Sundanese phonological structure is different from Arabic. Therefore, it is difficult for some Sundanese people to pronounce Arabic. For example, Sundanese tends to face difficulties in reciting the verses of the Holy Quran. The Holy Quran is the Muslims’ holy book that is written in Arabic. The recitation of the Holy Quran should be in accordance with the Arabic phonology. In fact, Some Sundanese make irregularities or interference during reciting the Suras (chapters) of the Holy Quran. This study aims to reveal the phonological interference experienced by Sundanese speakers in reciting the Sura Al-Fatiha of the Holy Quran. The data in this study covers the recitations of the Sura Al-Fatiha. The data is retrieved through observation, recording, and interviews with some Sundanese people that live around the UPI Campus. The study concludes that there are five phonological interference phenomena in the pronunciation of the Hijā’ī (Arabic Alphabet) during the recitation of Sura Al-Fatiha. They are lenition, sound reinforcement, unusual sound changes, the voice addition, and assimilation. Some factors cause such interferences. They cover the influence of the Sundanese vocabulary and Arab phonemes that do not exist in the phonology of the Sundanese language.","PeriodicalId":55674,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43114781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The pre-Balai Pustaka Indonesian novels mark the public's awareness of the importance of education so that it cannot be separated from its social cultural system. The issue of the importance of women's education and equality discourse has been spawned in pre-Balai Pustaka Indonesian novels. This is important to be reflected as an effort to enrich the literary treasures of Indonesia that often side-stepped pre-Balai Pustaka literary works. Three pre-Balai Pustaka Indonesia novels that raise issues of women's education and equality discourse show the concern of Indonesian authors on issues related to women's education. This research seeks to explore the discourse of equality in three pre-Balai Pustaka Indonesian novels buried in the course of Indonesian literature. Therefore, feminist literary criticism and gender perspective are used. The results of this study contribute to the world of Indonesian literature, especially the activities of Indonesian literary criticism that reflect the presence of pre-Balai Pustaka Indonesia novels for the development of literary criticism in the present time and the future.","PeriodicalId":55674,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49606690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article tries to draw a configuration of printing books in Sundanese for about 100 years in the Dutch colonial and Japanese occupation period. Printing and publishing books in Sundanese was initiated by the Dutch colonial government for the sake of management of their colony. This article discuss three aspects in print culture in Sundanese: (1) the role of government printing house and private publishers, (2) the cultural relationship between manuscript and printed books (3) the changes after the emergence of printed books. Print culture in the Sundanese-speaking community was born and has developed. Its facets have changed from time to time. We notice more than 2200 Sundanese books were published up to the second decade of the 21st century when the technological innovation has proceeded in an enormous pace. However, the importance of Sundanese publication has not diminished in terms of nurturing educated citizens in this digital-oriented society and supporting cultural identity. The analysis presents the type of grammatical interferences, the frequency of occurrence of each interference type and their detailed description. Analysis of data revealed that students in high level still experience grammatical interferences in producing Indonesian speech.
