It is associated with an elevation in blood glucose levels. Oxidative stress caused by hyperglycemia is central to the occurrence of diabetic complications such as retinopathy, nephropathy and diabetic osteopenia. Alveolar Bone forms the primary support structure of teeth. It’s affected majorly by diabetic osteopenia. Some antidiabetic drugs may also increase the risk of diabetic fractures. Hesperidin is an active flavanone isolated from citrus fruits . OBJECTIVES: The aim of the current study is to evaluate the effect of Hesperidin administration on alveolar bone structure in rats with Streptozotocin-induced diabetes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eighteen adult male albino rats will be randomly divided into 3 equal groups: Group I (Control group). Group II (DM group): Rats will be administered Streptozotocin (STZ) to induce DM. Group III (Hesperidin group): Rats with STZ–induced DM will be given Hesperidin via gastric gavage. Rats will be euthanized after 6 weeks. Mandibles will be dissected and prepared for histological evaluation by light and scanning electron microscope. Percentages of Calcium and Phosphorus will be analyzed using EDX . RESULTS: Control group showed normal histological features of the alveolar bone. The diabetic group revealed an irregular outline with severe destruction while the Hesperidin group showed almost normal restoration of the structure of alveolar bone . CONCLUSION: Hesperidin exerted a protective effect on alveolar bone osteoporosis in diabetic rats .","PeriodicalId":7723,"journal":{"name":"Alexandria Dental Journal","volume":"8 20","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138609825","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of 3D printed patient customized guides in conjugation with arthrocentesis in treatment of internal derangement of temporomandibular joint followed by PRP injection. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 20 patients were divided into two groups. In group I patients with internal derangement were managed with patient specific guide to perform arthrocentesis in comparison with the conventional technique that was used in group II. The pain intensity, maximum inter-incisal opening and range of jaw movement in lateral and protrusion movement, joint noise, number of needle relocation and duration of the procedure were assessed. RESULTS: No needle relocation was required in the study group in contrast to the control group, with a statistically significant difference (p=0.030). The difference in the operation duration between both groups was statistically significant(p=0.003), with the study group requiring shorter time to conduct the procedure. A statistically insignificant difference was reported regarding the pain intensity, disturbance in jaw function, maximum inter-incisal opening, range in jaw movement, and joint noise. CONCLUSION: It may be concluded from the results of this study that a computer guided patient specific arthrocentesis guide based on a preoperative CT-scan is a reliable and reproducible method for accurate and more robust conduction of the arthrocentesis procedure with minimal modifications and low complication rate.","PeriodicalId":7723,"journal":{"name":"Alexandria Dental Journal","volume":" 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138611520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

OBJECTIVES: This study compared the influence of high-speed sintering, speed sintering and conventional sintering on monolithic zirconia regarding bi-axial flexural strength, phase transformation and dimensional changes after sintering. METHODS: Thirty six monolithic zirconia disc specimens were prepared with the dimensions 12mm x 1.5mm and categorized into 3 groups (n=12) based on the sintering technique: High-speed sintering (HS: 1580 °C, total time is approximately 10 minutes) Speed sintering (SS: 1515 °C, total time is approximately 90 minutes), and Conventional sintering (CS, 1500 °C, total time is approximately 10 h). The ball on ring design was used to determine biaxial flexural strength (BFS). Dimensional changes after sintering was evaluated by digital micrometer (with an accuracy of 0.001 mm). The specimen's crystallography was investigated by x-ray diffraction technique (XRD). RESULTS: All groups exhibited a uniform sintering shrinkage of about 20% in all dimensions. Crystallographic analysis revealed only tetragonal and cubic characteristic peaks. BFS test results showed statistically insignificant difference between conventional (1105.5 ± 55.85MPa), speed (1078.3 ± 56.22 MPa), and high speed (1050.6±53.42 MPa) sintering cycles (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: Speed and high speed cycles can be recommended for sintering of monolithic zirconia in order to reduce fixed prosthetic restoration fabrication times as the changes they induced were within the clinically acceptable ranges .","PeriodicalId":7723,"journal":{"name":"Alexandria Dental Journal","volume":" 20","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138615717","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

