":{"name":"Contributions in medical studies","volume":"27 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85916218","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The following are more common in people with obesity: coronary artery disease, hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidaemia, sleep apnoea, osteoarthritis, and neoplastic diseases. Current treatments have turned out to be ineffective, and the resulting weight loss is usually short-term. Bariatric surgery, combined with lifestyle changes in the form of modification of eating habits and increased physical activity, has been recognized as the most effective method of treating patients with morbid obesity Aim of the research: To assess the eating habits and frequency of food intake of patients qualified for bariatric surgery. Material and methods: The study was conducted among 48 patients with obesity staying at the Department of General, Oncological, and Endocrinological Surgery of the Provincial Polyclinic Hospital in Kielce, Poland. The study used the KomPAN questionnaire, developed by the Team of Behavioural Determinants of Nutrition of the Committee for Nutrition Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Results: Almost 90% of patients scored low on the ‘healthy diet index’. Only 12% of patients consumed wholemeal bread and/or thick groats every day. Additionally, 6% of the subjects drank milk every day, 4% fermented milk drinks, and 35% consumed cottage cheese several times a week. Similarly, most patients (including all people aged > 40 years) scored low on the ‘unhealthy diet index’ (approx. 96% of the group). Only 16.7% of all patients had good nutritional knowledge, while 77.1% – regardless of the obesity class – had sufficient knowledge. Conclusions: The low scores of the healthy diet index indicate the need for regular dietary consultations, during which patients will be educated about the use of nutritional knowledge and the application of healthy eating principles in practice.","PeriodicalId":81014,"journal":{"name":"Contributions in medical studies","volume":"44 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82607547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
