Samples were collected in the middle of the row (MR), in the crown projection (CP), and the midpoint between two rows (MR). Four mineral fertilization treatments applied to tree species were also compared: T0: without fertilization, T1: NPK (33-22-9), T2: NPK (66-44-18), and T3: NPK (99-66-27). The experimental design in randomized blocks was bifactorial with three positions x four doses, totaling 12 treatments with three replications, reaching 36 samples per component. Litterfall accumulation did not show significant differences between fertilizer doses and sampling positions, with a general average of 3846.8 kg ha-1. There was also no significant difference in the accumulation of aruana grass biomass between the different positions and doses, with a general average of 3479.8 kg ha-1. About to the accumulated organic carbon, there was no significant difference between the sampling positions and fertilization doses in the louro-pardo litter and the aruana grass biomass, with an average of 1791.3 kg ha-1 of carbon for the louro-pardo and 1653.1 kg ha-1 for aruana grass. The fertilization doses also did not significantly influence the carbon content of the litter of louro-pardo, which presented a general average of 1797.2 kg ha-1. In general, the fertilization of louro-pardo did not influence the amount of carbon in the litterfall, nor the amount of biomass of the aruana grass, and there was no indication for fertilization for this study.","PeriodicalId":53573,"journal":{"name":"Floresta","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135296410","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To do so, secondary data collected from Instituto Brazilian Geography and Statistics, considering historical series referring to the produced/commercialized quantity in silviculture (m³) and production value in silviculture (Thousand dollars). To obtain the price evolution (P) of each product, the equation was applied, using the quotient between the value of the production and its respective produced quantities. The analysis of the evolution of the GDP, on the other hand, was conducted by calculating the geometric growth rate (GGR). In relation to the real GDP, the decline started in 2011, however in a more moderate way. The real Brazilian GDP presented a positive rate of 3.51%, different from the silviculture rate that was negative for all products, triggering a decline in the forestry sector rate.","PeriodicalId":53573,"journal":{"name":"Floresta","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135296412","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although methods of estimation evaluation and sampling uncertainty together are unknown in the country, they are indispensable for improving the results of forest inventories since obtaining high quality estimates is extremely important for the country, due to its large forest areas and distinguished for being a world leader in the supply of timber and non-timber forest products, and a reference as a provider of environmental services. In view of the above, this paper presents the following study hypothesis: “Considering the uncertainty associated with inventory components: i - sampling and ii - regression model combined in the total variance of the forest inventory results in more accurate volume and biomass estimates” Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the uncertainties associated with sampling and the linear regression model in volume and biomass estimates in Acacia mearnsii stands in Brazil. To jointly evaluate these two sources of uncertainty, the hybrid variance estimator was used, with an analytical approach. The results showed that if model uncertainty is not considered, the total uncertainty is underestimated by 6.51%. In biomass estimates, the total uncertainty is underestimated by 18.74%. Ignoring uncertainty in total estimates can lead to uninformed decisions in forest management, with economic implications, particularly in biomass estimates, where the associated variation is even greater than in volume due to the nature of this variable.","PeriodicalId":53573,"journal":{"name":"Floresta","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135296537","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present study, we evaluated seedling production of Clathrotropis brunnea Amshoff, a legume tree native to tropical forests of Colombia. Seedling emergence parameters were assessed regarding two classes of seed mass (small seeds < 6.0 g and large seeds > 6.1 g) and tree levels of seed moisture content (control, 30% and 25%). Initial growth was evaluated in two sizes of plastic bags (small: 10 cm diameter x 25 cm height, with a volume of 1,700 cm3, and large: 15 cm x 35 cm and volume of 3,900 cm3), besides tree growth periods in the nursery (170, 205 and 235 days after sowing – DAS). Large seeds provided higher seedlings and reached a greater emergence percentage (93%) compared to the small ones (79%). On average, seeds reached 73% of emergence in the three moisture levels, including when desiccated from 47% in the control (fresh seeds) to 25%. To optimize seedling production and costs, large seeds can be sown in small bags, growing for a minimum of 205 DAS. The in-field performance of the produced seedlings remains to be tested according to these recommendations.","PeriodicalId":53573,"journal":{"name":"Floresta","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135296542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pruning trees in conflict with power lines is associated with several ergonomic risks due to postural issues and exposure to environmental conditions, such as noise and vibration in work activities. Additionally, there are life-threatening risks from falls or contact with power lines. The objective of this work was to apply the Ergonomic Workplace Analysis (EWA) method and assess the exposure of workers involved in pruning of trees conflicting with power lines to noise and vibration. The survey was conducted considering outsourced employees that provide services to an electric utility