The objective of this study was to reduce the consumption of Chromated Copper Arsenate type C (CCA-C) without affecting the quality of the treatment by determining the most efficient wood moisture interval for two genotypes of Eucalyptus sp. at different concentrations of active ingredients. A total of 54 fence posts of the species E. cloeziana and the hybrid E. camaldulensis x E. urophylla were treated. The pieces were randomly selected from three drying piles with different storage times in the yard (long, intermediate, and short). The active ingredient concentrations tested were 1.2, 1.4, and 1.6%. Retention analysis was performed to evaluate the quality of the preservative treatment. For both analyzed materials, the lowest and highest average retention values were observed in short and long storage piles and concentrations of 1.2% and 1.6% A.I. CCA-C, respectively. For E. cloeziana , only posts with a long storage time and treated with 1.6% of CCA-C were considered suitable for use in contact with the soil, according to the Brazilian standard, while for the clonal hybrid, posts with intermediate and long storage times, treated with 1.6% of CCA-C were considered suitable for use in contact with the soil. It was observed that CCA-C retention in the studied fence posts was directly influenced by the concentration of active ingredient in the preservative solution and by the storage time of the materials in the yard.","PeriodicalId":54443,"journal":{"name":"Scientia Forestalis","volume":"31 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86877446","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If the species does not show considerable phenotypic plasticity, its distribution limits will be reduced. However, given the predictions of climate change, environments may undergo relatively abrupt variations and species will have to respond quickly to new conditions. To investigate how this can influence the dynamics of carbon compounds in plant tissues, studies on environmental gradients, combined with seasonal analysis of climate, are a powerful tool. The objective of this study was to evaluate the seasonal variation (dry period-rainy period) in the concentrations of non-structural carbohydrates and cell wall polymers in stems, branches and leaves of tree species distributed in zones of a restinga (sandbank) forest. For this, we carried out collections in the dry season (winter) and in the rainy season (summer) in populations of Eugenia bahiensis , Guarea macrophylla and Calophyllum brasiliense . Starch and hemicellulose concentrations were lower in the rainy season. However, the reduction in hemicellulose concentrations was the most uniform result. Probably, these molecules were used as energy source in the reproductive and growth demands of the species. Due to a long period of drought, the other non-structural carbohydrates (glucose, fructose and sucrose) did not show significant variations. Small variations in cellulose and lignin contents were attributed to fluctuations in the concentration of other molecules. In general, it was assumed that the low rainfall recorded during the study interfered with the expected seasonal responses. This phenomenon may have reduced the differences in soil moisture between forest zones.","PeriodicalId":54443,"journal":{"name":"Scientia Forestalis","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82906625","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Abstract With the increase in Corymbia citriodora cultivation in Brazil, it is crucial to evaluate its characteristics in different environments of seedling production, given the different acclimatization strategies under the prevailing environmental conditions in its cultivation. The objective of this study was to evaluate distinct spectral qualities of LEDs lamps in morpho-anatomical characteristics in Corymbia citriodora seedlings. The work was conducted from August 2018 to January 2019, in a growth room. The experimental design used was completely randomized, where the treatments were composed of four spectral qualities of light from white, red (660 nm), blue (450 nm) and blue + red (40% + 60%) LED lamps, with light intensity of 72 µmol m -2 s -1 each bench. For Corymbia citriodora , the different spectral qualities affected characteristics such as leaf blade thickness, leaf area, dry matter, stomatal density, decreased chlorophyll b and total chlorophyll content under red LED and caused lower epidermis thickness under blue LED cultivation. The use of white spectral quality is the most appropriate and favors the dispatch of seedlings at 102 days after emergence, both in the parameters evaluated for leaf area index and for dry matter. influence on the leaf area index, dry matter, chlorophyll, stomatal density and anatomy.","PeriodicalId":54443,"journal":{"name":"Scientia Forestalis","volume":"8 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88389694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the end of the exploration cycle, the deposits must undergo interventions to rectify and revegetate the landscape. In this study, the efficiency of revegetation techniques was evaluated in an area degraded by piçarra exploitation, located in the municipality of Pendências-RN, in the Tropical Dry Forest (Caatinga). In a split-plot experiment, the effect of topsoil application (in plots), and planting of seedlings (split plots) was evaluated according to the following treatments: T1 – without planting of seedlings (control); T2 – planting of 15 native tree species and T3 – planting of the 15 species with the application of mulch of the Brazilian palm tree Copernicia prunifera (Mill.) at the base of the plants. Biometric evaluations were performed at 6, 13 and 23 months after planting. Of the 15 species evaluated, Mimosa tenuiflora (Willd.) Poir, Mimosa caesalpiniifolia Benth, Enterolobium contortisiliquum (Vell.) Morong, Piptadenia retusa (Jacq.) P.G. Ribeiro, Seigler & Ebinger, Erythrina velutina Willd, Cenostigma pyramidale (Tul.) Gagnon & G.P.Lewis, Jatropha molissima (Pohl) Baill. and Tabebuia aurea (Silva Manso) Benth. & Hook.f. ex S.Moore stood out for their high survival and growth, indicating suitability for the use in the rehabilitation of areas degraded by piçarra – gravel- extraction. The addition of topsoil to the degraded substrate did not affect the survival rate or plant height. Topsoil, however, promoted better vegetation cover (75% a 100% of coverage vs. 5% to 25% in the control treatment; p<0.05), and greater biodiversity of regenerating herbaceous species. Mulching promoted greater growth of tree species at 13 months when in the presence of topsoil (113 cm average height vs. 93 cm in the control; p<0.05), and the canopy area of the plants at 23 months (0.30 m 2 in diameter vs 0.20 m 2 ; p<0.05). The results indicate that the combination of topsoil application, planting of seedlings of selected species and application of mulching to the base of tree seedlings is an efficient strategy for the recovery of areas degraded by mining in the Caatinga.","PeriodicalId":54443,"journal":{"name":"Scientia Forestalis","volume":"21 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87398089","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
