Stationary stochastic data are characterized optimally by the parameters of a time series model, if model type and model order are known in advance. Recently, a new development in time series analysis gives the possibility to select automatically, with statistical criteria, the model type and the model order for data with unknown characteristics. Hence, the statistically significant features of measured data can be determined without a priori knowledge. This creates the possibility to use estimated and selected models for the automatic monitoring of stochastic data and for the detection of changes. The paper describes variations that can be detected. It shows that considering a measured signal as a stationary stochastic process is already sufficient a priori information to use a powerful statistical framework for the accurate description of observations and for the automatic detection of changes.","PeriodicalId":68878,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Measurement Science and Instrumentation","volume":"64 1","pages":"1548-1553 vol.3"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82358814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The films were deposited on alumina and single crystal silicon substrates. SEM characterization has shown the formation of a well-developed crystal stucture for the SG film and a porous morphology for the RF when annealed at 800/spl deg/C. The MoO/sub 3/-TiO/sub 2/ thin films gas sensing properties to NO/sub 2/ and CO has been investigated. The RF and SG fabricated MoO/sub 3/-TiO/sub 2/ possess different gas sensing properties attributed to the fabrication and resulting morphological difference of the thin films. The SG films had a response of 1.75 to 25 ppm of CO and 2.8 to 2 ppm of NO/sub 2/, while the RF films had a response of 1.5 to 30 ppm of CO and a response of 2 to 3 ppm of NO/sub 2/.","PeriodicalId":68878,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Measurement Science and Instrumentation","volume":"53 1","pages":"425-428 vol.1"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82749885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

More specifically, the performance of a proposed multi-electrode sensor system, used for voltammetric analysis of aqueous samples, is described. It is, for example, shown how such an \"electronic tongue\" can be used to monitor the quality of water in a production plant for drinking water. It is pointed out that conventional techniques often determine single concentration of the measured test while in many areas of measurement technology the methodology to extract adequate information from the environment, e.g., the electronic tongue, makes a total water quality estimate based on predetermined constraints extracted from complicated pattern structures. In this approach, experiments are conducted using an electronic tongue to virtually monitor the drinking water quality, measured from the raw water in the river to the tap water of the consumer. It can be shown that a system based on the proposed multi-electrode virtual sensor system is able to detect water quality changes. In these experiments, with the use of signal analysis and statistical multivariate methods we are able to estimate the water quality.","PeriodicalId":68878,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Measurement Science and Instrumentation","volume":"7 1","pages":"1320-1324 vol.2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87872834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They do not exploit secondary physical properties of the specific liquid such as fluid velocity and fluid density in the measuring process but directly exploit the primary property inertia to measure mass flow. However, there is some evidence from field applications that the devices, in particular those using a single straight pipe, suffer from parameter variation. Therefore, the flowmeter has to be carefully adjusted with respect to physical properties of the liquid, operating conditions and site installation. When modeling the CMF using two oscillatory systems referring to the first and second mode, the mass flow enforces the coupling of these oscillatory systems. In the ideal case the coupling is only affected by the mass flow. Detailed analysis however reveals, that asymmetries in installation, sensors, actuators as well as pipe-inhomogeneities heavily contribute to this coupling and thus lead to a parameter variation. In the paper a model-based-approach is presented to identify the parameters of the model using an auxiliary excitation of the system.","PeriodicalId":68878,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Measurement Science and Instrumentation","volume":"54 1","pages":"1231-1236 vol.2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86802045","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our primary task is to find positions of potential indications within signals and the secondary task is to calculate optimal boundaries of indications with respect to their future use in the process of classification. The contribution concentrates on the choice of suitable wavelet function and parameters of localization algorithm. The basic result of this algorithm is a vector of positions of indications within the signal. Use of multiresolution wavelet analysis implies a possibility to calculate optimal boundaries of found indications. The selected algorithm and its parameters were compared using real records of steam generator tubes and artificial defects and imitations of construction elements as well.","PeriodicalId":68878,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Measurement Science and Instrumentation","volume":"131 1","pages":"392-396 vol.1"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79157380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The advantages of aliasing-free space compaction over earlier techniques are evidently clear-zero-aliasing is achieved without any modifications of the CUT, the area overhead and signal propagation delay are relatively less compared to conventional parity tree linear compactors, and the approach used works equally well with both deterministic and pseudorandom test sets.","PeriodicalId":68878,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Measurement Science and Instrumentation","volume":"221 1","pages":"198-203 vol.1"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76730675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, the authors have developed a holographic pattern measuring system (HPMS) which can draw a 3D graphic image pattern of a vibrating surface. However, in the present HPMS, the fringe pattern data must be obtained manually with a digitizer, which consumes much time and is inefficient. In this study, to resolve this problem in the HPMS, the authors introduced a digital still camera to perform extraction accurately and improve the fringe pattern extraction process from the holographic interferograms.","PeriodicalId":68878,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Measurement Science and Instrumentation","volume":"32 2 1","pages":"1060-1064 vol.2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83474985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such materials are being investigated by the electronic industry in response to the growing need for efficient integrated power-ground decoupling capacitance in microwave circuits and fast switching devices. In order to extend the dielectric measurements to the microwave range, we developed an appropriate expression for the input admittance of a thin film capacitance terminating a coaxial line. The theoretical model treats the capacitance as a distributed network and takes into consideration the wave propagation in the specimen section. The dielectric permittivity of several high dielectric constant materials for decoupling capacitance applications was evaluated at frequencies of 100 MHz to 10 GHz, and the corresponding impedance characteristics were determined directly in time domain. Polymer resins filled with ferroelectric ceramics showed low impedance values and flat impedance characteristics over a broad frequency range, which makes these materials attractive for power-ground decoupling applications in high-speed electronic circuits.","PeriodicalId":68878,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Measurement Science and Instrumentation","volume":"55 1","pages":"1000-1004 vol.2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86180476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
