{"title":"Evaluación del proceso de incapacidad temporal por contingencias comunes en el periodo prepandemia por COVID-19 (bienio 2018 y 2019)","authors":"Ángel Carlos Matía Cubillo , Francisco Casanova Gómez , María Esther Cubo Delgado , Juan Valencia Ramos , Miren Elízari Roncal , Belén Angulo Fernández de Larrea","doi":"10.1016/j.aprim.2025.103282","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.aprim.2025.103282","url":null,"abstract":"<div><h3>Objectives</h3><div>To know the characteristics of the sick leave (SL) process, reasons, actual and estimated duration, and related factors.</div></div><div><h3>Design</h3><div>Descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective study.</div></div><div><h3>Setting</h3><div>Health Centers of Burgos's Health Area.</div></div><div><h3>Participants</h3><div>Active workers, selected by simple random sampling, among those who had a SL process in 2018 and 2019.</div></div><div><h3>Main measurements</h3><div>Sociodemographic variables; related to SL reasons, estimated and observed duration and job position; clinical variables: habits, comorbidities, polypharmacy and copayment.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>Nine hundred thirty-three workers, 52.4% men, age 43.6<!--> <!-->±<!--> <!-->11.4 years. The processes with the greatest difference between observed and estimated duration were neoplasms, circulatory system diseases, mental disorders, nervous system and musculoskeletal disorders. Significant difference for previous comorbidities, polypharmacy, no copayment and >55 years. 31.8% requested additional tests, 3.1% were done in mutual insurance companies; and 33.3% consultations. Higher percentage of SL in unskilled jobs and longer duration in skilled jobs.</div></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><div>Primary care assumed the treatment in >90% of the SL processes. Referral to another level of care for tests or consultations may lead to a longer duration of leave given the usual delays in the health system; the percentage of tests carried out at a mutual insurance company is low. The duration of the process included the observed and estimated. {"title":"Análisis de las visitas en la unidad de urgencias hospitalaria y de los conocimientos de la población sobre atención primaria","authors":"Anna Balsells-Roig , Mireia Llaurado-Serra","doi":"10.1016/j.aprim.2025.103291","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.aprim.2025.103291","url":null,"abstract":"<div><h3>Objectives</h3><div>To analyse less urgent and non-urgent visits to the hospital emergency department (ED) and their characteristics, and to determine the knowledge of the Catalan population about primary care (PC) services and the concepts of emergencies.</div></div><div><h3>Design</h3><div>It is divided into 2 parts: 1) descriptive, retrospective study in which ED visits were investigated, and 2) observational, prospective and cross-sectional study through an anonymous and voluntary <em>ad hoc</em> survey.</div></div><div><h3>Location</h3><div>The visits analysed were from an ED of a third-level referral hospital in Catalonia, Spain. The survey was distributed electronically to the Catalan population.</div></div><div><h3>Participants</h3><div>1) Visits to the ED made in 2018 and 2021 that were categorised at a triage level, and 2) residents in Catalonia excluding those who only had private health insurance and minors.</div></div><div><h3>Main measurements</h3><div>1) Triage level and variables associated with visits to the ED, and 2) knowledge about their PC area and 4 scenarios in which they had to determine whether they would go to the ED or PC.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>1) A total of 219,454 visits were analysed, and 50% were less urgent or non-urgent, and 2) 270 people were analysed. Despite being familiar with the PC area, 67% stated they would go to the ED if it were closed. {"title":"The physical activity and sedentary behavior of pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus: A cross-sectional study","authors":"Yan Wang , Yue Peng , Yuyang Wang , Yan Pu , Biru Luo","doi":"10.1016/j.aprim.2025.103312","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.aprim.2025.103312","url":null,"abstract":"<div><h3>Background</h3><div>Although physical activity is recommended as a measure for treatment and management of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), little is known about the status of sedentary behavior, barriers and enablers to exercise, and the needs for exercise guidance in pregnant women with GDM.</div></div><div><h3>Aim</h3><div>The objectives of this study were to investigate the status of physical activity, sedentary behaviors and needs for exercise guidance in pregnant women with GDM, and explore its barriers, enablers and determinants.</div></div><div><h3>Method</h3><div>A cross-sectional study was conducted. A self-designed questionnaire was used to collect the data of exercise, sedentary behavior and barriers/enablers to exercise. Pregnancy Physical Activity Questionnaire was used to evaluate the physical activity. A stepwise multivariate logistic regression was conducted to analyze the determinants of exercise among pregnant women with GDM.</div></div><div><h3>Findings</h3><div>A total of 371 questionnaires were collected. The exercise compliance rate was only 27.42%. 41% of pregnant women with GDM had sedentary time more than 6<!--> <!-->h per day. 50.9% of participants had sedentary lifestyle. The most common barriers and enablers to physical activity were pregnancy symptoms or discomfort (32.1%) and easier glycemic control (88.9%), respectively.
