In competition with the traditional transformer, the winning argument of the ST can be the grid services, while the system needs to be designed for the targets of high efficiency, high reliability and high availability. This work proposes a modular ST design, which uses power semiconductors rated for lower current and voltage for high efficiency, while the reliability and the availability are targeted by directly routing the power within the modular system. An overview is given on promising modular ST architectures and the concept of power routing for improved reliability is presented.","PeriodicalId":6857,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (IPEMC-ECCE Asia)","volume":"942 1","pages":"3241-3248"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77565826","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A composite control strategy is adopted to estimate and compensate the mismatched lumped disturbances via a nonlinear disturbance observer. An active uncertainty attenuation controller is constructed by means of the backstepping recursive design method combined with Lyapunov stability theory to control the DC bus voltage. The rigorous stability analysis and numerical simulation results demonstrate that the DC bus voltage can track its desired value in a satisfactory precision and will perform a strong robustness against the involved parameters variations.","PeriodicalId":6857,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (IPEMC-ECCE Asia)","volume":"37 1","pages":"1382-1388"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81200965","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a two-stage bidirectional power converter made up of T-type neutral point clamped (NPC) three-phase three-level (TL) AC/DC and dual active bridge (DAB) DC/DC is studied, And the direct power control strategy is adopted to accept power dispatching from power grid. With high reliability, efficiency and high power quality as the goal, a novel space vector modulation (SVPWM) is proposed to avoid the terminal voltage distortion of bridge legs, and the series-parallel-connection DAB converter is presented to further improve efficiency. Finally, experimental results verify the feasibility of circuit topology and control strategy.","PeriodicalId":6857,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (IPEMC-ECCE Asia)","volume":"37 1","pages":"2709-2713"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84774548","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Distributed maximum power point tracking can increase the overall efficiency. A module level and a string level sub-module integrated maximum power point trackers are presented in this thesis. The module level version is supposed to be applied for high power PV modules. For low power PV modules or strings, the string level trackers are recommended. The application cost of the string level MPP trackers is limited by mounting the size minimized synchronous buck converters directly into the junction boxes on the back of the PV panels. Two steps hill climbing method is applied to track the MPP of each sub-module by sampling and maximizing the output voltage of each sub-module. The global MPP relies on the inherent MPP tracking function of the output side connected inverter. Through the simulation of the system built in Simulink, the feasibility is verified fist. Then the performance of proposed architecture is tested through experiment.","PeriodicalId":6857,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (IPEMC-ECCE Asia)","volume":"73 1","pages":"928-932"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89817649","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analyzed MLI's topology is made of using four series-connected capacitors paralleled by single dc power supply besides three bi-directional and four unidirectional power switches. Regarding the proposed method, in order to keep the across voltage of capacitors at the expected value, two operating switching modes (main and auxiliary modes) based on fundamental switching frequency are defined in which they are applied to the gate of power switches for a specific time duration and therefore they can obviate the discharging problem without aiming any extra charge balancing circuits or complicated modulation strategy. Several simulation results based on MATLAB/SIMULINK software are given to confirm the correct performance of proposed method.","PeriodicalId":6857,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (IPEMC-ECCE Asia)","volume":"12 1","pages":"3791-3796"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91361238","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Voltage source converter (VSC) based DC grid technology has become a preferred technical scheme because of its inherent advantages, such as flexible bi-directional DC power control capability. However, VSC based DC grid is also facing many operation control and protection problems to be solved, especially the problem of fault protection for the DC grid. This paper first analyzed the fault characteristics of the DC grid, and then through a typical DC grid configuration, a zone protection strategy is proposed with the objective of using a minimum number of DCCBs. The simulation results using MATLAB/Simulink platform show that the zone protection strategy is feasible and effective.
