Because of a backlog of testing, customer requirements for extended life of friction materials, and demand for larger clutches and brakes, The Clutch manufacture decided that the throughput and capacity of their existing 1500HP test stand needed to be doubled. The existing test stand utilized a 1500HP Variable frequency drive (VFD) and motor to: performance test and burnish brakes for customers, run static and dynamic load changes on clutches and brakes for research and development, and for customer specific applications. The existing VFD and motor were to remain and be re-used. A second identical VFD and motor would be added, and both would be connected to a combining gearbox. Each VFD and motor can test a single 1500HP brake, or both VFDs systems can be combined to run a single 3000HP brake. The upgrade of the test stand offers an opportunity to examine the application considerations (closed loop and torque control), installation considerations (harmonics and environmental), and operation considerations (dynamic load changes and master-follower control) of large VFD systems and clutch/brake performance.","PeriodicalId":67291,"journal":{"name":"中国石油和化工(企业版)","volume":"2 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81809327","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data are transmitted at protection speeds and must be dependable for industrial power system operation and maintenance applications. The redundant electric power system Ethernet communications network is used for a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system that automates industrial electric power system operations. Within individual substations as well as between substations, communications based on IEC 61850 protocols eliminate copper control wiring, which results in reduced cost, construction time, commissioning time, and wiring errors and makes future upgrades simpler. A fast load-shedding system uses the same communications network to stabilize system frequency in response to a loss of generation by detecting the events that lead to a power deficit and automatically responding by shedding load to balance generation and load in less than 40 milliseconds. This paper focuses on integrating three major electrical control systems at a refinery onto one Ethernet network: a SCADA system for controlling and monitoring operations, a peer-to-peer high-speed communications-assisted protection scheme, and a fast load-shedding system.","PeriodicalId":67291,"journal":{"name":"中国石油和化工(企业版)","volume":"48 1","pages":"1-9"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80430284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there can be complications to substation grounding designs. This paper discusses two case studies where a ground fault in one substation generates a voltage which is transferred to other areas. The issues are assessed using common software tools supplemented with simple spreadsheet calculations. Some common limitations of the standard software tools, when applied to these more complex problems, are discussed in this paper, along with appropriate work-arounds. Mitigation methods are discussed.","PeriodicalId":67291,"journal":{"name":"中国石油和化工(企业版)","volume":"50 1","pages":"1-8"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75812363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the turn insulation in such machines will eventually degrade and puncture due to thermal aging, load cycling and/or contamination. Although turn shorts do not directly lead to machine failure, they can lead to high bearing vibration, may damage synchronizing systems within brushless motors and may limit output. Off-line tests are available to detect rotor winding shorted turns, however they may be unreliable since the rotor is not spinning for the test and if only a few shorts are present, the shorts may disappear once the rotor is spinning (or vice versa). With funding from the US Electric Power Research Institute, a new type of on-line magnetic flux test has been developed that is suitable for salient pole machines, and in particular the salient pole rotors in 4 (or more) pole hydrogenerators and synchronous compressor motors that are widely used for air separation. The test requires retrofitting a small magnetic flux probe to the stator core and instrumentation to interpret the small voltage signals that are measured from the probe.","PeriodicalId":67291,"journal":{"name":"中国石油和化工(企业版)","volume":"7 1","pages":"1-7"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77265647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also presents a broad approach that considers the total electrical system configuration and design. No one technology can address all safety concerns. Current available technologies for reducing arc flash hazard such as optical light detection, pressure detection, temperature detection, and current signatures are discussed and advantages and disadvantages of each technique are outlined. An analysis is presented of how a total system approach can optimize benefits of various technologies by utilizing complementary technologies, such as impedance grounding, equipment construction, and operational techniques. The importance of the fundamental power system configuration selection, equipment design aspects, and maintenance is also discussed.","PeriodicalId":67291,"journal":{"name":"中国石油和化工(企业版)","volume":"11 1","pages":"1-10"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90457417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Periodic testing of electrical equipment leads to a safe and reliable operation. Electrical apparatus, including switchgear, motor control centers (MCC) and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) must be de-energized periodically and taken out of service for maintenance testing, repairs or installation of additional sections to accommodate growth. The process is lengthy, with planning starting years in advance to prepare for extensive inspection and testing activities. This paper discusses the experience, findings and lessons learned at one petrochemical facility during a 70 day operational turnaround. Significant investments were made in purchasing temporary power equipment and hiring numerous electrical speciality contractors to perform maintenance testing of electrical equipment in nine substations, including 9 secondary selective automatic transfer switchgear line-ups, 67 LV MCC's and 13 UPS's. The journey covers temporary power plans, testing plans, operational issues, reporting, backfeed connections, component upgrades due to manufacturer product safety advisories, equipment repairs, inspection findings, relay firmware upgrades, training of personnel, isolation, switching, grounding plans, guarantee of isolation documentation, electrical personal protective equipment (PPE), testing equipment, and communications plans to advise of power outages.","PeriodicalId":67291,"journal":{"name":"中国石油和化工(企业版)","volume":"215 1","pages":"1-10"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80119423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From the economic point of view, the consequences due to direct and indirect costs can be extremely high. There are various options to prevent arcing faults, but faults cannot be totally eliminated. This is why several approaches to mitigate the consequences of arcing faults have been introduced. Several manufacturers have started to produce arc flash protection relays based on optical detection of light energy from an arc. In most applications, the light information is confirmed by overcurrent information before a trip command is initiated to an upstream current breaking device. The tripping of a circuit breaker, for instance, occurs in only a few milliseconds. This seems to be the state-of-the-art technology, leading in most cases to very reasonable incident energy levels. However, it is essential to be able to minimize not only the thermal impact but the pressure wave as well. This paper investigates technology aimed at maximal protection.","PeriodicalId":67291,"journal":{"name":"中国石油和化工(企业版)","volume":"321 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76764524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
