It changes their entire world, influencing their feelings, behaviour, tasks, and roles. For many people it can be defined as a difficult or even limit situation, i.e. one that affects the whole person emotionally, socially, physically, and spiritually. Contemporary literature, particularly English-speaking scientific communities, has increasingly emphasised the importance of taking care not only of somatic ailments but also of spiritual existential questions about the meaning of life, suffering, and dying. Since it is of such importance, it is also necessary to ask how spiritual care can be provided to people with long-term diseases.","PeriodicalId":52686,"journal":{"name":"Paedagogia Christiana","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41433664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This, in turn, translates to an unquestionable preference to ideas, feelings, motives and acts which are of community character and use. On the other hand, loneliness is recognized as a reason of our pain, suffering, fears, sadness and horrible despair. It results that our key ambition, need and aim should be avoiding and preventing each form of solitude or loneliness in our private and social life at all costs. But, as it occurs, this causes a lot of further – not only theoretical but unfortunately also practical – problems, which some researchers and ordinary people must face. This kind of unilateral and unambiguous interpretation of both solitude/loneliness and communitiveness I used to call ‘monolectical’. In my presentation I am going to show that ‘monolectics’ of communitiveness or solitude/loneliness is insufficient for possibly objective and complete picture of this two. In consequence I will be arguing that monoseological discourse is able to gain it and to develop itself only by turning to the dialectical method of explaining. The fundamental thesis and belief as well, expressed on the ground of the dialectics of solitude/loneliness and communitiveness, is that solitude/loneliness and communitiveness are not at all isolated but strongly complementary. A practical conclusion arises from this statement according to which each of us should intertwine in his or her life some periods of communitiveness and then some episodes of solitude.","PeriodicalId":52686,"journal":{"name":"Paedagogia Christiana","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42688037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The academic culture in the UK can leave an individual feeling segregated and alienated both from their peers and, importantly, from their authentic selves, as they scrabble to have their voices heard in an ever-segregating and performative environment. This can detract from a good learning experience, particularly in subjects like religious studies which require a multi-focal approach to learning. Humanistic education theory recognises the need for mutuality and friendship. The theory grew from humanistic psychologists who placed ‘I’ at the centre of education practices, and led to the rise of Critical Reflection as a means of self-development in many fields of study. This has, in turn, given rise to an increase in self-awareness in learners with the capacity for endless improvement. But it can leave the individual feeling disengaged from their holistic self, as personal and academic learning are separated, with a sense of fragmentation between the subject material and the personal meaning for the individual. So, are there other ways to approach learning which incorporate both the self and the subject matter in a more holistic way? This paper proposes that one possible solution is to develop an autoethnographical approach which allows the individual to engage in the subject material while seeking his/her own truths in those materials. The core ideals of autoethnography allow this by connecting ‘personal (insider) experience, insights and knowledge to larger (relational, cultural, political) conversations, contexts and conventions’ in order to create ‘nuanced, complex, and specific accounts of personal/cultural experience’ (Adams et al., 2015, p. 25). The author will challenge canonical ways of conducting research by exploring the possibility of using autoethnography as a means of cultivating dialogue with a learning community, a body of knowledge and with the self, to develop a method for learning religion which allows for a holistic and integrative approach to the individual’s own self-understanding, and helps alleviate the loneliness of the learner through learning in ways that are congruent with core values and ideals.","PeriodicalId":52686,"journal":{"name":"Paedagogia Christiana","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47532255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To learn about these subjects, a survey study was conducted in five penitentiaries, among 478 male inmates. Furthermore, the impact of recidivism on the aforementioned structure of contacts with relatives has been studied. It was determined that most of the incarcerated males had contact with their relatives, usually in the form