This study aimed to determine the health risk related to water consumption collected and stored in traditional tanks. In total, 26 water samples from Traditional Rainwater Storage Tanks (TRST) and 11 sediment samples were collected from 13 sites belonging to four different provinces in the Souss Massa region, Morocco. The water samples were subjected to bacteriological and physicochemical analysis. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope analyses were performed to describe the different mineralogical and chemical properties of sediments. The results show that the bacteriological quality is not satisfactory to the required standards in 92% of the samples analyzed. This non-conformity is justified by the presence of microorganism’s indicators of fecal contamination: Total Coliforms (54%), Intestinal Enterococci (62%), Escherichia coli (31%), and Spores of anaerobic sulfite-reducing microor - ganisms (46%). The physicochemical analyses carried out on the water sampled show that concentrations below the standards recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Moroccan standard of the different parameters studied. The Water Quality Index (WQI) calculated for all TRST ranges from 10 to 15, indicating ex - cellent water quality. The analysis of the distribution of minerals in the various sediment samples taken shows the presence of several minerals in varying quantities without risk to human health. Clay minerals with tectosilicate are the most detected in the reservoirs. This study showed that the consumption of water stored in the TRST would be without risk to the health of the rural population if preventive maintenance and control measures were taken to improve their bacteriological quality.","PeriodicalId":52648,"journal":{"name":"Ecological Engineering Environmental Technology","volume":"200 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135062890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was conducted over a period of three cropping seasons in the Chaouia plain in Western Morocco, a Mediterranean semi-arid area with low rainfall. Trials were set up in a split-plot design with two factors: (1) management method (No-till vs. Conventional), and (2) practices (research recommended vs. Farmers’ local practices), with four replications and were carried out at four farmers’ fields (sites). Data collected included: stand density, canopy height, average number of tillers per plant, number of spikes per plant, biological yield, grain yield and harvest index. The results obtained show a significant effect of climatic years on the mea - sured parameters. No-till system significantly improved yield components, canopy height, biological yield, and grain yield, particularly in dry years. No-till as practiced by farmers (C2) improved biological and grain yields, respectively, by 18 and 42% compared with farmers’ current local practices (C1). These gains were, respectively, 83% and 142%, for the research recommended package under No-till, those of the research recommended pack - age under conventional management (without direct seeding), were 61% and 81% for the biological and the grain yields, respectively. The harvest index increased from 27% under the current conventional farmers’ local manage - ment (C1), to 31% with the research recommended package under the same management mode. Under No-till management, this index increased to 33% with local practices (C2) and 36% with the research recommended pack - ages. No-till system can be a adaptative and resilient practice for wheat cultivation in the low rain fall semi-arid areas impacted by climate change, but farmers should consider the adoption of the whole No-till system, rather than limiting themselves solely to the zero-till seeder technique.","PeriodicalId":52648,"journal":{"name":"Ecological Engineering Environmental Technology","volume":"191 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135062898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this research focuses on the synthesizing of organoclay by modifying kaolinite with cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide and applying it for the removal of (methyl-orange) dye from water by the mechanisms of adsorption. The effects of several parameters, mainly agitation time, water pH, adsorbent doses, and dye concentrations, on the adsorption process were optimised using the central composite design (CCD) method, which was performed using MINITAB package (version 17). Results showed that the dye was completely (100%) removed at pH of 4.0, adsorbent dose of 0.4 g, dye concentration of 50 mg/L, and agitation speed of 160 rpm. In addition, it was found that Freundlich and Sips isotherms were the best models to track lab data. Moreover, the Pseudo second order method was found to be more convenient compared to other models for studying kinetics of the sorp - tion mechanism. For column testing, an appropriate hydraulic conductivity and reactivity were obtained by combin - ing modificatory kaolinite and glass waste with weight proportions of 50:50. Thus, empirical simulations such as those in the kinetic model of Clark have provided satisfactory consent for using the simulated methyl orange.","PeriodicalId":52648,"journal":{"name":"Ecological Engineering Environmental