The “3-30-300 Rule” is an approach designed within the European context to quickly assess the supply of urban greenery. It considers the minimum number of trees visible from homes (3), the percentage of canopy cover (30), and the distance to people to access green spaces (300). This study aimed to adapt this Rule to a city in the Peruvian coastal desert, contributing to the agile, continuous, and low-cost monitoring of urban greenery. The methodology was tested in the district of Barranco - Lima and involved adapting each of the three indicators of the rule based on the physical characteristics of the urban fabric and the climatic context. A scoring system was proposed to quantitatively identify the areas with the highest urban green deficit. The results suggest that the “3-30-300 Rule” could be adapted to the Barranco district due to its flexibility to adjust to different spatial and climatic contexts and its low technical and financial requirements for its calculation. However, the main challenge remains the availability of quality data to enable the procedure to be replicated over time.","PeriodicalId":53573,"journal":{"name":"Floresta","volume":"107 30","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139391030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Environments such as the Dry Forest bring together characteristics that can harbor a diverse endophytic microbiota with metabolic particularities with potential to be explored. The objectives of this study were to isolate fungi and bacteria from aroeira leaves (Myracrodruon urundeuva Freire Alemão) situated at the Mata Seca National Park, Manga/MG; identify them through the sequencing of the ITS region and 16S rRNA gene, and evaluate the potential bioherbicidal effect of their metabolites on germination and vigor of Urochloa brizanthaCV. Piatã, Bidens pilosa L. and Stylosanthes sp. seeds. The genus Phomopsis was the most abundant in the capoeira tree, being found in 12 of the 19 isolated fungi. Phomopsis sp., Bacillus sp., and Brevilacillus sp. metabolites interfered with the vigor of the seeds, presenting a potential bioherbicidal effect.","PeriodicalId":53573,"journal":{"name":"Floresta","volume":"113 49","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139391629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study was to evaluate the antifungal action of different bark extracts of Anacardium occidentale , Ziziphus joazeiro and Mimosa caesalpiniifolia against Ganoderma lobatum and G. multiplicatum by in vitro mycelial inhibition. The extractions from the bark of the trees were carried out with a Soxhlet extractor, using water, ethanol and hexane as solvents. The potential of mycelia inhibition of each extract was tested against fungi of the Ganoderma genus. The hexane extracts of the bark had activity against G. multiplicatum , unlike the aqueous and ethanol extracts. Even though the hexane-based extracts had a small mycelial inhibition effect against G. lobatum, there were no satisfactory results of extracts against this fungus species.","PeriodicalId":53573,"journal":{"name":"Floresta","volume":"116 26","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139391211","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is responsible for essential processes such as soil protection, nutrient cycling and moisture retention. This study aimed to quantify the stock and water retention capacity of litter accumulated in areas of different ages in a forest restoration process. We conducted the study in the municipality of Otacílio Costa, Santa Catarina State, Brazil, in a forestry company. The area went through the extraction of Pinus spp. and displays six areas with different periods in forest restoration (13, 12, 11, 10, 4, and 3 years). At each age, we installed four plots, totaling 24 plots, and we performed five collections of litter in each plot, totaling 120 collections. We determined the Water Retention Capacity by the Blow method, and we determined the litter stock in the unit of Mg ha -1 . The data were submitted to ANOVA, Tukey test, and Pearson's Linear Correlation test. The total average litter stock of the area was equal to 4.46 Mg ha -1 . From all six areas evaluated, the oldest area in the forest restoration process, with 13 years, showed the highest litter stock and the highest water retention capacity (558.44%). The correlation between the litter stock and the water retention capacity was null, indicating that, as the areas progressed in the restoration process, the increase in accumulated litter did not influence the increase in their water-holding capacity.","PeriodicalId":53573,"journal":{"name":"Floresta","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135296543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data provided by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) were used referring to the quantity produced, unit value (UV) and gross production value (GPV), subdivided according to Agreste, Central, East and West mesoregions in RN. These variables were simplified in the form of descriptive statistics, with the UV and GPV deflated with a base year of 1999. In addition, the exploration products, the total area explored, the type of cut and the situation regarding the plans of sustainable forest management - PMFS, were analyzed, as provided by the Northeastern Plant Information Center (Centro Nordestino de Informações Sobre Plantas, CNIP). The results generated allowed us note that the West mesoregion stood out in the production of firewood, being the second largest producer of charcoal and the only producer of roundwood logs. The highest UV per ton of coal occurred in 2016 in the Agreste and West mesoregions; in 2018, in the Central mesoregion and, in 2013, in the East. The highest UV per cubic meter of firewood occurred in 2017 for the Agreste and Central regions, and in 2019, in the East and West mesoregions, respectively. The Central mesoregion had the highest number of PMFS in the state, with most of the plans that are currently active being used for the exploitation of firewood. West mesoregion presented only two