En todos los casos documentados, el agente etiologico es el gusano del corazon del perro, Dirofilaria immitis, unica especie del genero identificada como causal de infecciones naturales autoctonas en el pais. En este estudio, se presentan evidencias morfologicas, serologicas y moleculares de la infeccion de otra especie del genero Dirofilaria en 8 perros de la ciudad de Neuquen, en el extremo norte de la Patagonia. Las microfilarias observadas tuvieron una media de 370 mm de largo y 7,1 mm de ancho. Las secuencias obtenidas mostraron homologias inferiores al 95 % con otras secuencias de filaridos reportadas en el GenBank.","PeriodicalId":7773,"journal":{"name":"Analecta Veterinaria","volume":"37 1","pages":"010-010"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45192827","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indirect MHC typing by microsatellites (STR) provides data on genetic diversity and population structure, and provides knowledge of selective and evolutionary processes. In order to characterize a sample of Arab horses, we identified MHC haplotypes based on three STRs (UM011, DRB2-STR2 and COR112) covering a region of ~1Mpb. Genomic DNA was extracted from blood and hair of 30 horses from five farms of the province of Buenos Aires. STRs were amplified with fluorescent primers and typed in an automated sequencer. Population and diversity parameters were estimated. Haplotype detection was performed by segregation analysis and with the PHASE program for reconstructing haplotypes. Of the 24 haplotypes identified, 12 were verified by segregation in the Stud Book pedigree records. Our results showed linkage with known equine leukocyte antigen (ELA) class II alleles. The number of haplotypes identified allowed to expand the estimates of diversity in the equine MHC. This methodology is a useful tool and an alternative approach to type MHC in horse lineages and immune-related population studies.","PeriodicalId":7773,"journal":{"name":"Analecta Veterinaria","volume":"37 1","pages":"003-003"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43932781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Soil with abundant organic material, bird droppings and bat guano, constitutes the ecological niche of this microorganism. In this literature review the issue of canine and feline histoplasmosis is addressed, referring mainly to direct and indirect diagnostic methods employed for identification. Clinical manifestations characteristic of each stage of the disease and their treatments are described; also, a diagnostic algorithm is presented.","PeriodicalId":7773,"journal":{"name":"Analecta Veterinaria","volume":"37 1","pages":"007-007"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46444102","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hepatozoon canis y Hepatozoon americanum son las dos especies que pueden infectar al perro. La presentacion clinica de la infeccion con Hepatozoon canis es muy variable, pudiendo ser asintomatica o manifestarse con signos de enfermedad leves a severos. Los examenes hematologicos revelan ligera anemia no regenerativa, marcada leucocitosis neutrofilica con desvio a la izquierda y monocitosis en los casos de hepatozoonosis clinica. El diagnostico se realiza mediante la visualizacion mediante el microscopio optico de los gamontes en neutrofilos y monocitos en frotis de sangre coloreados. No existe, hasta el momento, un tratamiento eficaz para esta parasitosis. El farmaco mas utilizado es el dipropionato de imidocarb, aunque con resultados variables. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar tres opciones terapeuticas para la erradicacion de Hepatozoon spp. de la sangre de perros infectados. Se utilizaron 18 perrosparasitados naturalmente y se evaluaron tres farmacos: dipropionato de imidocarb, toltrazuril y espiramicina. En todos los perros tratados disminuyo el promedio de infeccion, presentando similares valores medios de leucocitos infectados. El analisis estadistico arrojo una diferencia significativa solo en el tratamiento de la parasitosis con dipropionato de imidocarb. En virtud de los resultados obtenidos con los tratamientos llevados a cabo con los diferentes farmacos, se concluye que ninguno es totalmente efectivo para la desaparicion del parasito de la sangre, siendo el dipropionato de imidocarb el de mejor comportamiento.","PeriodicalId":7773,"journal":{"name":"Analecta Veterinaria","volume":"37 1","pages":"002-002"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42027310","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They have been used especially to analyze neoplastic tissues. However, the advantages of this technique could be applied to other research areas such as embryology and histology. This