A critical driver of civic honesty is the relationship of trust between individuals and institutions. Research has yet to systematically assess the contextual factors that may moderate this relationship. In this study, we examined the societal influence of organized criminal groups. Criminal groups operate as alternative systems of authority that erode the reliability of institutions' moral standards. We employed a new indicator that quantifies their societal influence to test the hypothesis that the association between individuals' political trust and civic honesty would weaken in countries more strongly affected by criminal groups. Multilevel evidence across 83 representative national samples (<i>N</i> = 128,839) supported this hypothesis. Moreover, the association between political trust and civic honesty was negative in contexts where criminal groups' influence was more extreme. We discuss the implications of the findings and future research directions.</p>","PeriodicalId":73281,"journal":{"name":"IEEE electromagnetic compatibility magazine","volume":"2 1","pages":"439-449"},"PeriodicalIF":5.7,"publicationDate":"2024-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10984803/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84512675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Consequently, the loads that are connected in the electricity grid change from conventional linear loads towards non-linear time-variant loads, which are usually more energy efficient. This has resulted in many conducted electromagnetic interference problems, of which the interference on static energy meters is an impactful case as it can result in higher energy bills for consumers. This issue occurs when highly pulsed loads are connected to the static energy meter. For example, coming from a commercial off-the-shelf water pump, where errors up to 2675% are found, or from switching multimedia equipment resulting in a power generation of more than 600 W without any power generating equipment connected. Therefore, this article compares the interference waveforms with the waveforms as included in the relevant directives and standards. It is found that the test standards only cover frequency domain test methods, while the interference waveforms are more wide-band. Furthermore, those test methods do not cover the wide variety of waveforms that occur in the residential environment were the static energy meter is placed in.","PeriodicalId":73281,"journal":{"name":"IEEE electromagnetic compatibility magazine","volume":"12 1","pages":"59-68"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"62489659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To understand the mechanism of this technique is essential for its applications and popularization. To this end, this paper reveals the fundamentals and terminal configuration principles to realize various functional electromagnetic integration units with FMLF technique. A regular FMLF winding is taken as the research object, from theoretical analyses on the associated distributed electromagnetic component (DEMC) circuits, the lumped electromagnetic component (LEMC) circuits with different terminal configuration modes are derived. Moreover, A FMLF winding prototype is built for experimental verifications. The LEMC circuits are demonstrated through the comparative analyses between practically measured and LTspice based simulated impedances or port characteristics.","PeriodicalId":73281,"journal":{"name":"IEEE electromagnetic compatibility magazine","volume":"12 1","pages":"47-61"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"62489826","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Employing the DC blocking capacitors may seem straightforward, but as operating frequency increases, it can be a challenge to select the right capacitor value due to signal integrity, loss, and reflection issues. The impact of the DC blocking capacitor on the performance of RF circuits has been well studied, but not so for its effects during an ESD event. The first paper, “Investigating the Effect of the DC Block Capacitor on Residual Current in a System-Level ESD-Protected Circuit”, investigates the relation between the residual current and DC blocking capacitor value during the ESD event so that the optimal capacitance can be calculated.","PeriodicalId":73281,"journal":{"name":"IEEE electromagnetic compatibility magazine","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135182115","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
