The purpose of this study is to examine IL-17A (rs2275913) G/A and IL-21 (rs4833837) C/T gene polymorphism association in Iraqi patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The current study includes 120 subjects classified into two main groups: 60 RA patients and 60 healthy controls. Tetra ARMS-PCR and Allele-specific PCR were used for the detection of IL-17A and IL-21 gene polymorphisms respectively. Genotype and allele frequency results of IL17 rs2275913 G/A and IL-21 rs4833837 C/T gene polymorphisms were analyzed under codominant, dominant, recessive, and additive models. IL17A (rs2275913) G/A under codominant pattern with heterozygous genotype (G/A) and dominant pattern, those of the GA+AA genotypes significantly higher in RA patients with respect to those of the control group (OR:3.3, CI 95%: ( 1.11 to 9.96), P< 0.03) and (OR: 3.35, CI 95%: ( 1.12 to 9.99), P< 0.03) respectively. In addition, this genetic polymorphism doesn’t appear significant variation in other inheritance models. The allele (A) frequency was observed to be higher in RA patients (49%) opposite the allele (G) frequency observed to be higher in control (59%) without significant variation between them, On the other hand, IL-21 rs4833837 C/T genotyping and allele frequencies results revealed no significant variation between the rheumatoid arthritis patients in comparison with the control groups.","PeriodicalId":52600,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences C Physiology and Molecular Biology","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135302076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sample collection began from September 2022 to January 2023, during which 300 samples were isolated from patients, including wound swabs, medial urine samples, semen, upper vaginal swabs, and burn swabs. The samples were selected from the patients of Al-Furat Al-Awsat and Al-Najaf Teaching Hospitals in Al-Najaf Governorate in the Guidance Department, and the included age groups ranged from (1-60) years. After diagnosing the samples by Gram stain, catalase test, and Coagulase test and cultures on a mannitol agar, the diagnosis was confirmed by the Vitek device. DNA was extracted by extraction kit. In the next stage, virulence genes were detected by PCR technique, and the result was PVL (20%), while Nuc was (90%), Sea was (63.3%), and finally, icaA was (36.6%). Correlations of virulence genes were also made, namely between age, sex and gene coexistence in the isolates, with Sea and Nuc being the most prevalent, followed by Sea with icaA.","PeriodicalId":52600,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences C Physiology and Molecular Biology","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134945368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These molecules have played a key role in the growth of malignant tumour of ovary including cellular proliferation and metastasis. We carried out a meta-analysis of previously published miRNA expression datasets (two human datasets GSE83693 and GSE119055) and one mouse GSE98391 to identify the downregulated miRNA and its target genes with biological processes and pathways. Meta-analysis of miRNA datasets showed that miR-378a-3p, miR-378a -5p and miR-378c are commonly downregulated miRNAs among the three databases in cancerous samples in comparison to normal samples. A total of 405 common gene targets for miR-378a-3p, -5p and miR-378c were identified using miRWALK. Enrichment analysis revealed that miRNAs target genes were predominantly linked to protein binding as well as in Ras signalling pathways. In addition, multiple hub miRNA target genes in the PPI network provided poor prognosis for the patients with OC including FLT1, its level was closely relevant to ovarian cancer. Overall, these investigations exhibited that the defined miRNAs and their target genes could be exploited as biomarkers to identify ovarian malignancies and achieve an early effective therapy.","PeriodicalId":52600,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences C Physiology and Molecular Biology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135966771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method is dependent on the reduction of Cu 2+ into Cu 1+ by the action of antioxidants that are existing in the sample and chelating factor like neocuproine that produced complex colors. The spectrophotometry method was utilized to measure the absorbance of TAC at 450 nm in patients with diabetic nephropathy and control, also measured of TAC by using a innovative microfluidic system that contain a novel double split ring resonator sensor, after that compare outcomes between both techniques that indicated no significance differences in result of TAC after measured by spectrophotometer and new microfluidic sensor.","PeriodicalId":52600,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences C Physiology and Molecular Biology","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136237964","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ninety serum samples were taken from women; 30 samples were taken from healthy women (control group-C) without a history of BC, and 60 samples were divided into two groups: 30 untreated BC patients as first group-G1, and 30 post-treatment as the second group-G2. The study includes the determination of the level of serum LPA, total cholesterol-TC, triglycerides-TG, high-density lipoprotein-HDL, low-density lipoprotein-LDL and very low-density lipoprotein-VLDL. The results indicate that the value of body mass index-BMI was significantly higher in G1 as compared with G2 and the control group. The level of LPA and HDL was significantly elevated in the patients' group, while the levels of serum TC, TG, LDL, VLDL and TC/HDL ratio were significantly decreased in the patients' groups(G1 and G2) as compared with C. From the results of the current study, we can conclude that LPA plays an important role in the development of BC in new diagnostic cases or after treatment, while the correlation between lipids and breast cancer is obscure and needs more studies.","PeriodicalId":52600,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences C Physiology and Molecular Biology","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135485645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research was done in order to detecte the frequency of carbapenememase genes in A. baumannii isolated from Surgical Wards and Intensive Care Units (ICUs) in Minia, Egypt by phenotypic and genotypic methods. Methods: 310 patients who were undergoing surgery and receiving care in ICUs participated in the current study between August 2017 and October 2020. The isolates were obtained from a variety of clinical samples, including sputum, bronchial lavage, Pus and wound fluid. All clinical samples have been collected under complete aseptic conditions. A. baumannii isolates were identified by standard microbiological tests. The resistance patterns of the obtained isolates were detected by the disc diffusion method. Production of carbapenem-resistant genes was determined by phenotypic tests the Modified Hodge Test (MHT) and confirmed by the modified carbapenem inactivation method (mCIM). Various carbapenem-resistant genes were detected by PCR. Results :Out of 310 samples, Twenty-Five 25 (8%) isolates of A. baumannii were obtained. Antibiotic and sensitivity tests detect that 16(64%) and 12(48%) of A.baumannii isolates were resistant to meropenem and imipenem respectively. Out of the Carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii (CRAB): 9(56%) were (MHT) positive, and 13 (81%) were (mCIM) positive. Regarding resistance genes, bla OXA-23like and bla OXA-51like were detected in 94% and 100% of CRAB isolates respectively, while bla OXA-24like , bla oxa-48like , bla oxa-58like and bla NDM were not detected in CRAB isolates.","PeriodicalId":52600,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences C Physiology and Molecular Biology","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135786508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
