It investigates power decoupling methods to better attenuate the ripple power by filtration. Lead-acid battery and supercapacitor are used to form a hybrid energy storage system and are connected to a common DC grid through bi-directional DC-DC converters. Battery converter can absorb low frequency power variations while the high frequency power variations can be absorbed by supercapacitor converter. Battery supplies the long term power demand and supercapacitor responds to the short term power fluctuations during transient process in this proposed method. For the reduction of ripple power in the battery, this paper discusses the insertion of high order low/high pass filters for battery and supercapacitor converters instead of lower order low/high pass filters. The effectiveness of the proposed concept is shown through simulation and experimental results.","PeriodicalId":6857,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (IPEMC-ECCE Asia)","volume":"52 1","pages":"1747-1753"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75005201","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on these studies, a new dc power flow controller based on dual active bridge (DAB) topology is proposed accordingly in this paper. Compared with existing literatures, the proposed dc power flow controller is able to control the bi-directional power flow of the dc transmission line without requiring any external power supplies. PSCAD/EMTDC software simulations are carried out on a two-terminal double-line voltage source converter (VSC) based dc grid including with the proposed dc power flow controller. Furthermore, the corresponding experimental verification is undertaken using a scale-down prototype of the proposed dc power flow controller. The simulation and experimental results under various operation conditions show that the proposed dc power flow controller can effectively control the dc power flow as defined.","PeriodicalId":6857,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (IPEMC-ECCE Asia)","volume":"90 1","pages":"2609-2614"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77975678","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditionally, LC passive filters can be employed to mitigate the pulse-width modulation (PWM) generated current harmonics in the audible noise range. However, the bulky passive filters contribute to additional volume and cannot effectively eliminate harmonics at low switching frequency. In this paper, an active output filter (AOF) is proposed to replace passive filters to achieve higher power density and lower acoustic noise. The proposed AOF can be envisioned as a power semiconductor filter block and is implemented by the harmonic injection strategy, which can compensate voltage/current harmonics at the arbitrary frequency. Advanced wide-band gap devices can be employed in AOF to achieve low power loss and high switching frequency. Experimental results from a 2/3 horsepower ASD prototype verifies the advantages of the proposed AOF.","PeriodicalId":6857,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (IPEMC-ECCE Asia)","volume":"24 1","pages":"3646-3653"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74656037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In general, to meet the hold-up time conditions, the conventional asymmetrical half-bridge (AHB) converter operates in wide-input-voltage range. Wide-input-voltage range design makes converter suffered from severe asymmetric operation under the nominal operation, which increases the DC-offset current in the transformer, size of the transformer, and unbalance of the voltage stresses of the secondary rectifiers. On the other hand, the proposed converter can reduce the DC-offset current in the transformer and relieve the unbalanced voltage stresses of the secondary rectifiers under the nominal operation by changing transformer turns-ratio with an auxiliary switch and capacitor. Therefore, the proposed converter can achieve high efficiency. The validity of the proposed converter is confirmed by experimental results from a prototype with 330-400V input, 300W/12V output.","PeriodicalId":6857,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (IPEMC-ECCE Asia)","volume":"112 1","pages":"2249-2253"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73001436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) topology is widely used to achieve medium voltage operation and low harmonic distortion, simultaneously. Each power cell of CHB should have the isolated DC link voltage by using input transformer and rectifier. Instead of three phase Active Front-End (AFE) which is mostly used, using single phase AFE could make the structure of input transformer and power cell be simple. However, even in the same three phase windings of the input transformer, the DC link voltage of each single phase AFE might be different due to the power imbalance of each phase. In this paper, DC link voltage balancing control method that uses the negative sequence voltage of converter is described. The proposed method is verified with experimental results. The DC link voltage of each AFE has been controlled within 1% error of its reference value.","PeriodicalId":6857,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (IPEMC-ECCE Asia)","volume":"13 1","pages":"3043-3049"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79251468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
