This article analyzes only verse 3 : 4. It is referred to in both the catechumenal rites and during the baptism ceremony. This theme is particularly prevalent in the catechetical teachings of Theodore of Mospuestia (350–428). In the, he explains the process and theology of the sacrament of baptism and of the Eucharist. Piotra","authors":"Krzysztof Suszko","doi":"10.21906/RBL.241","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.21906/RBL.241","url":null,"abstract":"An analysis of this text reveals the two essential issues handled in the epistle: (1) the constant presence of the theme of God considered from the viewpoint of His glory and (2) an ultimate Christocentrism of all content references in the image of God. The word “glory” (δόξα) appears five times, always in key places of the inspired text under study. The epistle exposes the theology of faith from the aspects of knowledge and calling, so as to successively reveal the mystery of Jesus Christ being the Divine Person – in the context of the Divine Trinity – and, furthermore, to disclose His subsequent Christological titles leading to a complete revelation in the expression: “Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ” (κύριος ἡμῶν καὶ σωτήρ Ἰησοῦς Χριστός). Both of them have the important task of caring for the “sound principles” among their subordinates, for pure doctrine that does not wander among unimportant matters, showing the most essential aims of human life and for increasing faith in Christ and His kingdom. The text of this article has been divided into three parts dealing with the adjective “sound”: διδασκαλία – the entire moral teaching; λόγος – the words, by which the authentic truth of salvation is proclaimed; and πίστις, the belief that simultaneously transmits and inspires neighbors. This article can contribute to a better understanding of the importance of godparents in the development of the spiritual life of the baptized. In summary, one can draw some basic conclusions. Godparents are the guarantors and helpers in the development of faith and Catholic morality. Therefore, every candidate for the sacrament of baptism should have two godparents. In exceptional cases, just one godparent is enough. Mucha","doi":"10.21906/RBL.365","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.21906/RBL.365","url":null,"abstract":"The Gospel of Luke is addressed to “the most excellent Theophilus” (Łk 1, 3). “The- ophilus” was a high governmental Roman official. Both the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles are addressed to this “Theophilus.” It could be addressed to Theophilus him- self or to “dear to God” (“loved by God”), as the word “theophilus” means “dear to God” (“loved by God”). The proconsul of Cyprus, Sergius Paulus, was “the most excellent Theophilus” or “loved by God” or “dear to God.” It explains a lot about Luke’s writing style: not only is his Gre- ek diction unusually elevated for koine , but also he is extremely careful throughout both of his books not to offend Roman sensibilities. Roman characters are always portrayed favo- urably. Luke’s Pontius Pilate declares Jesus’ innocence three times and the scene where Ro- man soldiers mock Jesus and crown him with thorns is removed. Luke’s writing aimed at placing Christianity in a favourable light with Roman officials. He expected these works to be spread and widely circulated. The investigation and explanation of the Gospel light is the duty of the Church. This has a fundamental importance for the effectiveness of evangelization. The signs of time can be correlated directly with God’s initiative to save us. The sign of time can be considered the sign of God in which God’s freedom addresses our freedom, calling us to create history. God, thanks to the signs of time, not so much manifests his definite will, but rather directs us towards freedom. The signs of time show the direction of behaviour for the development of the world which is unanimous with the thought of God. They are God’s calls, which are directed towards men, therefore, recognizing the signs of time has mainly a practical dimen- sion, not a theoretical one.