study explores the use of tissue microarrays for morphological and molecular analysis of normal tissues from animals. A total of 82 samples of normal skin from prenatal and postnatal dogs were selected and used to construct the array. A large number of sections from this array block were obtained and routine stain and immunohistochemistry techniques were applied. The results show the effectiveness of the technique for morphological and molecular analysis of a large number of normal tissue samples simultaneously. This allows the standardized assessment of tissues, thus reducing the variability that can occur when testing is performed on individual samples.","PeriodicalId":7773,"journal":{"name":"Analecta Veterinaria","volume":"37 1","pages":"008-008"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43617054","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Son invasivos y su coexistencia con especies domesticas implica riesgos sanitarios. Argentina es considerada libre de fiebre aftosa (FA), peste porcina clasica (PPC) y africana (PPA) y sindrome reproductivo y respiratorio porcino (PRRS). La enfermedad de Aujeszky (EA) y la leptospirosis son endemicas en ciertas areas del pais. El objetivo fue evaluar la presencia de ciertas enfermedades zoonoticas y/o de importancia para la produccion animal y la conservacion de la biodiversidad en cerdos silvestres de la Bahia de Samborombon. Se capturaron 118 animales. Se tomaron muestras de suero, tonsilas, musculo, intestino delgado, linfonodulos, entre otras. Se estudio la presencia de anticuerpos contra Brucella spp., coronavirus respiratorio porcino, virus de la estomatitis vesicular, de la FA, de la gastroenteritis transmisible porcina (TGEV), de la PPC, PPA, EA, PRRS y Leptospira spp. Se realizaron analisis bacteriologicos para Mycobacterium spp. Los resultados ratificaron la ausencia de las enfermedades exoticas e indicaron que 36 % de los animales presento anticuerpos contra Leptospira interrogans serovar pomona y 62,5 % contra el virus de la EA. Estos resultados remarcan la importancia del monitoreo de la interfase productiva/silvestre en funcion de la salud publica, produccion animal y conservacion de la biodiversidad.","PeriodicalId":7773,"journal":{"name":"Analecta Veterinaria","volume":"37 1","pages":"004-004"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46483353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Blood is an important source of infection in veterinary practice; only 5 microliters are enough to infect a cow experimentally. The Zona Deprimida del Rio Salado (ZDRS) is the main region of breeding calves in Argentina, covering more than 6 million hectares with 16 % and 34 % of the national and provincial calf stock, respectively. The latest reports of ELB prevalence in cow-calf farms in Buenos Aires province were performed more than 20 years ago with values lower than 2 %. In this work, 1957 bovines from 90 cow-calf farms representing just over 85 % of the ZDRS were sampled to determine the presence of antibodies against BLV by agar gel immunodiffusion, a test used extensively in epidemiological studies, control and eradication of the disease. The prevalence in cow-calf farms was 6.6 % while the individual prevalence was 0.36 %. Since ZDRS is the main area of breeder calfs production in Argentina, it is relevant to determine EBLprevalence in this region in order to detect EBL free zones.","PeriodicalId":7773,"journal":{"name":"Analecta Veterinaria","volume":"37 1","pages":"005-005"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48691471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Twenty healthy, pure-breed, female dogs were evaluated during 80 days of postpartum period. In each evaluation, total horns diameters (TD) and endometrium thickness (E) were measured. Color Doppler was used to localize uterine arteries at both sides of the body and pulsed-wave Doppler was performed to obtain the waveforms. Peak systolic velocity (PSV) and end diastolic velocity (EDV) were measured. Resistance index [RI=(PSV−EDV)/PSV] was automatically calculated. Values of TD, E, PSV, EDV and RI were analyzed by repeated measures ANOVA followed by a Tukey test. An analysis of covariance was employed to evaluate the effect of number of puppies on RI. A correlation analysis was also carried out between the RI, the TD and the E. A progressive decrease of the TD (P 0,1). It is concluded that uterine artery blood flow progressively decreased during normal canine puerperium, associated to the two-dimensional ultrasonographic regression of the organ.","PeriodicalId":7773,"journal":{"name":"Analecta Veterinaria","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68796022","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
