It then shifts to congressional efforts to save the plans beginning with the Multiemployer Pension Reform Act of 2014 and continuing through the complex development of the HEROES Act with its conflicting EPPRA and GROW Act provisions. Due to an unresolved conflict between the Senate Republicans and the House Democrats, the pension provisions were removed from the compromise legislation that was signed into law at the very end of the Trump Administration. The matter will be further addressed by the new Democratic-controlled Congress and the Biden/Harris Administration. However, that may take a while. The issues are complicated and the Congress may be busy with more pressing matters for some time to come.","PeriodicalId":79838,"journal":{"name":"Compensation and benefits review","volume":"25 1","pages":"31 - 48"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81472283","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Analyses of a Texas pizza delivery driver's tip records and of nationwide Square payment data for quick- and full-service restaurants explored this issue by comparing tips during the pandemic with those before it. These data suggest that the pandemic increased the average tip-per-order given to a pizza delivery driver as well as the average tip percentage given for many transactions at quick- and full-service restaurants. They also suggest that the pandemic decreased the average tip percentage for face-to-face transactions at full-service restaurants but only by a modest 1 to 2 percentage points. The findings suggest that the tipping model remains a viable means of employee compensation even during periods of public health and economic crises if the nature of the services provided does not change substantially.</p>","PeriodicalId":79838,"journal":{"name":"Compensation and benefits review","volume":"53 3","pages":"130-143"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/0886368721999135","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"39876148","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the full extent of that shift from fully functioning DB plans is generally understated. This article measures and relates the extent of that understatement and its importance for retirement income. It then discusses the increasing importance of cash balance and pension equity plans and their legality. It then conducts an in-depth discussion of large (Fortune 500) employers, small- and medium-sized employers, and then very small employers (25 or fewer active participants). It concludes that retirement income plans in the United States are far from static. Indeed, they have evolved throughout the era and will continue to do so in the future.","PeriodicalId":79838,"journal":{"name":"Compensation and benefits review","volume":"10 1","pages":"175 - 187"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79071932","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors conducted a similar assessment of these same plans ten years earlier to determine the fiscal impact of these plans due to state mandates that accompany state funding for each of these plans. The current study analyzes key measures of fiscal health over the last ten years for these same plans to ascertain whether the fiscal condition of these plans remained constant, that is, whether underfunded plans continued to be questionably managed and whether well-funded plans continued to be fiscally stable considering economic trends and the lessening of state mandates on the use of state funding for these plans. The findings show that the overwhelming majority of the plans neither significantly changed their financial condition nor their general ranking among the plans evaluated.","PeriodicalId":79838,"journal":{"name":"Compensation and benefits review","volume":"19 1","pages":"159 - 174"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85163390","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is important for the small business owner to be aware of the effects this will have on the physical environment and also on the needs of their employees and customers. It is important to remember that various level needs can be worked on at the same time.
