Furthermore, the unwanted vibration and cavitation due to the overlooking a detail calculation of the propeller should be prohibited for increasing the fuel efficiency and life-span of the propeller. In the last few decades, most of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) focusing their work on ship component industry in Central Java Province Indonesia provide the marine propeller to the ship manufacturer and ship repairmen in some shipyards in northern part of Central Java port. The design of the propeller is never been observed and optimized. The aim of the present work is to redesign the installed propeller on a wooden fishing boat with the new optimized design using B-Series propeller theory approach. The reverse engineering method uses three-dimensional scanner to obtain the geometrical data of the installed ship propeller. The new optimized propeller design is obtained from free software calculation based on the boat and engine specification. The comparison shows that the new optimized propeller design has a wider blade and larger pitch and increases 20% of the open water efficiency of the propeller performance at lower engine rotation. \u0000Keywords: B-series design, fishing boat, marine propeller, redesign, optimization","PeriodicalId":59401,"journal":{"name":"海洋渔业","volume":"26 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90292751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Stability of the vessel plays an important role in performing safely and successfully fishing operations. A brand new 30 GT purse seiner, production of a traditional shipyard in Batang Regency, experienced 15o heel after its launch. This condition potentially affects the stability of the vessel. The purpose of the study is to analyze the vessel stability and improve existing stability by adding outriggers. Research was conducted in two phases, data collection in the research site and stability analysed using a naval architecture software. The vessel stability was analyzed in six loading scenarios following the fishing operation process, subsequently the stability was compared against IMO standard. Results show that with the existing design, the vessel does not meet IMO criteria for the most applied scenarios. Next step, outriggers were added in both sides of the vessel model, as an effort to improve its stability. Accordingly, it is revealed that outriggers addition is scientifically proven to improve the stability of the studied vessel. As this research merely focused on the stability improvement, further analysis regarding maneuverability is required given a purse seiner operates encircled fishing gear. \u0000Keywords: outrigger, purse seiner, stability","PeriodicalId":59401,"journal":{"name":"海洋渔业","volume":"54 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85589878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research was conducted in March to September 2019. Data was collected from trap and bottom gillnet fishing by using a purposive sampling method on a monthly basis. Bycatch was categorized into two groups, namely economically valuable and discarded, according to the local fishers’ perception. Information was presented both spatially and temporally. The results show that bycatch consists of 66 species including 41 economically valuable and 26 discarded species. Indices of diversity, evenness and dominance of fish were also discussed to describe the ecological conditions. This commodity is highly valued, as its price range from Rp. 143,600 to 180,700 for each individual. Annually, the total catches constitute 125,000-225,000 individuals, which become one of export commodities to various countries. In Tanjung Jabung barat, the mantis shrimp has been caught by using gillnet with mesh size of 10 cm. Unfortunately, mantis shrimp fishing deal with a significant number of bycatch and discards, which potentially have negative impact on sustainable fisheries resources. Therefore, the purposes of this study was to emphasis on sustainable fishing effort of mantis shrimp and identify the composition and proportion of bycatch and discards. A series of surveys was conducted for collecting the amount of species caught by gillnet during mantis shrimp fishing operation. The result shows that the bycatch and discards dominated the total catches making up to 54.99% (7 species) and 22.69% (7 species) respectively. As a means of production, the boat should meet various conditions of seaworthiness i.e. good stability, good seakeeping ability and minimum resistance. This study investigates the effect of the boat dimension and the hull form on the stability, resistance and seekeeping ability. Various sizes and hull shapes of a 20 GT fishing boat were simulated, and their performances were compared to the IMO standard. The results suggest that the minimum breadth (B) - draft (d) ratio which meets the stability criterion is 2.50, while the ratio of the center of gravity distance from the keel (KG) and the depth (D) of the boat is 0.65. Furthermore, for the boat with a higher B and D ratio, its resistance is relatively smaller. Consequently, most of owners decline the later result as it goes higher and has impact on operational cost. Regarding that problem, this paper investigates the GT calculation process in Indonesia.