assets.","PeriodicalId":53573,"journal":{"name":"Floresta","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135296547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Alain for plywood panel production.The demand for wood-based products by society is growing because these products are less restrictive, highly resistant, and reliable in use. However, due to a lack of technological knowledge, the number of Amazonian species used within the timber industries is still limited. Therefore, knowing the potential use of these species is important to the forestry sector’s development. In this context, this study aimed to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of plywood panels produced with veneer sheets of Zanthoxylum ekmanii (lemon) and its combination with Pinus sp., using the urea-formaldehyde (UF) and (PF) phenol-formaldehyde resins. Panels were produced with 15 mm, dimensions of 50 x 50 cm, and a grammage of 360 g/m2 in a single line. Physical and mechanical tests were performed by the specifications described in the Brazilian standards. The results were compared to the requirements of the ABIMCI technical catalog and the NBR ISO 12466-2 standard. The homogeneous and combined panels with Z. ekmanii evaluated in this study presented results of water absorption, thickness swelling, compression set recovery, glue line shear strength, and parallel and perpendicular static bending statistically equal to or superior to the reference species (Pinus sp.). Therefore, the panels produced with Z. ekmanii have good quality in bonding with UF and PF resins. This species can be used in the production of homogeneous plywood or combination with Pinus sp.","PeriodicalId":53573,"journal":{"name":"Floresta","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135296551","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this work is to demonstrate the importance of Protected Areas in the state of Mato Grosso in the avoided deforestation and to estimate their contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and soil erosion. The methodology was based on secondary data and the use of a GIS environment. As a result, it was found that in Mato Grosso there are 120 PAs between federal, state and municipal, they protect 6% of the territorial area of the state and most are located in the Amazon biome. Mato Grosso’s Forest cover in 2019 was 49.8 million hectares, with an estimated forest carbon stock of over 16.4 GtCO2. The PAs were created over the years in the state, but the greatest number occurred between 2000 and 2005 and together, in 2019 they were responsible for preventing the deforestation of more than 726,000 hectares of forest, 10 million tons of erosion and storing 281 million tons of carbon, which if traded on the credit market would have an estimated value of more than US$1.25 million. If the PAs did not exist and if deforestation were to be carried out, the cost of replacing this area would be more than US$2.73 billion. Therefore, the importance of PAs in environmental conservation and in the economy related to forest cover is notorious.","PeriodicalId":53573,"journal":{"name":"Floresta","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135296550","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this work was to evaluate the initial growth of Eucalyptus grandis seedlings, using carbonized and fresh coffee husks, cattle manure, coconut fiber and carbonized rice husks as substrate constituents, in different combinations. As a control treatment, the commercial substrate Maxfértil was used. The experiment was set in a nursery, in a randomized block design, consisting of eight treatments and four replications, with a sample unit of 16 seedlings. To evaluate the quality of the seedlings formed, the biometric variables, and plant biomass were quantified and the characterization of the physical and chemical properties of the formulated substrates was also carried out, regarding the characteristics of the seedlings produced. Qualitative analyses were used, where the ease of removing the seedlings from the tube and the aggregation of the roots to the substrate were assessed. After data analysis, it was found that the use of coffee husks was adequate for the production of Eucalyptus grandis seedlings for most of the analyzed variables, with higher values than the seedlings formed in the control treatment. Thus, coffee husks are indicated as an alternative constituent of substrates for the production of seedlings of the referred species.","PeriodicalId":53573,"journal":{"name":"Floresta","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135296552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, the objective was to evaluate the influence of different sizes of mini-cuttings and successive collections on the rooting and root vigor of Ilex paraguariensis. Four successive collections were carried out and mini-cuttings measuring 4, 6, 8 and 10 cm (± 0.2) in length were made, which were staked in 110 cm 3 tubes and kept in a climate-controlled greenhouse for 45 days. Rooting percentage, number of mini-cutting roots -1 , average length of the three largest mini-cutting roots -1, callus, mortality, survival, and maintenance of original leaves were considered. Rooting was influenced by the size of the mini-cuttings, with mini-cuttings of 8 cm and 10 cm showing greater vigor. The good adaptation of the mini-stumps tends to favor the rooting of the mini-cuttings throughout the collections, showing the potential of the mini-cutting technique for the vegetative influence of Ilex paraguariensis.","PeriodicalId":53573,"journal":{"name":"Floresta","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135296403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The tests were carried out according to the series of European standards for wood-based panels. The results showed that the P6 panel type (20/60S/20 composition), with a randomly distributed central layer, exhibited greater dimensional stability. The panel P4 (30/40/30) showed better results for static bending properties in the parallel direction, whereas the P2 panel (10/80/10) did so in the perpendicular direction. The P3 Panel (20/60/20), showed a better balance of bending properties in both directions.
