Furthermore, it can develop in the absence of any direct or indirect contact with infected animals, in cases when the microorganism is transmitted by a vector. These clinical entities are rare, and therefore often not easily recognized, yet many zoonotic illnesses are currently considered emerging or re-emerging in many regions. Focal zoonotic vector-borne lymphadenitis and its numerous causative agents, with their variegated clinical manifestations, have been described in some case reports and small case series. Therefore, we summarized those data in this narrative overview, with the aim of raising clinical awareness, which could improve clinical outcomes. This overview briefly covers reported pathogens, their vectors and geographic distribution, and their main clinical manifestations, diagnostic possibilities, and recommended therapy. Vector-borne tularemia, plague, bartonellosis, rickettsioses, borreliosis, and Malayan filariasis are mentioned. According to the existing data, when acute focal bacterial vector-borne zoonotic lymphadenitis is suspected, in severe or complicated cases it seems prudent to apply combined aminoglycoside (or quinolone) plus doxycycline as an empirical therapy, pending definite diagnostic results. Stroboscopic training enhances visual processing speed, reaction time, motor skill control, and cognitive abilities by challenging the brain to make quick decisions with limited visual information.</p><p><strong>Purpose: </strong>This study aimed to investigate the impact of stroboscopic visual conditions on the key performance aspects of elite athletes in curling to determine whether these effects can be leveraged in long-term training to enhance elite curling performance.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>This study involved the participation of 32 national-level male curling athletes (<i>n</i> = 32, age: 19.9 ± 2.2 years, height: 178.0 ± 6.2 cm, body mass: 71.9 ± 10.6 kg, and training age: 2.7 ± 0.9 years). A cross-over controlled experiment was conducted, with participants randomly assigned to either a stroboscopic-first group (<i>n</i> = 16) or a control-first group (<i>n</i> = 16). Each participant completed tests under both stroboscopic and normal visual conditions, including assessments of time perception error, speed control error, and curling accuracy. Paired sample t-tests were employed to analyse performance differences across conditions, and two-factor ANOVA was used to analyse sequence effects. Bonferroni post-hoc tests were used to compare differences if the main effect was significant. Cohen's <i>d</i> was used for two-group comparisons, whereas η<sub>p</sub><sup>2</sup> and Cohen's <i>f</i> were used for comparisons involving three or more groups.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>under stroboscopic conditions, participants experienced increased errors in time perception (<i>p</i> < 0.001, Cohen's <i>d</i> = 1.143), delivery speed control (<i>p</i> = 0.016, Cohen's <i>d</i> = 0.448), and reduced accuracy (<i>p</i> = 0.029, Cohen's <i>d</i> = 0.404). However, the associated radiation exposure of both patients and clinicians is a growing concern. This study aimed to compare radiation doses and fluoroscopy times between two techniques, i.e., oblique and posterior-anterior (PA) fluoroscopic approaches, while also examining the impact of physician experience on these metrics. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 180 patients treated at Mersin University Hospital Pain Clinic between January and July 2024. Patients were divided into two groups: 90 received the oblique technique (Group O) and 90 received the AP technique (Group A). Radiation dose and fluoroscopy time data were collected for each patient. The AP technique was associated with significantly lower radiation doses (mean 66 mGy) and shorter fluoroscopy times (mean 28 s) compared to the oblique technique (mean radiation dose of 109 mGy and fluoroscopy time of 46 s) (<i>p</i> < 0.001). Physician experience also influenced these outcomes, with more experienced physicians consistently using less radiation. However, recent studies demonstrated that these regions are not always used for certain tasks as predicted. This work determines the concordance between the actual region of lens use and compares it with the theoretically located regions. The pupil position of 26 subjects was recorded using an eye-tracking system (Tobii-Pro-Glasses 3) at distance and near-reading tasks while wearing a general use progressive power lens. Subjects were asked to read aloud a text showed on a screen placed at 5.25 m and 37 cm while looking though the central and lateral regions of the lens. The pupil position was projected onto the back surface of the lens to obtain the actual region of use for each fixation. Results showed that the actual region of use matched with the theoretically located. On average, the concordance between the actual and theoretical regions of use was 85% for a distance-reading task and 73% for a near-reading task. In conclusion, the proposed method effectively located the actual regions of the lens used, revealing how users' posture affects lens usage. Recent studies have pointed out its anxiolytic activity in vitro and in mouse models. Despite the effectiveness of developed anxiolytic drugs in the market, the potential side effects of these medications have led people to resort to traditional medicine such as <i>M. citrifolia.