The results indicate that the in-situ hybrid Al3Ni + Al2O3 particles can markedly improve wear performance of composites. The increase of wear resistance with an increase in NiO content at room temperature can be attributed to high hardness offered by high volume fraction of hard Al3Ni and Al2O3 particles. While, at 200 °C, the increase in wear resistance of composites with higher NiO contents can be attributed to the high thermal stability of composites. With the increase of NiO content from 8% to 15%, the wear mode of composites also is discussed at room temperature and 200 °C.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139535392","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The studied Fe–Mn–Ni–Al–C and Fe–Mn–Ni–Co–Al–C alloys were treated thermally and mechanically. These alloys were studied by X-ray diffractometry and electron microscopy, while mechanical properties were tested by mechanical loading. A dual-phase cF4 and cP2 structure was formed. The alloys showed high-hardness values and high-strain hardening ability but when hot rolled exhibited precipitation of carbides. These alloys are considered to be model alloys for the development of future high-entropy alloys based on industrial steels.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"94 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139535549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Optimisation of process parameters was conducted through a combination of numerical simulations and technological experiments. The welding speed has a significant effect on the width and height of the cladding layer and the welding current mainly affected the penetration. A proper decrease of welding speed with raising heat input was conductive to the decrease of coating residual stress levels and dilution rates, which promoted the solid solution of corrosion resistant elements (Mo and Nb) and favoured the improvement of coating corrosion resistance. The cladding quality and efficiency could be improved by parameter optimisations through the combination of numerical and technological methods.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"92 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139535565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The tests were carried out at different loads: 2, 7, 12 and 15 N. The results show that the wear rate is higher when the isothermal transformation temperature and load increases. Also, at low loads adhesion, oxidation and abrasion are the main wearing mechanisms, while at high loads contact fatigue becomes dominant. The results are related to the microstructural differences produced by the change in the isothermal temperature of the heat treatment.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"85 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139535456","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Transmission electron microscope (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirm successful graphene synthesis from RHA, polymer crystallinity change and GN/Ti particle dispersion. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) assess nanocomposites, revealing enhanced properties with graphene. Suitability for supercapacitor electrodes increases proportionally with higher graphene percentages in CV tests. At a 20-mV/s scan rate, the specific capacitance for P–25 wt-%G sees an impressive 614% increase, underscoring significant enhancement in polyester matrix properties.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"58 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139535864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The kinetics of austenite to martensite transformation influence the deformation behaviour of austenitic stainless steels but is often neglected by the materials community. In this paper, after an initial discussion on thermodynamics and mechanism, the importance of deformation-induced transformation kinetics is briefly outlined and the influence of various parameters like grain size, deformation temperature, strain rate, stress state and prior austenite deformation on the transformation kinetics is critically assessed. Variation of transformation kinetics with various parameters has been identified and justified. These variations could act as a ready reference for designing austenitic stainless steels with the desired set of mechanical properties and deformation behaviour. Further in this paper, selected models that can predict the transformation kinetics are reviewed and compared. In the end, research fronts related to transformation kinetics that can be further explored have been identified.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"72 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139535378","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The basic mechanism in SSW is described by the ‘film theory’, where superficial oxide layers/cover layers of metals fracture when submitted to elongations, the material on both sides of the sheets to be joined are extruded through these fractures and opposing virgin surfaces touch and weld. Present results reveal new aspects of these phenomena: the presence of ‘mountain ridges’ on delaminated surfaces after ARB, bonding regions along the rolling direction and the flattening of the geometric characteristics of delaminated surfaces as the number of ARB passes rises. A model is proposed for the development of the bonds along the rolling direction.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"96 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139535546","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results show that magnetic field ageing treatment can not only refines α-Al grains and promotes Si particle precipitation, but also improves the size and morphology of eutectic Si. The optimal α-Al grain refinement post-magnetic field treatment is observed at an ageing temperature of 195 °C. Meanwhile, the ultimate tensile strength and yield strength values were recorded at 345 and 283 MPa, respectively. The magnetic field ageing treatment exerts a dual influence: it accelerates atom diffusion, fostering the precipitation of reinforcing phases and simultaneously refines alloy grains, increasing the grain boundaries.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"31 24","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139458462","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the early stage of ultrasonic cavitation treatment, grains of Mn–Cu alloy are refined, nanocrystals and amorphous bands are produced. As the ultrasonic cavitation treatment proceeds, the face-centered cubic structure is transformed into the body-centered tetragonal structure, and the martensitic phase transformation arises. The transformation is accompanied by plastic deformation and the formation of dislocations. The generation of martensite is caused by the stress and strain. Due to grain refinement, dislocations, and generation of martensite, the surface hardness of Mn–Cu alloy is enhanced, and the friction coefficient decreases. The resistance to wear is thereby improved.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"13 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139535391","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
