This qualitative study aimed to explore how Filipino women with infertility gave meaning to their well-being and experiences in trying to conceive. In-depth interviews were conducted with eight women, while three psychologists and two reproductive doctors were consulted as additional data sources. Utilizing interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA), four themes were generated: walking trails of my reproductive story; hazards along the way: stressors of infertility; lost in the wilderness: toll on mental health and well-being; and looking back, I am in awe: journey of ascending from waiting and exploring. A simulacrum, \"T.T.C. Journey Map,\" was developed from these themes. The findings added to the limited literature on reproductive health and well-being, which can be used as a basis to create a psychosocial program to address fertility-related concerns and ensure well-being among women with infertility.","PeriodicalId":52652,"journal":{"name":"Philippine Social Science Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45232904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Online education paved the way for e-learning as the new normal mode of education. This study assessed the e-learning experiences of Senior High School students in a private academic institution that used a descriptive-correlational research design using mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient in data analysis. Three hundred sixteen students were surveyed. Results showed that perceived quality is very positive, and students were highly satisfied with their e-learning experience; however, this was not translated to the behavioral intention of recommending e-learning to other students. Results also showed that only the perceived quality significantly differs while the other dimensions do not vary. Finally, the results showed that e-Learning quality, level of satisfaction, behavioral intention, and grade expectation were all positively correlated. It can be concluded that students show a positive assessment of their e-learning experience. However, developing strategies that will enhance their educational learning experience is still recommended to fully embrace the new normal education.","PeriodicalId":52652,"journal":{"name":"Philippine Social Science Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45630831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using the case study approach, eight smallholder rice farmers from Lumban, Laguna, were purposely interviewed, and their narratives were thematically analyzed. Recurrent themes revealed that although the participants viewed risks induced by crises as \"normal\" aspects of rice farming systems, they primarily attributed the intensification of their vulnerability toward risks to the enduring systemic issues that have been affecting the dynamics of their rice farming operations even prior to, and during the occurrences of crisis events. Furthermore, the smallholder rice farmers were found to be resource-limited and socially disadvantaged due to long-standing concerns associated with the neoliberal policies imposed by the government. This article argues that increased public sector involvement is imperative rather than shifting support away from the farmers.","PeriodicalId":52652,"journal":{"name":"Philippine Social Science Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43266429","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to ascertain the impact of socio-economic profile and learning experiences that are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic concerning students' anxiety in learning statistics. The study used descriptive measures and econometric models to elucidate the anxiety level and its predictors of engineering students in a state university. Result reveals that the mean students' perception score for their anxiety level is 34.19 (SD=4.94) and is classified as \"anxious\". This implies that students are experiencing uncomfortable moments and distressing learning behavior due to the adverse impact of the pandemic on the educational system. The econometric model reveals that older and female students are more anxious about learning statistics online. Findings showed that the level of difficulty and less creativity in statistics lessons contributes to the anxiety level of students. In conclusion, instructors/professors must motivate their students and build their interest in learning statistics by giving them realistic and enjoyable activities that suit online education. Furthermore, instructors/professors must undergo training that develops and improves their teaching strategies in statistics to become competitive educators in online learning amid the pandemic.","PeriodicalId":52652,"journal":{"name":"Philippine Social Science Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45260612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, literature exploring their mental health in the Philippines is limited despite the alarming increase of HIV cases among young people. Hence, this descriptive phenomenological study purported to characterize the mental health of a select group of Filipino YLHIV. In-depth interviews with ten fully consented male participants aged 18-30 were conducted. Field texts were subjected to Collaizi's (1978) seven-step data analysis method. Interestingly, the Mental Health Tower of Youth Living with HIV emerged after thoroughly analyzing the data. This model typifies the mental health of YLHIV, which operates in an environment where both internal and external pressures make them experience (a) disruptive thoughts, (b) depressive mood, and (c) deteriorative behavior. The study has vividly described the instability of the YLHIV's mental health. Therefore, it is vital to develop a mental health program specifically designed for youth living with HIV.","PeriodicalId":52652,"journal":{"name":"Philippine Social Science Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42388746","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, examining the relationship between Emotional Quotient (EQ), profile, and faculty performance is important. The 175 faculty of a Higher Education Institution (HEI) in the Philippines were randomly selected. Employing Jerabek's (1996) Emotional Intelligence Test, EQ was found, on average, to indicate the faculty’s ability to recognize and deal with their own and others’ emotions effectively. Analysis of variance, regression, and Pearson Correlation revealed a significant positive correlation between teaching performance and their EQ, confirming that emotional intelligence influences teaching performance. Further, the combined impact of education and academic rank influences EQ, which may be the basis for further study. It is recommended that EQ be considered by HEIs when hiring faculty. Intelligence and emotional quotient are equally important in generating high performance. Therefore, the study may contribute to the significance of faculty's EQ on productivity.","PeriodicalId":52652,"journal":{"name":"Philippine Social Science Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49059532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to evaluate the different determinants that significantly influenced the engineering students' level of challenge in learning statistics in the new normal with the aid of a structured questionnaire by means of a Google form survey. Descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analysis were employed to extract meaningful information from the gathered data. Results showed that the students' perception score for the level of challenge in learning statistics is 7.37 (1.99), which can be interpreted as \"challenging.\" This implies that students face challenges as they learn statistics lessons amid the pandemic setup. The regression models constructed have revealed that \"age\", \"sex\", \"learning environment\", \"money spent on internet load\", \"physical health\", and \"creativity of statistics lessons\" are the significant causal factors of the level of challenge in learning statistics. Conclusively, statistics teachers must adjust and be considerate to their students in regard to their learning needs in line with the pandemic setup. The government also must provide a budget for seminars and training to college teachers concerning distance education. Furthermore, it is recommended that statistics teachers must create an interesting learning environment to fully catch students' attention despite challenges.","PeriodicalId":52652,"journal":{"name":"Philippine Social Science Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47166667","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To keep up with this shift, the current paper aimed to provide an assessment of the current research characteristics (i.e., research self-efficacy, research attitudes, and research interests) of faculty members in a private university in Bacoor, Cavite. Focusing on a relatively small scale of faculty members (n= 49), the investigation tried to compare the faculty’s demographic profile and research characteristics to further understand the overall university faculty research productivity. The findings revealed that they have an above-average confidence level with their research skills, have a somewhat positive view of research, and are likely to be interested in doing research. The study found no significant differences among the participants' research characteristics when grouped according to their gender and educational attainment using Mann-Whitney U tests and Kruskal-Wallis tests. However, there is a significant difference in the research attitudes among different age groups. Results have provided an objective assessment of the current research characteristics of university faculty members that may inform potential research training programs.","PeriodicalId":52652,"journal":{"name":"Philippine Social Science Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42011380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To answer my questions, I drew from my childhood experiences and discovered that \"modelling behavior” is an exemplary pedagogical tool for expedited but efficient choral rehearsal. This led to the development of the Guided Partnered Model (GPM), which has shaped the learners, choir members, and my music appreciation, developing self-esteem, self-worth, and musicianship. The ethnography method was used for data collection, and writing was assembled through hindsight. Furthermore, data analysis was gleaned from narrative inquiry, finding that the expressions of knowledge, skills, and values evidenced through stage performances have resulted in self-affirmation. This provided reflective opportunities to develop this autoethnography. This article could benefit choral conductors and music educators by enjoining them to refocus and reflect on their responsibilities and accountabilities that may enable them to discover innovative pedagogies in their classrooms. \u0000 ","PeriodicalId":52652,"journal":{"name":"Philippine Social Science Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47498902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
