A few dozen years after his relics had been brought to Cracow , a native patron – Saint Stanislaus- became a saint. Since then the cult of a foreign and unknown martyr deteriorated. The revival of Saint Florian’s cult was possible under the influence of Zbigniew Oleśnicki, a bishop who appointed him as patron saint of the whole Polish Kingdom, thus making him equally important as Saint Adalbert, Saint Stanislaus and Saint Waclaw. Since that time the liturgical cult of Saint Florian was of high significance, which can be certified by liturgical texts and formulas found in Cracow medieval breviaries. The analysis of their content leads to the conclusion that the older the breviaries, the fewer texts mentioning Saint Florian. The oldest breviaries contain only the liturgical collect referring to him. The newer ones are gradually enriched with the elements of choral liturgy and lessons originating from the legend about Saint Florian. This article presents a study of their occurrence in the four Gospels against the backdrop of the Old Testament. However, an analysis of the explicit references to bread and water is not exhaustive with regards to the topic under discussion. Therefore, other terms that relate to them, such as food, spring, hunger, thirst, feeding, and drinking, are also of great interest. Matthew 9 : 9–13) and the dispute related to celebration of the Sabbath (cf. Mt 12 : 1–8). In both cases, Jesus resolves using the following principle: “I want mercy, not sacrifice” (LXX Ho 6 : 6). In light of this verse, Jesus tries to demonstrate to his opponents that the basic standard reference terms towards those rejected by society and those in need is mercy. The Pharisees’ isolating and pitiless tradition is of merely human origin and does not correspond with the plan of God. That tradition is opposed to mercy, which belongs to the essence of God (cf. Szymik","doi":"10.21906/rbl.567","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.21906/rbl.567","url":null,"abstract":"Having been distorted since modern times, the notions of truth and freedom have been radically juxtaposed in post-modern worldviews, consequently resulting in the loss of key values: the truth is questioned, while freedom is determined and limited by worldly purposes. J. Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) shows that the terms are de facto , theologically important (Theological Hermeneutics); i.e., they can be fully and properly understood from the heart of Christian faith God is the right guarantor of the truth (involving the existence of the objective and judicious reality) and the Embodiment of God’s Son, Logos, is the ultimate argument for its attainability and cognizability. When Jesus said: “I am the truth” (John 14 : 6) He convinced that the truth is universal and belongs to God. Thereby, it remains universally binding; it is the appropriate basis of ethos. The truth constitutes the key to interpreting reality and is a superior (independent) criterion for its arrangement (also in the social and political sense). Through baptism, the believer is immersed in the paschal mystery of Christ and blessed with the grace of salvation. In this paraklesis, Paul presents Christians who have passed from death to life and have become “new people.” The “old man” possessed by sin has been forever buried with Christ. In baptism, the believer is brought into union with Christ in His death, resurrection, and glorious life in God. The believer is thus enabled to open to the obedience to God and to reject evil tendencies associated with sin. The Christian becomes a soldier of God, serving in the army fighting for the freedom of the children of God and for the justice .