company in the state of Bahia, Brazil. The results obtained through EWA showed a regular risk rate, with concerning aspects, such as verbal communication (dialogue among workers regarding technical/operational issues), irregular posture of back, arms, and shoulders, high attention demand, and activity limitations. Quantitative analysis showed 84.9 dB (A-weighted) for noise and 2.440 m s-2 for vibration, both close to the action level. The pole saw vibration reached 3.703 m s-2, exceeding the tolerance limit. The importance of breaks, at-work exercises, and training is emphasized as ergonomic measures. A rotation system should be implemented in tree pruning activities to reduce exposure to vibration.","PeriodicalId":53573,"journal":{"name":"Floresta","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135296544","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Subsequently, the woods were classified in its structural gradings. Pinus taeda logs with 30 years old had the growth rings delimited at every six years on the transversal area. The juvenile wood was represented by the zone of 0 to 6 years of growth (marked with red), and 6.1-12 years (blue). The zone of 12.1-18 (orange) was considered as transition wood and from 18.1-24 (green) and 24.1-30 years (yellow), adult wood. After the sawing, 25 boards were selected to the sawing of the specimens (n = 104) for the static bending test. Growth-ring inclination was measured as a function of the direction of the load applied at the bending test. Statistical tests were performed in a factorial scheme with the MOR and MOE to static bending. Factors were independent (mechanical properties and growth-rings inclination). The 0-6-year-old wood was not indicated for structural use. Woods between 12-30 years old showed a minimum compatible result to be classified for structural use. The inclination did not influence at the modulus of elasticity and strength at bending.","PeriodicalId":53573,"journal":{"name":"Floresta","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135296545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In search of alternatives that facilitate data collection, indirect estimation has been studied, resulting in local equations for predicting the load based on easily obtainable variables. In this context, we sought to develop local equations to estimate the load of forest fuel, in a Cerrado area, in the Cantão Park State – Tocantins. As a function of variables measured in the field and digital variables from the processing of RGB digital images (Red, Green and Blue) acquired through aerial surveys. With the processing of digital images, the following variables were extracted: mean height in the digital model (hMDA) and point density in the three-dimensional model (DPM). After the aerial survey, field sampling was carried out, collecting the following variables: mean height in the field (hc), number of individuals (Qti) and Total Fuel Material (MCT). Subsequently, equations were fitted, adopting the entire sample set. The model selection criterion was based on R²aj, Syx% and residual graph, in which adjusted coefficient of determination (R²aj) from 0.12 to 0.83 and residual standard error (Syx%) of 19.4 were obtained at 44%. It was observed that the use of control points performed by the MDA reduces the occurrence of errors, the correlations between the analyzed variables indicate the importance of considering multiple factors when performing analyzes and predictions in the study areas.","PeriodicalId":53573,"journal":{"name":"Floresta","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135296548","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this sense, this work aimed to evaluate two artificial intelligence tools for this purpose, namely the neuro-fuzzy inference systems and the artificial neural networks. Four models were tested to obtain estimates for the diameter variable, which were prepared by combining the independent variables useful area per plant, age and height. After processing, the statistics of bias, square root of the mean squared error in percentage, correlation and mean percentage error were calculated, in addition to the preparation of scatter plots and histogram of residues. It was observed that, for the estimation of the diameter in both techniques, the use of the model with all independent variables obtained the best values for the analysis statistics. It can be concluded that both tools can be used to estimate the diameter, with the neuro-fuzzy inference system being more suitable for its processing speed and small variability between the values obtained in different training sessions for the same database.","PeriodicalId":53573,"journal":{"name":"Floresta","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47645923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A forest inventory was conducted to estimate the dry biomass, followed by full-tree harvesting with minimum stem diameters equal to 8, 10, 12, and 14 cm for pulpwood, as well as the full trees for energy purposes (treatments). Moisture, volatile matter, fixed carbon, ash contents, and higher and lower heating values of chips were evaluated. The dry biomass was compared between stands by the t-test (α = 0.05) and the fuel properties were assessed between minimum stem diameters in the same forest stand by the Tukey’s test (α = 0.05). Higher chip moisture was obtained in the larger minimum stem diameter, since it showed an increased up to 88% in moisture for the E. urophylla × E. grandis stand. Volatile matter, fixed carbon, and ash results showed that the recovered residues of E. saligna were more susceptible to variations in minimum stem diameters, with up to 53% reduction in ash content between the smallest diameter and full trees. Higher and lower heating values showed non-statistical differences between the minimum stem diameters in Eucalyptus stands.","PeriodicalId":53573,"journal":{"name":"Floresta","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41771049","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