</i> However, evidence regarding its anti-anxiety characteristics is still lacking to this day. Hence, this preliminary study implemented combined network pharmacology and molecular docking to validate its anti-anxiety claims. This study highlighted the bioactive compounds of the <i>M. citrifolia</i> fruit part to have excellent absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity (ADMET) properties, particularly their outstanding oral bioavailability and blood-brain barrier penetration, both of which are essential considerations to ensure the effectiveness of anxiolytic drugs to arrive at the site of action. Moreover, noni fruit metabolites target genes involved in glutamatergic synapse pathways, which have been significantly associated with anxiety. Through molecular docking, selected compounds exhibited a strong binding affinity towards GRIA2 and PRKCA, both of which have connections with glutamatergic pathways. With all things considered, the results established that the noni fruit potentially contains therapeutic agents that elicit anti-anxiety potential. Therefore, methanolic extracts were obtained from each of the plants by the Soxhlet extraction. The hemolytic activity in human erythrocytes was evaluated, as was their potential to protect the erythrocyte membrane against the 2,2'-azobis (2-methylpropionamidine) dihydrochloride (AAPH) and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) radicals. Finally, the toxicity of the extracts in normal cell cultures of African green monkey kidney cells (Vero) and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) was determined by the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) reduction method. Most of the extracts showed low hemolytic activity and high anti-hemolytic activity as well as high selectivity indices (SI) and antioxidant effects. Extracts of <i>H. inuloides</i>, <i>J. dioica</i>, and <i>J. spicigera</i> induced cell proliferation of the Vero cells. <i>K. daigremontiana</i>, <i>A. adstringens</i>, <i>S. mexicanum</i>, <i>J. spicigera</i>, <i>L. tridentata</i>, and <i>M. tenuiflora</i> extracts showed PBMC cell proliferation. In the present study, it was observed that the evaluated extracts did not present hemolytic activity, and some presented low toxicity when Vero and PBMC cell cultures were exposed. However, there is a lack on studies investigating if DO exhibits higher cardiometabolic risk than non-dynapenic obesity. <b>Objectives:</b> To assess if individuals with DO exhibit elevated cardiometabolic risk compared to non-dynapenic obesity. <b>Methods:</b> a cross-sectional study that analyzed the data of workers from a quaternary care hospital collected between November 2018 and March 2020. Participants were stratified into the following anthropometrical and peripheral muscle strength profiles: non-obese/non-dynapenic (NOND), non-obese/dynapenic (NOD), obese/non-dynapenic (OND), and obese dynapenic (OD). However, there is currently no consensus on the optimal reconstructive approach. Postoperative venous thrombosis or stenosis can significantly increase patient morbidity or mortality. The objective of this study was to report the long-term patency rate of portal/superior mesenteric vein reconstruction, as well as to identify potential predictors of postoperative venous thrombosis/stenosis. A single-center retrospective cohort analysis was conducted on patients undergoing pancreatic resection due to pancreatic tumor. The patency of the vascular reconstruction was assessed by routine surveillance using computed tomographic imaging at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after surgery. A total of 297 pancreatic resections were performed with 53 patients undergoing concomitant venous resection. Among these, 26.4% (N = 14) had primary closure, 22.7% (N = 12) underwent an end-to-end anastomosis, and 50.9% (N = 27) received an interposition graft reconstruction. At the 1-year follow up, 90.2% (N = 37) of patients with venous reconstruction had a fully patent vein. The analysis did not reveal any statistically significant perioperative or postoperative factors associated with an increased risk of reconstruction thrombosis. In peritoneal dialysis (PD), OxSt and inflammation are even further increased compared to the already increased oxidative stress of their pre-dialysis phase. This is due to the high glucose-based solutions currently used, whose continuous contact with the peritoneal membrane can induce significant long-term morphological and functional changes (mesothelial to mesenchymal transition, thickening, neo-angiogenesis and fibrosis) of the peritoneal membrane. Oxidative stress plays a very important role in these processes, which may compromise the peritoneal dialysis procedure. There is, therefore, the need for more biocompatible dialysis fluids with polymers other than glucose to prevent and treat OxSt and inflammation. The most known and used of such glucose-free and more biocompatible peritoneal dialysis solutions is icodextrin, which has shown a protective effect from oxidative stress. This has supported the consideration of the use of glucose-free-based peritoneal dialysis fluids in order to reduce oxidative stress and improve peritoneal membrane survival. Studies investigating peritoneal dialysis with the use of osmo-metabolic agents (L-carnitine, xylitol and their combination) in peritoneal fluids replacing glucose-based fluids are, in fact, ongoing.
