It is most common in young children under 5 years of age and adolescents. The definite diagnosis of rhabdomyosarcoma is based on histology and the positivity of striated muscle markers in immuno-histochemistry. Our objective was to describe the prognostic characteristics of RMS diagnosed in Dakar. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This was a retrospective and descriptive study spread over nine (09) years from 1 January 2011 to 31 December 2019. It was conducted from the histological report archives of the anatomy and pathology laboratories of Dakar. Paraffin blocks were reread and immunohistochemically studied by manual method. Antidesmin and antimyogenin antibodies were used. RESULTS: We collected 44 patients with rhabdomyosarcoma out of 228 cases of soft tissue cancers, i.e. 19.29% of all malignant soft tissue tumours. The mean age of the patients was 25.41 ± 23.95 (standard deviation) years with a median age of 16 years and extremes of 6 months and 81 years. Patients were less than or equal to 17 years of age in 61.4% was statistically significant (p = 0.039). A relationship was also observed between histological type and site (p = 0.026). According to the American IRS classification, the tumour was classified as group I in 41% of cases, group II in 50% of cases and groups III and IV in 4.5% each. CONCLUSION: Rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare malignant tumour in Dakar. It is often a voluminous tumour of the limbs which affects mainly males. The embryonal type is the most frequent histological form.","PeriodicalId":57444,"journal":{"name":"病理学期刊(英文)","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70495286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Sydney System is the most widely used classification of this disease but it does not allow a ranking of patients according to the evolutionary potential of the disease, unlike the classifications: “Operative Link On Gastritis Assessment” (OLGA) and “Operative Link on Gastritis Intestinal Metaplasia Assessment” (OLGIM). Our goals are to apply and evaluate the three classifications: the Sydney System, OLGA and OLGIM and to draw possible correlations. This is a retrospective, descriptive, single-center study performed on all cases of chronic gastritis, diagnosed at the laboratory of Pathological Anatomy Unit of Joseph Ravoahangy Andrianavalona University Hospital from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2017. A review and application of the three main classification systems was performed on each case. We included 298 cases. The mean age was 50.85 years. The sex ratio was 1.48. The high-risk stages according to the “Operative Link On Gastritis Assessment” (OLGA) system and the “Operative Link on Gastritis Intestinal Metaplasia Assessment” (OLGIM) system were 0.67% and 2.68%, respectively. We observed a correlation between the two systems with discordance of 5%. The use of the two new systems allows the assessment of the progressive potential of gastritis in patients at risk of developing gastric cancer. For optimal effectiveness of both classifications, biopsies should be performed according to the Sydney System recommendations.","PeriodicalId":57444,"journal":{"name":"病理学期刊(英文)","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70495289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Egypt, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the second most common cancer in men and the 6th most common cancers in women. Egypt has the highest prevalence of HCV in the world and the prevalence of HCC is increasing in the last years. Nowadays, HCV infection and its complications are among the leading public health challenges in Egypt with 13.8% of population infected and, in these patients, the risk of HCC is increased 17-fold. Glypican-3 (GPC3) is a member of heparin sulfate proteoglycan family which is linked to cell surface. It plays an important role in regulation of cell growth, differentiation, and migration. It is normally expressed in fetal liver and placenta but not in normal adult liver tissue. 8-Hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) is an oxidatively modified promutagenic DNA that is produced by oxygen radicals and is recognized as a useful marker in estimating DNA damage induced by oxidative stress. The present work is a retrospective, cross-sectional, study performed on 150 liver paraffin blocks that included 100 cases of chronic hepatitis C and 50 cases of hepatocellular carcinoma. These cases were collected from the Pathology Department. The 100 cases of chronic hepatitis C were graded into low grade chronic hepatitis (58) cases and high-grade chronic hepatitis (42) cases, 30 patients had cirrhosis, all in the high-grade group. The 50 cases of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) included 18 cases of well-differentiated HCC (grade I), 22 cases of moderately differentiated HCC (grade II) and 10 cases of poorly differentiated HCC (grade III). Among 50 cases of HCC, 44 cases showed cirrhosis in the non-neoplastic liver tissue. There was a statistically significant difference in 8-OHdG index between chronic hepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma (P = 0.006).","PeriodicalId":57444,"journal":{"name":"病理学期刊(英文)","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42094285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

She was suspected of having a cervical spine tumor after surgery for cervical spine foraminal stenosis. After consent, the cervical spine tumor histologically diagnosed by an open biopsy was confirmed to be Ewing sarcoma (EWS) by genetic testing. EWS belongs to a group of small, round-cell tumors that are morphologically similar and often difficult to differentiate. After the open biopsy, the present patient received radiotherapy, and her plasma level of Pro-Gastrin-Releasing-Peptide was decreased (217.2 pg/ml before surgery to 30.3 pg/ml; reference value: 0 - 80 pg/ml). We herein report the process for making the final diagnosis by focusing on the intraoperative cytology, histopathology, and immunohistochemical findings. Our diagnosis was validated by karyotyping and a fluorescence in-situ hybridization analysis.","PeriodicalId":57444,"journal":{"name":"病理学期刊(英文)","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44572630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
