Abstract With the increase in Corymbia citriodora cultivation in Brazil, it is crucial to evaluate its characteristics in different environments of seedling production, given the different acclimatization strategies under the prevailing environmental conditions in its cultivation. The objective of this study was to evaluate distinct spectral qualities of LEDs lamps in morpho-anatomical characteristics in Corymbia citriodora seedlings. The work was conducted from August 2018 to January 2019, in a growth room. The experimental design used was completely randomized, where the treatments were composed of four spectral qualities of light from white, red (660 nm), blue (450 nm) and blue + red (40% + 60%) LED lamps, with light intensity of 72 µmol m -2 s -1 each bench. For Corymbia citriodora , the different spectral qualities affected characteristics such as leaf blade thickness, leaf area, dry matter, stomatal density, decreased chlorophyll b and total chlorophyll content under red LED and caused lower epidermis thickness under blue LED cultivation. The use of white spectral quality is the most appropriate and favors the dispatch of seedlings at 102 days after emergence, both in the parameters evaluated for leaf area index and for dry matter. influence on the leaf area index, dry matter, chlorophyll, stomatal density and anatomy.","PeriodicalId":54443,"journal":{"name":"Scientia Forestalis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88389694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the end of the exploration cycle, the deposits must undergo interventions to rectify and revegetate the landscape. In this study, the efficiency of revegetation techniques was evaluated in an area degraded by piçarra exploitation, located in the municipality of Pendências-RN, in the Tropical Dry Forest (Caatinga). In a split-plot experiment, the effect of topsoil application (in plots), and planting of seedlings (split plots) was evaluated according to the following treatments: T1 – without planting of seedlings (control); T2 – planting of 15 native tree species and T3 – planting of the 15 species with the application of mulch of the Brazilian palm tree Copernicia prunifera (Mill.) at the base of the plants. Biometric evaluations were performed at 6, 13 and 23 months after planting. Of the 15 species evaluated, Mimosa tenuiflora (Willd.) Poir, Mimosa caesalpiniifolia Benth, Enterolobium contortisiliquum (Vell.) Morong, Piptadenia retusa (Jacq.) P.G. Ribeiro, Seigler & Ebinger, Erythrina velutina Willd, Cenostigma pyramidale (Tul.) Gagnon & G.P.Lewis, Jatropha molissima (Pohl) Baill. and Tabebuia aurea (Silva Manso) Benth. & Hook.f. ex S.Moore stood out for their high survival and growth, indicating suitability for the use in the rehabilitation of areas degraded by piçarra – gravel- extraction. The addition of topsoil to the degraded substrate did not affect the survival rate or plant height. Topsoil, however, promoted better vegetation cover (75% a 100% of coverage vs. 5% to 25% in the control treatment; p<0.05), and greater biodiversity of regenerating herbaceous species. Mulching promoted greater growth of tree species at 13 months when in the presence of topsoil (113 cm average height vs. 93 cm in the control; p<0.05), and the canopy area of the plants at 23 months (0.30 m 2 in diameter vs 0.20 m 2 ; p<0.05). The results indicate that the combination of topsoil application, planting of seedlings of selected species and application of mulching to the base of tree seedlings is an efficient strategy for the recovery of areas degraded by mining in the Caatinga.","PeriodicalId":54443,"journal":{"name":"Scientia Forestalis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87398089","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Abstract The objective of this study was to analyze the concentrations of non-structural carbohydrates and cell wall polymers in Protium icicariba individuals along an environmental gradient of a Coastal Brazilian Atlantic Forest (restinga). The concentrations of non-structural carbohydrates (glucose, fructose, sucrose and starch) and cell wall polymers (cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin) were quantified in samples of stems, branches and leaves of individuals distributed in contrasting zones regarding the occurrence of floods [periodically floodable (PI), transitional (IT) and non-floodable (NI)]. Individuals from the non-flooded zone had higher concentrations of starch and hemicelluloses in the branches and leaves. On the other hand, cellulose and lignin concentrations were higher in the leaves of individuals from the periodically flooded and transitional zones. The variations in the concentrations of non-structural carbohydrates and cell wall polymers were mainly associated with water availability and plasticity of the species, in addition to possible influences of soil nutrient supply and the occurrence of herbivory. The sensitivity in the dynamics of the carbon molecules of P. icicariba in a diverse and spatially short environmental gradient, requires considerable plasticity of the species that, in the imminence of climatic changes, must favor its survival in the face of the imposition of new environmental filters.","PeriodicalId":54443,"journal":{"name":"Scientia Forestalis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88215050","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Abstract Soil chemical and physical attributes can be considered one of the main indicators of soil quality and can be useful in monitoring and diagnosing the current condition of a degraded area. The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of herbaceous plants native to the semi-arid region in the recovery of degraded areas through changes in soil chemical and physical attributes in areas altered by the implementation of the São Francisco River Integration Project (SFIP). The experiment was carried out in Cabrobó, Brazil, in the North Axis. The herbaceous plants were sown in an intercropping, totaling 16 treatments (15 densities and the control) distributed in four blocks. Three soil samples were taken and soil chemical and physical attributes were determined. Two statistical analyses were performed, the first one in a randomized block design (RBD) with 16 treatments (densities) and four replications, and the second one, analyzing the sampling times (control, second and third samplings) in the four intercropping blocks. Changes in soil attributes due to area recovery practices were found in the surface layer. Although there was no statistical difference between the cover plants used, there was a temporal change in some chemical attributes, such as SOM, K + , Mg 2+, and P, which showed an increase between the control and the second sampling, in addition to a reduction between the second and third samplings. Thus, the recovery of the soils of areas altered by the SFIP should be carried out continuously until the stabilization of the ecological system. testemunha e a segunda amostragem. Scientia Abstract The Atlantic Forest is a global hotspot for biodiversity conservation; however, human actions threaten and unbalance the dynamics of the natural processes of the biome. The present study investigated the incidence of solar radiation within a fragment of semi deciduous seasonal forest in the area of the Atlantic Forest Biome in southeastern Brazil. In the four seasons of the year, the leaf area index (LAI) and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) were measured in the understory vegetation. The measurements were made at one-meter height, in ten different locations in the forest fragment, with different terrain exposure and slope. The annual average LAI was 4.5 and the PAR transmissivity was 4.1%. However, the results showed a spatial and seasonal variability of the leaf area index in the studied forest fragment. The seasonal variation of PAR in the understory vegetation was due to the LAI and to the different slopes and terrain exposures. The spatial heterogeneity in PAR availability is indicative of high plant diversity in the forest fragment.","PeriodicalId":54443,"journal":{"name":"Scientia Forestalis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-08-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73325194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fragments were divided into four size classes called C1 (<5 ha), C2 (5-25 ha), C3 (25.10-50 ha) and C4 (>50 ha). Metrics were grouped according to their nature in (i) area and density, (ii) edge, (iii) shape, (iv) central area and (v) proximity. In total, 4,286 native forest fragments were identified, which represented 7.80% of total area of the basin. There is a predominance of fragments with more regular shapes, small (<25.10 ha) and, consequently, with greater edge effect. Results showed that the drainage basin studied is highly fragmented, which reinforces the need for strategies aimed at forest conservation and restoration of degraded forests in this region.","PeriodicalId":54443,"journal":{"name":"Scientia Forestalis","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-08-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73853137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