Technology","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135111754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigates the effects of pore water’s pH on the behavior of high plasticity silt. Samples with varied pore fluid pH were tested for Atterberg limits, unconfined compressive strength on the 9 th , 18 th , and 27 th curing days. Particle size distribution and zeta potential were assessed on the 27 th day on strength tested samples. The test showed that the soil properties change with the pH of the pore fluid and the days the sam - ple were cured for. The particle size distribution revealed that higher silt and clay fractions were present in acidic and alkaline conditions respectively. Liquid limit varied irregularly with different pH conditions. On all test days, the plastic limit increased under acidic and alkaline conditions compared to neutral conditions. The Unconfined compressive strength and zeta potential were observed to be low in the acidic and alkaline conditions compared to the neutral condition. The result infers that the dissolution of cementitious elements in acidic and alkaline conditions reduces the long-term strength of the soil. These findings encourage geotechnical engineers to evaluate the pH characteristics of the pore fluids during geotechnical analysis.","PeriodicalId":52648,"journal":{"name":"Ecological Engineering Environmental Technology","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135111760","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objec - tive of this study is to shed light on how mining impacts the region of Beni Tajjit’s groundwater resources, which are used for irrigation and watering, which includes the Bou Dhar mining district, known for its vast lead and zinc sulfide deposits. The oxidation of sulfide-rich mine tailings generates acid water loaded with sulfates, creating acid mine drainage (AMD), which hurts aquatic ecosystems and the environment through trace metals elements (TME). Hence the need to assess the possible contamination of aquifers by metallic pollutants. This work can help water managers make appropriate decisions for controlling the quality of the groundwater in the Beni Tajjit area. During this study, we adopted a method: the Water Quality Index (WQI), designed to indicate the overall level of water quality by aggregating various weighted measurements. Five samples representing water sources around the mine tailings were taken and analyzed. Their values of dissolved oxygen, electrical conductivity and pH were measured on-site. The results allow us to classify the water into good and bad categories. They showed that the TME values were practically lower than the maximum permitted level according to WHO norms and Moroccan irrigation standards. The main reason for this may be due to the carbonate geological context of the site, which buffers acidity and thus forms a chemical barrier against the transfer of TME to the aquifer. The high chlorine levels appear due to geochemical background or anthropogenies contaminations. The sulfate values recorded are related to the leaching of sulfide minerals from mine tailings.","PeriodicalId":52648,"journal":{"name":"Ecological Engineering Environmental Technology","volume":"6 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135111763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several strategies must be implemented to mitigate the environmental impact caused by waste materials, such as to rice husks ash, plastic, and other materials. Low-density polyethylene is widely recognized in academic circles for its distinctive property of having a low melting point and demonstrating inferior thermal stability. However, the utilization of RHA has promise for augmenting the thermal LDPE. The inclusion of silica inside rice husk ash functions as a flame retardant, hence augmenting the material’s capacity to resist combustion and thermal degradation. The objective of this study is to utilization of eco-friendly RHA waste as re-inforcement in LDPE thermoplastics. RHA is produced by the coprecipitation process. Rheomixer is used to make thermoplastic composites by incorporate RHA into LDPE 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 wt.%. The micrograph of the failure surface of the composite material consisting of LDPE filled with reactive hot-melt adhesive RHA particles reveals significant variations in particle sizes. In adittion XRD graph showed a decrease in intensity when 6% wt and 8% wt RHA were added. The results of thermal analysis with DSC showed an increase in the melting point of the sample with RHA reinforcement from 108.96–109.21 o C and 482.47–500.09 o C. The incorporation of RHA as a reinforcement in LDPE holds promise for its utilization as a material possessing favorable thermal characteristics suitable for industrial applications such as pipes and protective coatings, which required enhanced thermal resistance. The utilization of rice husk ash (RHA) waste imposes both environmental and economic impacts. RHA has the potential to reduce environmental pollution caused by waste and decrease the costs involved in material production.","PeriodicalId":52648,"journal":{"name":"Ecological Engineering Environmental Technology","volume":"5 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135111764","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