MATERIALS AND METHODS: Three asymptomatic patients presented with traumatized immature necrotic permanent maxillary central incisors with periapical lesions (>7mm) requiring tooth restoration. Teeth responded negatively to percussion, palpation and to both thermal and electric pulp testing. Local anesthesia without vasoconstrictor was given and access cavities were prepared. A single visit regeneration protocol was applied including an irrigation sequence with 20 ml of 2.5% sodium hypochlorite, sterile saline (10 mL), 20 ml of 17% Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), and finally sterile saline (10 mL). A # 20 K-file was used 2mm beyond the apical foramen to evoke bleeding. Biodentine (Septodont, France) was used as the cervical plug. Glass ionomer was flowed over the capping material then composite resin restoration was accomplished. After 12 months, clinical and radiographic outcomes were assessed using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and periapical radiographs. RESULTS: At the end of follow up, two cases were asymptomatic. One case presented with a sinus tract and chronic apical abscess. CBCT analysis revealed thinning of the apical diameter, root thickening and lengthening. The periapical radiolucency decreased in two cases and increased in one. The teeth presented no response to thermal or electric pulp testing. CONCLUSION: Single-visit regenerative endodontic therapy may present questionable clinical and radiographic outcomes for treatment of necrotic immature permanent teeth. Further clinical studies are needed to validate its efficacy.","PeriodicalId":7723,"journal":{"name":"Alexandria Dental Journal","volume":"109 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138608778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Piezoelectric scaffolds are a type of smart material introduced for various biomedical uses such as repair and regeneration of bone tissue. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of piezoelectric plates in the regeneration of bone and healing of the segmental bone defect in the rat mandible in order to compare their effect with titanium plates. Materials and Methods: Forty eight rats weighing 275±30 grams were divided into 2 groups: group I; (titanium group), group II; (PVDF poly(vinylidene fluoride) group). Surgical procedures to place the plates were performed in both groups. After first week twenty four of the rats were euthanized and after eight weeks twenty four the rest of rats were euthanized the mandibles were dissected out and prepared for radiographic examination, light microscopic examination and histomorphometry. RESULTS: Radiographic results showed radio-opacity in the site of the bone defect in both groups Histological results revealed new bone trabeculae in the both groups, however, bone was more dense and mature in the titanium groups. The histomorphometric analysis also showed substantially higher percentage of new bone per field in the titanium groups. CONCLUSIONS: piezoelectric plates could enhance bone healing and be used as a mean of achieving good fixation but still the results were inferior to the results of titanium plates.","PeriodicalId":7723,"journal":{"name":"Alexandria Dental Journal","volume":"26 16","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138624851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, using two un-splinted implants assisted overdenture to overcome the retention problem. But still Acrylic material has problems; such as lowers impact, fatigue strengths, and fracture. Reinforcement of acrylic denture base to avoid fracture by a variety of materials such as; Metal reinforcement, fillers like carbon fiber, and Poly-Ether-Ether-Ketone (PEEK) is frequently utilized in dentistry and is seen as a viable alternative to traditional materials. AIM OF THE STUDY : Compare between Two different denture base reinforcement materials (CoCr) and (PEEK) in comparison to acrylic denture base on strain around two implant-assisted mandibular overdenture and on ridge area. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 3 epoxy models were used with two implants placed at the canine region. 8 mandibular overdenture were constructed for each group; (group A) Acrylic overdenture without reinforcement, for (group B) and (group c) acrylic overdenture were reinforcement by (CoCr, PEEK) respectively. Six linear strain gauges were used at the mesial and distal of each implant, and under the lower second molars bilaterally. Strain measurements were taken under central and unilateral loading around the two implants and on the ridge regions. RESULTS: No significant difference between all groups upon application of central load 100N on ridges. However, group C showed lower strain values upon application of central and unilateral loading 100N. CONCLUSION: PEEK reinforcement material showed less strain values with favorable stress distribution when compared to Acrylic and cobalt chromium reinforcement material for implant-assisted mandibular overdenture.","PeriodicalId":7723,"journal":{"name":"Alexandria Dental Journal","volume":"19 S2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138621206","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
