On the one hand, we have the Biblical texts conditioned by the times in which they were formed; on the other, we have the the modern reader, also conditioned by his or her times, wanting to live the Word of God. The fourth section of the Pontifical Biblical Commission’s 1994 The Interpretation of the Bible in the Church takes up this issue. The aim of this article is to analyze the statements of the document on actualization and to present the process as a new, special and hitherto insufficiently explored way to reference the message of the Bible to the life of believers today.","PeriodicalId":55679,"journal":{"name":"Ruch Biblijny i Liturgiczny","volume":"69 1","pages":"197-215"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68286470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After the sacrifices of children made to Molech, this area was cursed. The people began to throw garbage and dispose of the bodies of convicts there while unfading fire burnt them. Unpleasant and acrid smoke constantly hovered over this area. The teaching of Jesus of Nazareth changed the meaning of the term Gehenna. Jesus used it to bring people to the reality of damnation. He pointed to the need for one’s radical turning away from evil and sin in order to avoid this punishment. The valley of disgrace has become thus the image of eternal hell in Jesus’ preaching.","PeriodicalId":55679,"journal":{"name":"Ruch Biblijny i Liturgiczny","volume":"69 1","pages":"237-251"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68259206","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The faithful, desirous of a supernatural relationship with God, through their own life experience endeavor to actively translate into practice the mystery of Christ’s salvific grace. For this reason, the words pronounced by the person when first requesting the grace of any sacrament, either for themselves or on someone else’s behalf, find their full justification when repeated during the actual ceremony. Intentional request for the concession of any sacrament, which enables a personal participation of Christ’s grace, is a result of Christian faith, and activates a conscious and fruitful participation in the redeeming sacrifice of Christ.","PeriodicalId":55679,"journal":{"name":"Ruch Biblijny i Liturgiczny","volume":"6 1","pages":"99-123"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68267499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method is an indispensable tool of exegetic craft, but it has its limitations as well. It’s shortcomings of the historical-critical method that are presented and discussed one by one in the article, and they are the following: looking only for historical meaning of the text; pointing only to one dimension (the human one) of Holy Scriptures; lack of continuity as one of principles of the method; outcomes of the research being hypothetical. At the end of the article a dangerous discord between scientific research and study of theological meaning of texts is highlighted. Benedict XVI’s appeal to reinstate theological principles mentioned in the Dogmatic Constitution Dei Verbum and to link them with scientific principles was reminded of as well.","PeriodicalId":55679,"journal":{"name":"Ruch Biblijny i Liturgiczny","volume":"67 1","pages":"143-165"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68336302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The article discusses the problem of the Orthodox biblical canon and the main difficulties associated with the division between „canonical” and „non-canonical” books. Then the text presents specific elements of Orthodox biblical exegesis, with emphasis on the community of the Church as its primary context. The article also touches the problem of biblical language, and especially importance attached to the text of the Septuagint as well as critical evaluation of certain modern translations of the Bible by Orthodox theologians. The text reveals the elements of the Orthodox approach to the interpretation of the Bible that are valuable for all Christian theological traditions as well as the main theological problems related to it.","PeriodicalId":55679,"journal":{"name":"Ruch Biblijny i Liturgiczny","volume":"67 1","pages":"229-244"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68341180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
