In Nigeria, issues such as poor academic performance of students, low quality of graduates, inadequate funding, lack of equipped laboratory and workshops, low quantity, quality, and commitment of teachers, inappropriate curriculum are prevalent in Integrated Science education provision. To improve the state of science and technology from its status quo and reposition it for the 21st century, adequate funding, provision and furnishing of laboratory and workshop, provision of scholarships and bursaries for students, regular review of science and technology curriculum, provisions of ICT in teaching and learning, recruitment of more qualified science and technology teachers, as well as motivation of science and technology teachers are recommended.","PeriodicalId":52277,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Evaluation and Research in Education","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135199566","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The population of the study consists of all teachers in the selected nine secondary schools in the Northeast. The sample of the study was drawn from three states out of the six states that constitute the northeast. They include Bauchi, Borno, and Adamawa states. The data was collected using a structured questionnaire administered to teachers. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques and correlation analysis. Some of the major findings are; there is limited availability of instructional materials for teachers’ use in the school and the ones that are available do not meet the curriculum specifications. The findings also reveal that, there is adequate workshop/equipment for the teaching of Vocational and Technical subjects in secondary schools but inadequate facilities in the laboratory. Some recommendations were made; government should work at setting aside funds for education especially for the procurement of instructional materials. The teachers should also strive at developing skills and abilities to use the instructional material to improve their teaching","PeriodicalId":52277,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Evaluation and Research in Education","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135243443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The subject matter of the write – up largely centers on the explored and examined obstacles militating against Girl-Child Education with reference to its situation in some Northern states in the 21stCentury.Both oral, published and unpublished sources were used in conducting the study. However, among the major causes of low level of enrolment and other impediments include, socio-economic, political and religious factors such as evolution of religious, economic and commercial ideologies of kidnapping, bargaining, ransom, activities of insurgencies, bandits, moral decadence, poverty, unemployment, failure of the parents and governments to reciprocate the gestures and unfortunate state of the parents and the Nigerian economies. The study found that it is very disheartening to highlight that fifteen Northern states are below average regarding the ratio of their girls in schools. The states are: Bauchi, Katsina, Benue, Jigawa, Adamawa, Niger, Sokoto and others, However, the study further shows that Katsina, Sokoto and Zamafara are as 23.6% of female enrolment. This study was found to be of importance in this era of universal education, especially now that Nigeria needs motivated staff if performance is to be enhanced at this level. The sample of the study was constituted by fifty teachers of diversified societal status, through a 5 point- Likert scale modified survey where each teacher self-rated himself, while their performance was assessed by the school principal on a scale that varied from 0 as a minimum to a 50 as maximum. The researchers have used the frequency, percent, average and the correlation coefficient. Several factors were found to influence the level of teacher motivation. The factors included: level of training, job security, student performance, promotions among others. The researcher also found that in the highly performing schools, all the teachers including those hired by the Board of Management were trained while the schools with low performance had hired some teachers without training. Results have revealed that teachers of the sample lack of motivation and that it is correlated with their performance. The study adopted Ex Post Facto research design which was conducted the entire North – Eastern States in Nigeria. A total of 993 mathematics and science teachers was considered as the population of the study. The study further employed a non-probability purposive sampling where the researchers select 103 mathematics and science teachers who have attended the SMASE training only. The study was guided by two (2) research questions and one (1) null hypothesis where questionnaire served as an instrument for data collection. The result revealed that when teachers go through the SMASE training there would be a gradual change and finally will lead to appreciating the role of SMASE training, thereby leading to a significant improvement in their teaching and learning process which have been seen not only their students’ participation in class but also on their performance especially at the JSCE examinations. It therefore recommended that teachers should be encouraged to adopt ASEI/PDSI as an approach to SMASE, school based training (SBT) should be encourage and to become a routine in every school so that ASEI/PDSI principles will be easily assimilated, Government and school authorities should device a means of compulsory adoption and implementation of ASEI/PDSI principles and its principles in all teaching and learning","PeriodicalId":52277,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Evaluation and Research in Education","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135199713","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
