So that, working in informal sector is one of the solutions for labor with low skill to gain an income and move out from poverty. This research aims to analyse determinant factors of labor income in informal sector, focused on demographic and social economics variables. By using SAKERNAS data from Indonesian Statistics, this research is adopted Mincer Wage Equation and conducted by Ordinary Least Square Method. The result shows that Mincer Equation still a robust model for modelling wage factor. Labor with more educational backgrounds come up with higher income since the education will refine the workability and capability to improve productivity. In the other hand, labor in informal sector who live in the village earn more income than those who work in the city area. This conclude that by right policy, informal sector can develop higher income as high as formal sector.","PeriodicalId":55668,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Ekonomi dan Studi Pembangunan","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46107674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cross-border trade, which was originally facilitated by the government of Indonesia and East Timor by providing a common border market, has been closed since the Covid-19 pandemic. As a consequence, illegal transaction activities continue around the border with an unconventional approach and run outside the control of the state. The study aims to determine the effect of transaction costs, institutional changes, black markets on the welfare of people in border areas directly or indirectly. Explanatory research is a method approach used with PLS (Partial Least Square). The results of the study show that the direct relationship between constructs is positive, except that the transaction cost on welfare is negative. The indirect effect of transaction costs and institutional changes on welfare through the black market is positive. The factor of low transaction costs and changes in people’s behavior and income causes the trading process to be outside the government’s permit. Another supporting factor is the ease of accessibility in the form of proximity to mileage, means of transportation, and the similarity of economic needs. This research using the structural equation model partial least square (SEM-PLS) method with cross-section secondary data within provinces (34 provinces) from the 2016 Economic Census (2017 census). The analysis results showed that the labor force absorption of MSEs in Indonesia was directly and positively affected by the number of MSEs and the income of MSEs. The number of MSEs in Indonesia was positively affected by the education level of MSEs owners. Meanwhile, the income of MSEs was positively affected by the use of the internet (digital technology) of MSEs. The education level of MSE owners was the only factor that had an indirect positive effect on the labor force absorption of MSEs. Increasing the labor force absorption of MSEs in Indonesia can be promoted by strengthening the entrepreneurship curriculum to foster an entrepreneurial spirit in students, especially at the higher education level, to grow the startup businesses. In addition, digital marketing partnerships with various e-commerce platforms providing marketplaces and online courier service platforms to increase MSEs income are encouraged. This study employed a positivistic research paradigm to explain and predict the determinants of switching behavior of banking customers. In this study, a quantitative approach was adopted to examine the relationship between variables, determine variable causality, generalization, and prediction. The results of data analysis indicate that the important factors that determine switching behavior are religiosity, internet banking, and employee hospitality. Additionally, conditions that can hinder switching behavior are the fact that customers are increasingly rational. Lastly, the strategy that need to be developed by Islamic banking related to switching behavior is to maintain customer loyalty. The managerial implication of this research is that efforts are needed to increase understanding of Islamic banking to a higher level of education through a rational approach. Future research is expected to include price variables, number of offices, and other rational-based services to explore in more detail the determinants of switching behavior. The Logit model was chosen due to the ordinal response variable and the dependent variable using a scale of 0 and 1. This study tested 7 independent variables using binary logistic regression. The results showed that the economic factors of employment and income had a significant effect on happiness. It implies that there was no Easterlin Paradox in Indonesia. Individual characteristic factors, comprising age, duration of education, and health showed an influence on the head of household’s level of happiness. This research found that gender and area of residence variables did not show significant results. In other words, the level of happiness of the head of household was not determined by the gender; male or female. The level of happiness of the head of household living in rural or urban areas also showed no effect.","PeriodicalId":55668,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Ekonomi dan Studi Pembangunan","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48592318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper examined the impact of governance, public expenditure and trade on poverty reduction in some selected Sub-Saharan African countries, using Pool Mean Group (PMG) with data spanned for 21 years (1996-2016). The results show a long-run association between governance, public expenditure, trade and poverty reduction in SSA. Also, control of corruption, political stability, government expenditure, and trade reduces poverty by enhancing the Human Development Index (HDI) in the long run. This outcome implies that improving governance (control of corruption and political stability) is vital for reducing poverty as it increases the adequate performance of public expenditure and as well as promote trade in SSA.","PeriodicalId":55668,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Ekonomi dan Studi Pembangunan","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44216329","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analytical method used is Data Envelopment Analysis with an output-oriented model. The approach used is a variable return to scale. In measuring efficiency, the input used is educational spending per capita, while the output used is the years of schooling. The results showed that the average level of the relative efficiency of 33 local governments in North Sumatra decreased from 2015 to 2018. In 2015, there were three relatively efficient local governments: Medan, Pematang Siantar, and Labuhan Batu. However, in 2018, only Medan is relatively efficient. The efficiency level of Labuhan Batu declined in 2018. In fact, all parent local governments and local governments resulting from split experienced a decrease inefficiency. Thus, a regional split has not succeeded in increasing the relative efficiency of local governments in North Sumatra Province.","PeriodicalId":55668,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Ekonomi dan Studi Pembangunan","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45947985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
