Mutations in genes encoding SDH are responsible for a predisposition to pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas, and more rarely, to gastrointestinal stromal tumors or renal cell carcinomas. A decrease in SDH activity, not explained by genetics, has also been observed in more common cancers. One of the consequences of the inactivation of SDH is the excessive production of its substrate, succinate, which acts as an oncometabolite by promoting a pseudohypoxic status and an extensive epigenetic rearrangement. Understanding SDH-related oncogenesis now makes it possible to develop innovative diagnostic methods and to consider targeted therapies for the management of affected patients.</p>","PeriodicalId":519512,"journal":{"name":"Medecine sciences : M/S","volume":"38 3","pages":"255-262"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"40326062","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ils ont sélectionné une quinzaine d’articles scientifiques récents dans le domaine de la signalisation cellulaire, présentant des résultats originaux, via des approches expérimentales variées, sur des thèmes allant des relations hôte-pathogène aux innovations thérapeutiques, en passant par la signalisation hépatique et le métabolisme. Après un travail préparatoire réalisé avec l’équipe pédagogique, les étudiants, organisés en binômes, ont ensuite rédigé, guidés par des chercheurs, une Nouvelle soulignant les résultats majeurs et l’originalité de l’article étudié. Ils ont beaucoup apprécié cette initiation à l’écriture d’articles scientifiques et, comme vous pourrez le lire, se sont investis dans ce travail avec enthousiasme ! Deux de ces Nouvelles sont publiées dans ce numéro, les autres le seront dans des prochains numéros.","PeriodicalId":519512,"journal":{"name":"Medecine sciences : M/S","volume":"38 3","pages":"321-324"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"40324844","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, difficulties in scheduling appointments, women's lack of information about contraceptive methods, and the limited availability of different methods all contribute to high rates of unintended pregnancies. The rate of contraceptive use by Brazilian women aged 18 to 49 is approximately 62%; poorer parts of the country and low levels of education are among the main factors associated with lower rates of contraceptive method use. There are therefore challenges to be taken up to minimize the rates of unwanted pregnancies, which are still too high, such as better distribution, better offer of different contraceptive methods for all regions of the country and better training of professionals involved in women's health care.</p>","PeriodicalId":519512,"journal":{"name":"Medecine sciences : M/S","volume":"38 3","pages":"280-287"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"40326962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

CH is due to thyroid development or thyroid function defects (primary) or may be of hypothalamic-pituitary origin (central). Primary CH is caused essentially by abnormal thyroid gland morphogenesis (thyroid dysgenesis, TD) or defective thyroid hormone synthesis (dyshormonogenesis, DH). DH accounts for about 35% of CH and a genetic cause is identified in 50% of patients. However, TD accounts for about 65% of CH, and a genetic cause is identified in less than 5% of patients. The pathogenesis of CH is largely unknown and may include the contribution of individual and environmental factors. During the last years, detailed phenotypic description of patients, next-generation sequence technologies and use of animal models allowed the discovery of novel candidate genes in thyroid development and function. We provide an overview of recent genetic causes of primary and central CH. In addition, mode of inheritance and the oligogenic model of CH are discussed.</p>","PeriodicalId":519512,"journal":{"name":"Medecine sciences : M/S","volume":"38 3","pages":"263-273"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"40326958","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
