The anisotropic deformation behaviour is mainly due to the formation of band-like macrozone and texture during forging, which can be effectively weakened by solution + aging treatment. Both the microstructure and texture of the heat treated samples are favourable for the lower strength, higher ductility and impact toughness of axis direction (AD) samples than circumferential direction (CD) ones. Besides, the CD impact samples have stronger anisotropy than AD samples. The delamination along different directions happens in the impact fracture surface of CD samples.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"97 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140968119","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, 2Cr13 stainless steel was subjected to the quenching and tempering treatment. The electrochemical machining approach was adopted for surface treatment. The results showed that the quenching and tempering treatment improved the Vickers microhardness of 2Cr13 stainless steel. The enhancement of microhardness was facilitated by the formation of tempered sorbite and grain refinement. Electrochemical machining provided high quality surfaces. The heat-treated workpice had more advantages in electrochemical machining efficiency. The polarization curves proved a downward shift of the self-corrosion potential for the heat-treated 2Cr13 stainless steel, which was strongly related to the electrochemical behavior. A mechanism model for promoting anode electrochemical dissolution was proposed.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"26 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140974369","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To improve the performance of welded joints, a novel current waveform, alternating current/direct current (AC/DC) mixed current waveform which was named Mix-TIG was proposed. In Mix-TIG, the oxide film on the weld surface is broken up by the cathodic crushing effect. Cyclic variations of the current waveform produce stronger arc stirring and more intense oscillations in the molten pool which results in grain refinement. In addition, the lower temperature gradient in the melt pool due to the smaller heat input in Mix-TIG also contributes to grain refinement. The elongation and microhardness of the Mix-TIG were increased.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"51 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140972555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results showed that direct squeeze casting can further refine the grain and θ-Al2Cu phase, which is favourable to the uniform distribution of the θ-Al2Cu phase. The fluffy θ-Al2Cu/α-Al interface was caused by the severe pressure loss during the indirect squeeze casting process. The strength and elongation of direct squeeze casting alloy are 508 MPa and 18.5%, which are 40.3% and 123% higher than those of the alloys of indirect squeeze casting. The in situ tensile experiments revealed that the crack initiation mechanism of the indirect squeeze casting alloy is the debonding of the θ-Al2Cu phase at the grain boundaries.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":" 48","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141000166","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After PWHT, the amount of nickel for the weld region increases resulting in the generation of austenite and consequently, helping to obtain a favourable ferrite-to-austenite ratio. Comparing the experimental outcomes, it is noticed that the pits initiate and propagate in HAZ indicating this area is more susceptible to corrosion resistance compared to the fusion zone. The pitting resistance equivalent number alone is not sufficient reason to study the complex corrosion phenomenon, and the influence of other parameters namely microstructural evolution on the breakdown of passivity by pitting and the existence of intermetallic phases should be determined together.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":" 19","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141000830","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study describes the bulk synthesis of stannate-based pyrochlore compounds, specifically erbium tin oxide (Er2Sn2O7) and yttrium tin oxide (Y2Sn2O7). These synthesized pyrochlore oxides and commercially available yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) were coated onto nickel super alloy. The coated specimens were subjected to thermal oxidation kinetics studies at 900 ± 5°C for 200 h, and alterations in physico-chemical characteristics, modifications in surface morphology, and variations in the composition of thermal barrier coating (TBCs) before and after exposure to oxidation conditions were evaluated. Oxidation kinetics results demonstrate that Er2Sn2O7 pyrochlore oxide has better performance than other Y2Sn2O7 and commercial YSZ TBC materials in high-temperature thermal barrier systems.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"33 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141021641","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