of phone conversations. The source of those contacts was usually the mother of the prisoner. The percentage of prisoners who maintained contact with at least one relative was higher among those participants who were serving their first sentence, in comparison to repeat criminals. However, when the population of repeat criminals was grouped by the number of served sentences in the penitentiary (two, three, four or more served sentences), it became apparent that prisoners who were imprisoned for the third time constituted the highest percentage of prisoners who had contact with relatives, among the repeat criminals. The change of structure in the source and forms of contact with relatives, which correlated with the increase of served sentences, was noted. The number of prisoners who declared contact with their mothers, fathers and wives decreased, while the percentage of prisoners who had contact with their partners was relatively stable. However, an increase in the contacts with their offspring (only through phone calls) was noted. Ultimately, it has been shown that the percentage of persons who stay in contact with at least one person outside prison is highest among those serving their first sentence and lowest among repeat criminals; and that repeat criminals have the fewest sources and forms of contact among all of the subpopulations distinguished in the study.","PeriodicalId":52686,"journal":{"name":"Paedagogia Christiana","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47353626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Rozpatruje go na gruncie dyskursu monoseologicznego. W szerszym rozumieniu termin monoseologia odnosi sie do wszystkich nauk zainteresowanych analizą oraz systematycznymi badaniami nad samotnością; w wezszym znaczeniu termin ten oznacza filozofie samotności. Istnieje dosyc powszechne przekonanie, ze samotnośc posiada jedynie zle strony, wspolnotowośc zaś przeciwnie, wylącznie dobre. To z kolei przeklada sie na preferowanie uczuc, motywow oraz czynow, ktore mają charakter wspolnotowy lub wspolnototworczy. Mozna wrecz mowic o swego rodzaju fetyszyzacji wspolnotowości i wspolnotowych form zycia. Samotnośc postrzegana jako kontradyktoryczna wobec wspolnoty forma zycia, uznawana za jej [tej wspolnoty] negacje, zagrozenie i zwyrodnienie (degeneracje), jest przeto – nader jednostronnie, tendencyjnie i plasko – identyfikowana jako jeden z podstawowych predyktorow, a rownocześnie jeden z najbardziej niebezpiecznych czynnikow ryzyka odpowiadających za powstanie, stymulowanie, utrwalanie bądź poglebianie roznego rodzaju deficytow, patologii i anomalii w obszarze ludzkiej egzystencji (ktore w ogolności mozna określic mianem stanow patoegzystencjalnych, takich na przyklad, jak cierpienie, lek, smutek, tesknota, nostalgia, rozpacz, apatia, depresja etc. ). Na tej podstawie wyprowadzany jest cokolwiek podejrzany – by nie powiedziec falszywy – wniosek, ze podstawowym zadaniem kazdego czlowieka jest taka organizacja systemu zycia (zarowno indywidualnego, jak i spolecznego), ktora wyklucza, eliminuje bądź zapobiega wszelkim przejawom samotności. Tego rodzaju upraszczające i jednostronne podejście do zagadnienia nazywam monolektycznym. W swoim artykule zamierzam wykazac, ze ta gleboko zakorzeniona w filozofii, etyce i kulturze lacinskiej monolektyczna wykladnia i aksjologia samotności i wspolnotowości jest nie tylko wątpliwa poznawczo i niewystarczająca eksplanacyjnie, ale nadto, ze domaga sie ona znaczącej korekty (co odnosi sie takze do konieczności przeformulowania istniejącego od czasow greckiej πόλις paradygmatu kulturowego oraz strategii edukacyjnych i oddzialywan wychowawczych w kluczu edukacji do samotności). W związku z tym przedstawiam argumenty i racje obligujące do zastąpienia w dyskursie monoseologicznym (samotnościowym) narracji monolektycznej – dialektyczną. Zabieg ten, w zamyśle, pozwoli uzyskac mozliwie pelny, sensowny i bardziej adekwatny obraz obu tych, traktowanych jako komplementarne, fenomenow – samotności i wspolnotowości. Podstawową tezą, jakiej zamierzam bronic, jest stwierdzenie, ze samotnośc i wspolnotowośc, rozpatrywane w porządku dialektycznym, nie wystepują w separacji, lecz w istotny sposob wzajemnie sie warunkują i dopelniają. The impact of silence on human development over the course of a lifetime, and in relationships with others, is shown. The affirmative aspects of silence from an anthropological perspective, as a natural human need that contributes to the development of full humanity, is underlined. With this aim, the article clarifies the differenc-es between silence in the sense of quiet hush, and in the sense of keeping quiet; and between solitude and loneliness. The paper concentrates on the positive influence of silence on personality development and purposely omits the negative aspects of silence, since they do not serve the integral development of the person – this issue needs a separate discussion.","PeriodicalId":52686,"journal":{"name":"Paedagogia Christiana","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46211024","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
