Drugs and specifically the use of alcohol and cannabis, can influence sexual experience. However, there has been little research and to date none has been carried out in Spain that compares the effect of alcohol and cannabis consumption in the same people on their sexual experience. Therefore, the objective of the study was to analyze and compare the effect of alcohol and cannabis in the same people on their sexual experience. The sample consisted of 483 people who had ever consumed alcohol and cannabis. Participants answered an online questionnaire about alcohol and cannabis use and sexual experience. The results show that despite the fact that when people consume alcohol, they feel more attractive, they feel more attraction towards other people, they are more extroverted, their desire increases and they have longer sexual relations than when they consume cannabis, people who frequently consume when consume cannabis, they have more sensitivity and they are more sexually satisfied than when they consume alcohol. Regarding the sexual experience, although they prefer not to use drugs when they have sex, people who frequently consume prefer to consume more cannabis than alcohol. Therefore, it is concluded that, although alcohol facilitates the sexual encounter, with cannabis people feel more sexually satisfied.
","PeriodicalId":519907,"journal":{"name":"Revista internacional de andrologia","volume":"22 3","pages":"40-47"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142485318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in patients with corporal fibrosis (CF), the procedure presents significant challenges and higher complication risks. This narrative review explores the crucial role of imaging techniques, such as ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging, in preoperative planning for PPI in patients with CF. Through a comprehensive literature search, we analyzed studies focusing on the efficacy of these imaging modalities in assessing fibrosis severity and guiding surgical strategies. Our findings highlight that advanced imaging provides essential insights into fibrosis extent, thereby optimizing surgical outcomes and reducing potential complications. The review underscores the importance of meticulous preoperative imaging in improving patient management and surgical precision in this complex clinical scenario.
","PeriodicalId":519907,"journal":{"name":"Revista internacional de andrologia","volume":"22 3","pages":"1-8"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142485319","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study examined the gonadoprotective effect of trans-Anethole in testicular I/R injury. Twenty-eight male rats were divided into four groups. Rats in the I/R, I/R + t100, I/R + t200 groups underwent bilateral testicular I/R injury. The I/R + t100 and I/R + t200 groups received 100 or 200 mg/kg trans-Anethole at the 2nd hour of ischemia. Microscopic evaluations demonstrated that testicular I/R injury leads to severe testicular degeneration. Tissue oxidative stress, pro-apoptotic Bcl-2 associated X (Bax) and Caspase 3, pro-inflammatory Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) and Interleukin 6 (IL-6) cytokines levels were significantly (p < 0.05) upregulated when compared to the Control group. Additionally, transcription factors Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) and Nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) levels increased significantly (p < 0.05) compared to the Control group. Tissue disrupted parameters in the I/R + t200 group were significantly different (p < 0.05) from the I/R group, contrasting with the slight improvement in the I/R + t100 group. The STAT3 and NF-κB expression levels in the I/R + t200 group were significantly suppressed (p < 0.05) compared to the I/R group. In conclusion, our study indicates that trans-Anethole could enhance gonadoprotective activity in testicular I/R injury, potentially involving transcription factors STAT3 and NF-κB. This study aimed to construct an integrative prediction model for andrologists to assess the preoperative success retrieval rate. A total of 217 patients diagnosed with non-obstructive azoospermia at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University were included, in whom sperm was successfully retrieved in 71 patients. We retrospectively analyzed their clinical characteristics and pathological features. Single factor analysis and logistic regression analysis were utilized to validate the predictive performance, and the area under the curve (AUC) analysis was conducted to further assess the clinical diagnostic value of the model. The results showed that a history of Klinefelter syndrome or cryptorchidism, FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) levels, and testicular pathology contributed differently to the nomogram prediction model. Relatively normal FSH levels, a history of Klinefelter syndrome or cryptorchidism, and favorable testicular pathological types were assigned higher scores, with higher scores often accompanying a preferable success rate of sperm retrieval. The integrated model showed good prediction performance, with an AUC (Area Under the Curve) of 0.781 (95% CI (confidence interval) 0.713-0.849). Overall, our integrative model demonstrates excellent prediction performance and may assist andrologists in balancing the benefits of surgery preoperatively.
","PeriodicalId":519907,"journal":{"name":"Revista internacional de andrologia","volume":"22 3","pages":"48-56"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142485210","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Western medicine are currently the preferred treatment options for PE. When treating PE with both traditional Chinese and Western medicine, two sets of treatment plans are briefly introduced: internal treatment and external treatment. In the internal treatment method, the popular TCM formulas in recent years were introduced, their therapeutic effects and principles on PE were described, and the results of analyzing the effective ingredients of TCM monomers from the perspective of molecular biology in recent years were also presented. Then the mechanism of their treatment of PE was explained and their efficacy and safety was compared with Western medicine in treating PE; in terms of external treatment, the current mainstream treatment schemes were introduced, such as acupuncture and moxibustion, liquid medicine external application, massage desensitization and behavioral psychotherapy, and their advantages and disadvantages were elaborated. Finally, the theoretical treatment of PE was put into practice through rational criticism and analysis to improve men's physical health and promote the development of the TCM culture.
","PeriodicalId":519907,"journal":{"name":"Revista internacional de andrologia","volume":"22 3","pages":"24-31"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142485316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the field of human reproduction specifically, there are growth factors (GFs) present in PRP that have shown an impact on sperm quality and function. The main objective of this article is to conduct a literature review on the use of PRP for the treatment of male infertility. To achieve this, a bibliographic search of articles and reviews in scientific journals about the possible use of PRP for the treatment of male factor published between 2018 and 2023 has been carried out. Nine publications were identified, proposing the application of PRP in the following areas: sperm cryopreservation, oxidative stress, culture of spermatogonial stem cells, and secretory azoospermia. According to the literature, supplementing the cryopreservation medium with PRP improves sperm parameters, and samples incubated with PRP show an increase in their antioxidant capacity. Finally, PRP can increase the proliferation and vitality of spermatogonial stem cells and sperm recovery in cases of non-obstructive azoospermia. PRP shows therapeutic potential in various aspects of the male factor. A total of 1703 males and 139 female partners participated in this study. All the participants completed a questionnaire and the flaccid and stretched penis length and girth were recorded. The results showed that the average flaccid penis length was 8.44 ± 2.28 cm and 12.27 ± 2.91 cm stretched, with girth of 8.23 ± 2.07 cm. Regarding the importance of penis size for a satisfying sexual experience, 18.5% of men thought penis length mattered, 9.9% considered thickness important, and 71.6% thought both were significant. A majority of participants, 67.8% of males and 76% of females, expressed that erect penis length was crucial for sexual pleasure. For a healthy sexual intercourse, 19.4% of the female partners emphasized the significance of penis length, 23.7% highlighted thickness, and 56.8% emphasized both factors for a fulfilling sexual relationship.
